Second season is usually peak for him, we better enjoy it while we can...
No one's enjoyed anything since we reached the Champions League Final and people even moaned about that.

Where has anyone enjoyed anything we've done in the last 18 months? We even beat Arsenal, twice, and people moaned.

Lines been drawn - there are now some back on the side of the media in some quarters on here because they are pointing out things that fit the narrative.

Happy doesn't come into it, some people like the perpetual state of delusion mixed with misery because it suits them, if the expectations are low, it won't matter in the long term.

Who wants a pot to piss in, it means we don't have what Liverpool have - we were getting what Liverpool had without the cups but we needed a cup to sustain what we wanted to do.

It's an ever decreasing circle, one in which some of our fans are never fucking happy with anything.

Is he though? We saw in the documentary last season how he and Sacramento were calling for certain actions at half time in games (pressing high and more aggressively was a common one) only for the team to come out and play exactly the same way they did in the first half.

We have video evidence that the team doesn't always follow the manager's instructions. And for all of his "pragmatism" about shutting up shop, I refuse to believe he instructed his team to try to defend a one goal lead from the first minute against a team that has only averaged 1 goal scored a game so far this season.

In my opinion, there's clearly a disconnect between what the manager wants and how the team interprets it. Something like:

Jose: "Stay solid at the back, defend as a team first and look to break quickly when the opportunity opens up."
Team: "Got it. 11 men behind the ball, boot it forward and hope someone has the energy to chase it."

Ultimately though, we've had a ridiculously tough run of games recently. We haven't had a single league game since early November that most people would have looked at beforehand and gone "that's a definite 3 points." We now have a run of games, in both the league and the cups, where we have the opportunity to assert out superiority and control games, along with maintaining a confidence building winning streak before we host Liverpool.

I feel it's worth giving both the manager and the team those 5-6 games before we start writing the season of and calling for the manager to be sacked.
But the problem is I think they all know any defensive lapse and they will get barked at then straight out the team. As a player that takes away your emphasis, energy and freedom to go forward. Look what happened to Aurier and Alli, the players will know what Jose is like and it has more of an impact than what Jose says in a HT team talk in my opinion, Jose needs to realise this but maybe he likes it that way

That’s why we need another body in central midfield. Apart from Hojbjerg in parts has shown enough in our central midfield areas. I think we need a clear out there and start again.
The problem we and most of football face is that clubs are haemorrhaging cash at a rapid rate and funds for transfers will be extremely limited. I agree that we need to shift certain players but that will be difficult due to my aforementioned point, but also i suspect the likes of Winks, Sanchez, Lamela and Moura for example will be on big money, money which most teams can't currently afford

We need to move players out first to then get players in, which i anticipate will be a big challenge.

The problem is these supposedly 'easier' run of games will be the exact opposite.

I've seen nothing in our approach to these games to say we'll come out on top. I'm worried to be honest.

The problem is it's not sustainable playing this way over the long term.

I love that he made us tougher to beat but this mindset of sitting on what we have, regardless of the opposition, is just not going to cut it.

For me if Jose doesn't make us more ambitious against similar or lesser opposition it will inevitably end badly for him/us.

Now I hope he can adjust because there are some good things he's done.

Even the best managers can see when they go wrong, and they change, evolve and grow as managers.

It's not an admission that you're wrong, its just adapting to what needs to change.

If he can't see that now then there's a problem.

We've the perfect two home games coming up.

I'm not interested in two scrappy 1 nil wins here, I want to see evidence that Mourinho is prepared to adjust his tactics dependent on the opposition.

That's the test now for longer term success.

Same. I watched a film last night instead. I just can’t be bothered with football if it’s like this. It’s just not what I watch it for.

As you say, every match feels like 2 hours wasted and there is no enjoyment to get from it, so why bother.
Yea I have to say even as a big Jose admirer I knew what we’d be in store for but seeing it match after match is just so draining. If it can win us an FA cup or EL then great but all this for the carabao cup is hard to stomach. Top 4 is a must as well even with a trophy.

As we’ve said many times results are so so important when we have to endure watching this tripe.

Would you be worried if we had won last night and v Palace?

I doubt it. We're in poor form the last couple of weeks, a couple of wins puts that right again.

Better attacking options who’re regularly fit would help Jose as well. Only Son and Kane are a regular goal and creative attacking threat, Ndombele and Lo Celso and Regullion at times. Bale and Lamela are rarely fit, Bergwijn has been turned into a defensive winger and Lucas has very little attacking output. Regardless of tactics and a style of play thats not enough.

City in this pomp had Walker, Mendy, D.Silva, KDB, Sane, Sterling, Marhez, B.Silva, Aguero, Jesus

Liverpool have : Robbo, Trent, Henderson, Mane, Salah, Firminiho and Ox when fit,

Also if we win against Fulham and Leeds in the next 2 home games then we’ll be right back up there. Style of play is awful but results are about a B+ so far overall.

if performances and results continue in the current manner for the next 4-5 games then expect the media coverage to elevate to fever pitch and they'll be wheeling out every man and his dog for their opinion on whether Kane is happy, Son is knackerd and what next for Dele.

This place smells like AFTV.

Our first really bad run of form all season and the knives are out. Meanwhile we were absolutely dogshit for the best part of a year under Poch and people wanted to give him more time.
Its ridiculous...people lost the plot in here last night.

We’re either the best team in the world or the worst, there’s just no rational middle ground for these people. Modern day, social media, football fans I suppose.
I got stacks of negative and disagree because I tried to get people to chill out

I think it’s a fallacy to say we’ve only been in poor form the last couple of weeks - performance wise anyway.

despite picking up results in the early stages of the season we have not played well in even a quarter of our games.

played well:
10 man Man Utd,
45 mins against Southampton
Disciplined against City
Arsenal was a solid game plan

We have been awful against:
Leicester
Palace
Wolves
Liverpool (IMO)
Everton
Plovdiv (despite just winning)
West Brom (won - underwhelming perf)
Lask
Antwerp
Brighton (won - very underwhelming perf)

It’s hardly surprising that those who can see we haven’t been playing well all season but can just about it accept it if we scrape a result - even though they know the results are unsustainable against the performance - are going to be deeply unhappy when we continue playing poorly and also lose because of the tactics.

It's not just the bad results that worry fans, but also the fact that we've been dogshite to mediocre at best in 3 of the last 4 league matches.

I would argue more games than that. Just that scraping results seems to mean that people can’t see a poor performance.

Mourinho has been manager for over a year and the performances have been wretched for at least half of the that time.

Fans will generally forgive a poor run of form, but consistently poor football is harder to ignore.
