For all those concerned about his injuries, I am sure Jose, Levy and the medical team will do due diligence where his medical and fitness is concerned before pen is put to paper.

Gareth bale at 70% match fitness would still be good enough to get games and still look a class above any of our other midfielders
Not to mention the fear factor defenders will have playing against him, even if he's not fully fit. I doubt we get that with Lucas, Bergwijn or Sissoko!

I think a lot of the time at Real Madrid he wasn’t “really” injured. He just didn’t want to play for them

Ive always been sceptical about some of his injuries at Madrid and have posted about it before. He hasn’t been wanted there for a while, why would he have put himself through playing for a club at 70 or 80% fitness like lots of players do every week for their clubs? There was no motivation for him to do that and suffer pain for his team when the manager didn’t really want him and the fans have been so thankless. I firmly believe it wI’ll be different here unless he gets a bad muscle injury, (which we do seem to get a lot of strangely) as the situation will be the complete opposite for him. We only need to look at Robben as a similar example. A player famed for not wanting to play throughout his career unless 100% fit turned out plenty for Munich at the end of his career and was hugely influential for them (despite some injury periods). Bale could have a similar impact for us. Unplayable on his day, which I expect to be more regular than not.

I wonder if, had we had the same access to information every step of the way, be it itk, online press, social media, YouTube videos etc, we’d have been this excited about the returns of Sheringham in 2001 or Klinsmann halfway through 97/98.

Klinsmann maybe not (though we were fighting relegation and there was a lot of unfinished business), but Sheringham at that point was far and away the player who’d done most for us in the PL, had left under a bit of a cloud to go win things 4 years earlier, and had just come off winning player of the year. A bit older yes but still a Rolls Royce of a player.
