Oh I agree don't get me wrong. Plus Gareth will help him settle I'm sure. I just hope our fanbase gives him a chance to settle before writing him off as is so often the case.

Nah, that won’t happen. The only way that will happen is if we expect way to much to soon from a kid coming to a new country he has no experience of and we don’t do that.

I mean, look at Ndombele, we’ve afforded him a whole season and no one has got on his back at all.

What does the buy back clause exactly mean? is it basically a release clause only applicable for madrid and we are forced to sell him back ? Or can the player reject the return and choose to stay

From Romano:
- Tottenham are going to pay €30m to Real Madrid. Spurs board will accept both clauses asked by Real: ‘buy back clause’ [around €40/45m] and ‘pre-emption clause’ [if any club will made a bid for Reguilon on next years, Tottenham must call Real Madrid and they can match the bid]. ??

Player can reject the offer

It means Real Madrid can buy him back.

I think that if it wasn’t for the apparent ‘conditioning’ and ‘attitude’ issues then I think that less people would be complaining about Ndombele.

Player can reject and choose to stay, but I imagine part of why he's joining us is that his intention is to develop and do well enough with us to rejoin Madrid at some point in the future. Of course he may change his mind at some point, but if not then hey ho, we get a good player for a few years and spin an easy profit on him while Cirkin and Sessegnon have time to develop themselves.

Well let’s hope that the kid sprints non stop for 90 mins every game.

Pretty meaningless buy back clause really, and if anything would ward off future potential buyers anyway?

Thrilled by is signing. Seen loads of talk about us needing a creative midfielder but honestly think our problems aren't that, they are due to absolutely pedestrian, non pro active full back play, that makes it so easy to defend against us ( i.e teams know we won't get behind them down the flanks so it's easy to park bodies in middle, hence people think we need someone able to 'unlock' things through the middle). With Doherty and now this bloke, suddenly the pitch opens up, there is more space and good, creative players like Gio and Dele (or Tanguy) can now feed Son, Kane (Bale!) easier.

Think this is a bit of a master stroke really. The buy back protects us as much as it does Real Madrid. If Real Madrid do trigger it, it would mean he’s been outstanding for us. That would leave us with £40m, roughly £12m profit from signing him, and ready made replacements in Sess, if not Cirkin.

Given Real Madrid have Marcelo and Mendy as their left backs, I can’t see them activating it in the next two years before it expires.

Apologies if this is a stupid question. If this buyback clause is active for the next 2 years, can Madrid in, say 3 weeks, decide to get him back and we can't stop them??
