More importantly, we don't have a single striker to start the season. WTF are we playing at?

it's a shambles (four players got double figures for us last year, two were loans we've not renewed and one is AWOL) but tbf we probably expected either harry or the bag of money instead of harry to be here. us having neither was a bit unexpected

I think the thing that is most telling to me, is the fact that he has decided to take an extended break, regardless of whether he continues to play for us or play for another team. If he wants to "win" trophies, should you not think maybe I will do like every other player, come back and get myself fit ready for a season to win these trophies that he thinks he is deserved.

You don't get anywhere without hardwork and dedication, something which he seems to be forgetting about whilst jetting around the world.

he's more mourinho than poch, which is genuinely heartbreaking.

Seeing Grealish sign for a club like City is so sad. Such a nothing club but the last 10 years cheated their way to the top. The league needs to stop this financial doping but it's too late now.

There may well be some Villa fans who will never forgive him, but I have to say, hearing his parting statement to the Villa fans yesterday, I thought he said exactly what he should have said, and that he was being 100% genuine with the words he chose. He didn't refuse to train with them right up to his move. He didn't disgrace himself or the club he obviously loves in the eyes of the Villa fan base. Fair play to the man.

He isn't a striker, have you seen him play with his back to goal?

So Defoe wasn't a striker, because he was poor with his back to goal. Lukaku wasn't a striker until he worked with Conte.

etc. etc.

BTW, Kane isn't a striker either, if Son can't be. He spends more time, technically, in midfield these days, and is more often than not at least the 3rd furthest player from the goal.

Can’t help but feel all this Kane hate is a bit childish and OTT in my opinion . A bit like the Alan Sugar moment with Klinsman and ‘wouldn’t wash my car with his shirt’ roll forward and he come back all loved . All he’s done is been a bit stupid after we all know and wished him well if he went . So I really don’t get the histrionics whereby your either a legend or hated with no middle ground. People need to get a grip with things . Personally if the bid isn’t satisfactory he will come back knuckle down and give his all and you’ll all be singing one of our own again .

Think they're your categories pal. I think most people think he's been a dick - they don't HATE him. At this stage, in all reality, I think the bold bit is well off.

Why don't we take a 100 million for Kane and then a further 50 next season, if they win something. It would be hilarious if they didn't. I would be happy for them to keep the money.
I like this, it could be for the next ten years. Also a 50 for each of the other Prem clubs…

Are you literally arguing for the sake of it? Kane isn't a striker if Son can't be? Son isn't a striker, Kane is.

Lukaku wasn't a striker until he worked with Conte? what are you on about mate?

So looking at some of city’s prior spending , they had a summer window spending 320m euro all up the year they got Walker/mendy etc,

So surely they’d not be worried about lumping 250m+ on two players alone (Grealish/Kane) especially if it’s there main two targets ? Would they have made large revenues from the CL final as well?

The rumours of grealish were around during and before the euros and it happened when the fee was met , and I fully expect the same to happen here , if not could Kane do a Torres and join in January?

Imagine it in any other industry.

It's like being offered a job where there's a complimentary supermodel brothel on site, fully expensed company car, free lunch and refreshments, half the hours and work, and then they say they'll triple your salary.

...and no cheese room? I"d tell 'em to fuck off.

You said "He isn't a striker, have you seen him play with his back to goal?".

Therefore, the crux of your argument is that someone who isn't good with their back to goal isn't a striker. That was Lukaku's biggest weakness before he got going with Inter, and Defoe was never strong at that (among many other forwards in history that aren't good at hold-up play).

You're making up criteria you don't even understand. The term 'Striker' is a synonym for a forward - but, more often than not, one who can or does play centrally. Doesn't matter how you want to dress it up, that's Son.

If you have your own definition that is something you've invented yourself, that's fine - just don't complain when it's highlighted that you're wrong about it. Alternatively, if you want to keep tilting at that particular windmill, feel free to define what a 'striker' is, and why Son isn't.

Think people are getting a little too hung up on the squad number thing. Kane wears 9 for England, if he was that attached to the number ten he’d likely wear it for his country wouldn’t he.

You don’t have to see him banging in goals week in week out for an English team if he’s at Madrid. I’d have wished him well if he had gone to Spain etc. Like Bale, and Modric. I have no desire to see him doing well for any other team in the premier league. Least of all the likes of City.

I wouldn't care less how many goals he scores aginst other teams, but against us...? Hell no. That would crucify the lot of us.

He didn’t have to though tbf, he had a release clause in which was met. I’m not saying he would of but the situation was very different.

Surely if you were Man City, financially it would make more sense to sign Messi for a couple or three years, than Kane for 5. That would create extra fans and in turn they would buy shirts with Messi on the back.
With the amount Grealish is alleged to earn, double that for Messi but offset that with no transfer fee.

Edit: After a quick google, 2Million shirts with Messi on the back were sold in 2020.

They've generated a fair amount in sales the last 2 windows with their sales.

This summer they've sold - Angelino, Harrison & Nmecha (£36 mil) so far. Likely to sell a few others that could catch a decent fee e.g., B.Silva, Sterling, Jesus.

20/21 season - Sane & Otamendi for approx £54 mil.

Those windows alone they've generated £90 million.

Given that they won the league and got to the CL final last season, they'll have a decent prize money built too.

Then you have to take into account that their dodgy sponsorships and owner can splash the cash when or if they like. They'll have the money for him if they sell a few more easily.

He also suits their style of play more than Kane does imo.
