I get why some pitches are described as being 'slow' but I never understood what people meant by describing a pitch as being 'low'. Can you help?
.

Low bounce. Must get forward on it. Don’t really need a lid

Watched the match winning innings of Jemimah Rodriquez yesterday. Absolutely brilliant, best knock I’ve ever seen from a Woman. The way she manipulated the field and placed the ball wherever the fielders weren’t or had just moved from was a joy to watch

She’s only 20 too! Well worth a look if you can find it…

The graphics are a bit naff and the new terminology they've invented for no particular reason is a bit odd, but other than that I don't see what all the fuss is. I'm no cricket afficionado, just a casual fan, but to me it's basically just like another T20 competition. If you like T20, I don't see why you'd not like this once you get past the graphics etc. as the style of play is essentially the same.

Now there's obviously the debate about why they needed to make this "basically like T20 format" rather than just putting funding behind an actual T20 comp, but that's a slightly different issue and tbh doesn't really affect whether the actual matches are enjoyable either way.

Mike Hendrick: Former England, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire bowler dies aged 72

RIP. Brings back so many memories from the 70s and 80s. Genuine cricketer always in the shadow of others such as Willis and Botham.

I’m reading Robin Smith’s autobiography at the moment. You forget how much of a shambles English cricket was in the 90s, absolute chaos behind the scene.

2 things stick out though, he averaged 45 at the end of his career, having spent the first few years being lauded as one of the best, and only playing against “the best” if that makes sense as England played very few Tests against the chaff in those days.

Also, it really hits home how much the ICC has stitched up the likes of the West Indies, who used to be the greatest. Now they have no money, and their second rate mercenaries tour the globe in rubbish tournaments. Such a shame we don’t have a side anywhere near that of what they used to be to challenge.

Watched few games of the hundred now, the Cricket being played is fine. It’s just that the actual format and the new gimmicks are pointless. I can’t see it catching on around the world like 20/20 did.

Also the commentators etc are really irritating trying to make it out that this is a new style of cricket and players are playing in a different way to how they would play 20/20 cricket for instance. KP in particular was horrendous last night

I wish they would also stop the constant ramming it down the throats of families at the games. Constant shots of families/kids in the crowd. It’s like they are trying to ram home the point that the game is attracting a new audience. Particularly after the first men’s games at the oval where they were criticised for just having same old audience who attend 20/20 cricket get pissed and sing the same songs over and over again.

It’s concerning news about Ben Stokes but the guys now play an insane amount of competitive cricket, in all disciplines, all around the world and burn out must be a real problem. Must put real pressure on married relationships.

The bleedin' obvious, really, but I'm sure the various bubbles he's had to be in over the past year and more have had a significant effect.

I hope Stokesy gets the help he needs.

it’s tough being an England player in normal times - pretty much year round games, the busiest calendar in the international game, plus IPL etc. even worse this past year or so with the bio-secure bubbles. must be so tough being away from your family.

there was me whinging about the rotation and resting of players over the past year.

Quite. Being in a bubble with my wife last year took its toll on me. Remains to be seen what long term damage that did!.

I remember a while back when both Marcus Trescothick and Jonathan Trott had to take time away from the game because of 'emotional issues' and there were some people who were a little less sympathetic to them and their own personal emotional issues at the time than we are towards players today, not just in cricket, but I guess in a number of sports.

I have to admit, my first thoughts when I heard of his decision to take a complete break from the game were about the Ashes series at the end of the year, but then I realised how wrong I was to think that. His mental health is the most important thing in the world, so however long it takes has to be the answer. I only hope and pray he get's the expert help he needs and I'm sure he will.

Something has been slightly bothering me with the graphics introducing the batters in this Hundred series and it's probably a silly thing, but when the new batter is about to play, they put up his stats. I noticed yesterday when James Vince was about to play, his stats said:

Played 4
Runs: 100
Average: 33.33

I thought, surely, his average has to be 25?

Am I going bonkers? (actually, don't answer that..)

Average is only measured on completed innings, so basically the calculation at the point he came out to bat would be 100/3 as he’d been out 3 times. If he was out for 0 yesterday the calculation would be 100/4 which would give him the average of 25. If however he ended yesterday on 50 not out, this would not count as a completed innings so his calculation would be 150/3 and give him an average of 50.
