I think Foyth is a prime example of snapping up a young talent without having a really considered plan for them just because others are circling.

If you do that you have to find a club willing to take a loan immediately. I'm not in favour of doing what Chelsea were doing but I do think investing in 2 or 3 highly talented international youngsters and loaning them out is much more effective than buying them and thinking that having them train with you is enough.

I actually feel really bad for Foyth.

think poch’s stubbornness in that he didn’t want young players going out on loan has really damaged his progress, if he’d spent the last few seasons on loan playing regularly and ironing out the mistakes in his game he could now be in a position where he could challenge for a starting place, instead apart from a few runs in the side he’s been limited to mostly cup minutes and has stagnated. It’s a real shame because apart from a few mistakes he’s looked a good player with real potential

Can you post the English translation with tweets please.

General gist is that Valencia are in for Foyth & Rugani, have agreement with players and are talking with Spurs & Juve about reaching a deal. These are the two players that are most advanced in terms of incomings at Valencia.

That would be a great move for him.
Unlucky time for him at spurs but very young and plenty of time for him to get going again

It's a shame if he goes, there's something about him, he has some great qualities. But he needs to play and he's just not going to get in ahead of Skriniar Sanchez Toby or Dier.

Took a glance at this (Spanish is pretty good)

The article itself is largely what the headline is, Valencia’s two most advanced targets are Rugani and Foyth. I found the sentence that “the problem with Foyth is meeting the fee Spurs want” to be important.

I may be the odd one out, but I feel he can do a job for us in DM. Hojbjerg is not going to be able to play every game and neither of Winks or Sissoko are adept at that position.

Instead of spending however much that a backup DM would cost, why not give him a chance there. He's miles better than Sissoko in terms of footballing ability and much like Dier can be used in a slightly more advanced position to weed out the odd mistake. It's a position where he can get away with it unlike a defender.

I rate Foyth highly and think he will be on of the top defenders in the league if not Europe. The way he has been managed by the club has been nothing short of shambolic.

Both Poch and Jose would have looked closely at Foyth in training, it’s not a coincidence that neither is or was prepared to try him out in midfield in a “real” match.
It’s also not a coincidence that nobody is knocking down the door to buy him.

Exactly this.

Poch being the young players’ manager and the fullback whisperer is one of the biggest and most persistent myths of his period with us. After Dele and Winks, how many of our young talents were really given a chance? Not even allowed to go out on loans as it was better to train under him but never play (the first years). And after the first seasons of Rose & Walker, how many of our defenders really developed under his management?

Foyth was uneven in his performances for us. He did some mistakes. As young players do! When you get one match every 2-3-4 months as a young player, you never really get a proper chance to develop into a quality player. The potential was there for anyone to see, and it’s not like we were the only ones after him. He was a great young Argentinian defensive talent, came to us as a teenager, and was then badly mismanaged. Simple as.
This 100% does not apply to Foyth. Foyth was bought with almost no experience so hardly played year 1. Made a significant amount of starts year 2 and was on track to be a full time starter last season.

I think it does apply to Foyth a fair amount.

Foyth played about 1200 minutes in all comps over the course of his second season - that's not bad, but he never got a consistent run of games to find his rhythm or gain confidence. He was also played a lot more than expected due to an injury crisis at CB. I think at that age, especially in the case of an error-prone but talented young defender like Foyth, he would've benefited much much more from a 40+ game season at a Championship side to help iron out those errors.

You're also making the assumption that Poch was going to play him as a full time starter last season and we all thought the same about KWP who Poch swiftly dropped back to the bench/reserves after a couple of starts at the beginning of like... 3 consecutive seasons?

Personally I think we could've kept him around the squad for 6-12 months to help him settle and then sent him out on loan to get serious minutes. Other than in the case of Winks, this seems to have been the most successful approach for most of our youngsters: Kane, Rose, Walker etc (and hopefully now Parrott and Skipp).

I think he's got all the physical and technical qualities to be an excellent DM, but he still runs into trouble approximately once every game and that's a big no-no in that position. I just don't think Jose would trust him there.

Even in pre-season I remember him playing really well and then trotting out into midfield, giving the ball away cheaply and us conceding as a result. For all Winks' and Hojbjerg's respective limitations, they don't do anything silly on the ball.

I think we did have a plan for him, but our new manager saw things differently. Foyth was increasingly getting more and more game time before Jose.
