Just as I was feeling very positive about our squad dele is going to go. Really upsetting that a big player in our recent successful seasons would go when the noises were so positive all pre season?! That stupid documentary seems to have been the catalyst and all of a sudden something has happened. Gutted

Players reaching a high level of performance at a young age then plateauing or falling off seems to have become a much more common thing in the last decade. It can only be that the money is sooo good once you reach that level that it almost kills the drive to need to keep pushing. You are set for life so if you are having a rough patch the need to fight through it isn't as high as it would have been previously.

Unless him moving is really close, it feels idiotic to leave him out when we need to use our squad as much as possible this week, especially with Son injured. Unless of course we plan on using an U18 squad tonight, to stick 2 fingers up at the EFL...

This is a really sad situation. He was one of the symbols of our rise under Pochetinno but he just hasn't developed. We just can't carry someone who is so careless on the ball. The carelessness has always been there but very much glossed over by everyone because he was so productive in front of goal. Now that he seems to have lost that goalscoring touch it's difficult to justify his place in the starting eleven.

Until he learns how to look after the ball better I just don't think he's going to play for another top team. He's too much of a luxury player who puts too much pressure on the rest of the team by this carelessness. I really hope he knuckles down and does develop but I have doubts that a 24 year old can all of sudden become better at keep possession.

His position/role in our current set up is obselete.

I don't think he has the tools to adapt to another position.

Also has had recurrent hamstring problems in the last couple of seasons.

Time to cash out.

Ndom did it but yeh, something not right here

Kind of, but Tanguy never had Jose's trust to begin with, he's earned it over time.

Mourinho went out of his way to win over Dele in an attempt to get the best out of him. We're now at a point where it looks like he's given up on him.

Has any player ever turned it around with Mourinho from that position?

And that's not a bad team but we need most of the mid/forwards for Thursday and Sunday like ndombele, sissoko, Berg and lamela so adding in Dele to that would mean giving one of those I referenced a break because we also have no son now as well.
Predetermined subs of Ndombele, and two from Reguilón, Bergwijn and Lamela solves that issue.

It's difficult when we hold on to past memories.

Dele was a great player 3 years ago. I like him and he still has plenty of time to rediscover his form, but as a club we need to demand form in the here and now. I've always felt we've been too nice about things when the shrewd thing to do here is get him out on loan, let him show us what we've been missing and either he comes back a better player or we sell him.

He certainly isn't going to get a run of games here and he needs a fresh start.

Nothing personal, just business from a club aspiring to win trophies (not be a nearly team).

Fucking Gedson getting in the squad ahead of Alli. With Son being injured I really think it's a strange time to cast aside a player that even in the worst of times will still press well and get in very good positions. 12 goals + assists in the league last year isn't shabby and no one will argue that he had a very good season.

By all accounts we are trying to do a deal with PSG when there’s this much money involved we aren’t likely to risk the guy getting injured are we.

I was watching TN during the Newcastle game and the flicks and the chances created is what I wish Dele would bring in his role but he just looks constraint when he plays, like his creativity is lost. He knows he is not performing but lacks the mentality to turn it around. He needs to dig in and grow up so he can push forwards I still think there is a lot of potential left in him so do not want to see him leave. I want him to fight for his place!

Well unless he's tested positive for Covid, the writing looks very much on the wall.

If he isn't in the squad again tonight then that's him done here. Sad really but perhaps best for all involved that he has a fresh start somewhere else.

Jose's first words......"prove to yourself Dele that you can be a great, great player, not someone who had a few good years. I don't know if it's your lifestyle, friends attitude, but prove to yourself that you're one of the best...."

For comparison, he said to the same to Kane....I know I'm being extremely harsh, but there's just no room for sentiment at this level. It's one of the reasons we haven't won a trophy in 12 plus years.

Jose is a serial winner. He ..(needs) DEMANDS that from his squad.

Time to capitalize if we can on this investment and improve our squad of serial winners.

I trust Jose.. because his record tells me so
I've literally (like 2 mins ago) just finished the Netflix programme featuring Jose. And anyone in any doubt about him should watch it asap. If he thinks Dele needs to be sacrificed then I'm 100% behind him.

If Dele goes? Looking likely, hoping to bring in another midfielder. Preference UK-based. If overseas will have to of moved on Foyth at least

EDIT: Hoping! Not guaranteed we will bring in! But trying!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only UK based midfielders we've been linked with are David Brooks and Todd Cantwell? Both would be obtainable during that extended transfer window.

not exactly true in Jose's reign. Gedson has had far far fewer minutes then Dele. if you are talking about tonight (on the presumption that Gedson is in the squad and Dele isnt) then thats fair, except you are not taking into account that Dele seems like hes leaving, and therefore it makes sense that we give Gedson minutes instead.

Ultimately I think there is a very good player in Dele, however, for one reason or another, he has failed to produce consistently for a while now. there are flashes and when they come they are great. but we need more than that. If you add that to a potential relationship breakdown, then it seems logical for him to leave.

Its a shame, but it could be the right decision if we are serious about progressing.

Personnally hope its just a loan and we still have a shot at having a prime Dele in the future.

Bit harsh the way he's being treated tbh. This isn't some bit part player, he's been a loyal servant.

Oh nonsense. He's a valuable asset, if he's being moved on we're not going to risk injuring him.

That's not good for us, for him, or for any buying club.
