We haven’t spent that much this summer though have we. Doherty and Hojbjerg were very reasonable costs, Bale hasn’t cost us a lot upfront, it’s only Regullion that’s actually a hefty chunk.

Pleasing to see that the links to Linegaard have been rejected as he is awful. Will be interesting to see if we actually do spend big on a striker before shifting the likes of Rose/Aurier/Foyth who we all know are available to go

I would respond to the first part but this is not the thread for that.

I don’t see how Sess and Clarke can go out on loan as that’ll likely drop us below the HG quota. Of course if Ings and other English players are an option. It could change things.

Sessegnon and Clark are young enough they don't need to be included in the 25 man squad.
Also you don't need to fill every spot on the squad.

If we don't have 8(?) HG players, you just have a smaller squad.

Anyway. Anyone wanting to discuss about the squad size should go here:

Lingard is not a name that has ever come up , we have 8 wingers / number 9 now for 3 positions , Clarke and possibly sess wIll go on loan but even so

we are probably about to spend another 40 on a striker now and would still like a central def and mid So I just do not see it even when a few bodies leave the next few day
Really glad to hear this, Lingard is a bellend and also really mediocre

We've spent 60m with no outgoings in a year where we don't now when we will have gate receipts back. For a club that spent 0 with outgoings for 18 months when we were racking in the profit that's pretty out of character.

So we’re after a creative midfielder re the ITK?

I’m not gonna start a guessing game in here, but I literally do not have a scooby as to who that may be.

£40m on a striker, whatever is happening, I’m not complaining

I notice dragon says "when" a few bodies leave" I still think there'll be a bunch of outgoings by the end of the window.
Never took the Lingard story seriously anyway.
There have been Mourinho quotes this week saying the squad is too big so I do expect there will be some outgoings

Do think adding up the ITK there is something in the ‘Celtic lad’ deal. Would be ideal!

The ENIC investing because there is value out there makes sense. If there is a chance to structure sensible deals for high ceiling players, let’s do it!

Those questioning why we wouldn't spend £20m on Wilson but £40m on a different target.

There is a difference between cost and value. Value doesn't mean cheap. It's about return on investment in terms of; goals, addressing gaps in the current squad, potential resale upside, marketability, deal maturity.

We as fans also always negate the contract cost when comparing total investment of a signing. Wilson could have demand £100k a week over 4 years (£20.8m), Eduard could be £50k (£10.4). Adding that into any 'value' calculation all of a sudden gives a very different perspective.

All sounds good as this is the first real window for DL to give JM the chance to re-build the team his way. I am of course not a lover of our manager but do acknowledge that it needs a couple of years to shape a team, assuming you have the backing needed to do it

He literally scored on his Newcastle debut

Darren Bent scored on nearly every debut he had.

I think if the club are going to spend strong money, they are going to do it on players who have some sort of long term prospects for us (either at the club or as resale). Bale obviously a different kettle of fish.

Crazy to think we could add another 3 to what we already have so far. Surely got to see some outgoings soon.

I reckon we are going to see outgoings next week. Before any new faces

Interesting that from D1 and when you look at it he’s right. We’ll have to shift Rose, Foyth and probably CCV permanently and loan out Clarke.

That would then leave us a 25 man squad, so we’d still have to look at loaning out someone like Sess or selling Aurier/Lamela/Sissoko to make room for a striker and another creative mid if that’s what we want.
