Might have decided to take the Chelsea approach. Capitalise now whilst competition for player transfers is low, and many clubs find themselves in weakened financial positions due to Covid, etc. Would be quite a drastic change in approach, especially for Levy.

Or spend big now because you know you’re getting a big fee for one of your star players down the line, which is Levy 101.

Was thinking the same, have they been linked much?
No, but that would be very good replacement for Dias, Benfica can see Foyth has a massive potential and with regular game time he will be worth a lot in 2 years

I think something is going on behind the scenes here.

We hardly have any money at all is what we are being fed. Scrape 2 good value deals with Hojberg and Doherty.

All of a sudden we sign Bale on 300k a week (this is very un-tottenham), Reguilon for 30mil and are linked with big money moves for Ings and now Dias. We also sign Alex Morgan the biggest star in ladies American football.

Not suggesting a takeover but has some investment been lined up? Stadium naming? Not sure.
I hate to say it but future Kane windfall?

Only issue I see is Benfica may have been resting on Gedson bringing in a fee. They may not want him back.
I think we paid some loan fee and they would be crazy thinking we will pay for him at this moment

Look at the Alex Morgan signing for the clue. Marketing boom. I’d guess either naming rights with a US based company or possibly a US based investor buying in?

I don't know anything about this guy but I do know that I'm not convinced by this Dier/Toby partnership. Sanchez and Foyth haven't really lived up to the hype and Tanganga is still a bit raw so that is definitely a gap that could be filled by a top, top defender if one is available.

This would be amazing but seems one wonderful daydream too much to be honest ...

Only at Spurs could fans moan constantly about not spending money, then when we drop 30mil (not even that much these days) on a player and get another on loan, suddenly there's some massive conspiracy and Kanes off ?

If Benfica are willing to let him go for less than £50m, that would be a massive departure from the fees I’ve seen in the press. I know we usually see little smoke without fire, but I struggle to see why Dias would go for less than that.
Possibly a combination of things, the covid19 effect with no gate money meaning clubs aren't willing to pay the enormous fees this year and if Benfica's financial situation means they need to get money in they may have to take the bird in the hand rather than hope to get the two in the bush next year.
