I dont think Ings would just be a backup. I also don't think Southampton will sell. Not unless they have a replacement lined up. As it would be a disaster for them.

The reason I don't think hed be a back up, is with the volume of games, kane.needing some.time out etc. Plus, it gives JM another tactical option, to play Danny in front of Harry. Danny Ings is lethal in the box and HK has one hell of a pass on him. Just offers something different.

A good signing if DL can make it happen.

Might be showing my age here but I remember squads having 4 strikers. There are plenty of games go for around so back up is a wrong way of talking about it.

Kane will be ruined if we don’t give him someone who can rotate with him throughout the season

Ings just doesn’t seem to quite fit, for me. At least from a deal perspective, anyway. All the signings so far have been opportunistic deals to a certain extent. Players that we’ve had on our radar for a while and then Covid/personal issues/whatever weakened the other clubs hands and gave us the shot at a deal. Unless Ings forces the issue, he’s still a very high price target.

I am not sure the reasoning of finding Ings overpriced holds water. The logic that he is worth more to Southampton than he is worth to us sounds reasonable, but if you think deeper, he IS worth that much to us.

He is, I feel the difference between CL or EL. Bale will need a few months to get going, as will Doherty and Reg. If Kane is injured, who can we count on to score? An exciting young striker or a proven striker?

If we do not get a proven striker, we will lose more games and lose CL in the 1st 10 games of the season.

That's my view.

But why would we pay so much for a bench player? As long as Kane is fit, he doesn't really have a place in our team. Wouldn't someone like Diego Costa make more sense? Good player who we could get cheap and would probably be happy as a bench player?

Always see people worried about how much we are paying for someone, and can never understand why ! If Levy sanctions a purchase then we obviously can afford it. That literally is all we need to care about. Could be a £1 or £100m, makes absolutely no difference to me how much we pay, all that matters is 'Is it the right player'. In an ideal world, no player at our club should be a 'bench warmer', they should all be busting a gut to be a first XI regular. Ings would do that, you can see that by how he's got his career back on track. At £45m would he be deemed as overpriced for Fantasy Football or Football Manager purposes - yeah probably. Back in the real world, he's worth whatever we are prepared to pay for him.

35 mins has changed my mind. Ings looks 10x as dangerous as Kane. Also actually able to stay onside.

to be fair Kane wasn’t offside in either ‘goal’!
Ings definitely does look sharp tho.
Midfield is our problem. We can’t play the ball through to forwards
Ings in our team, would just stand up front by himself as Kane has. No one getting him the ball

Agreed. I think we need a real DM so we can play another attacking midfielder with more freedom.

People who don’t rate Ings, must not watch football. He was incredible last season, his work rate is off the charts.
