Legend. Amazing natural goalscorer with that instinct that so few have but he was more than that. A dribbler extraordinaire, poacher, fox in the box and he could assist too, draw defenders away and play a beautiful pass to feet and with a wicked turn of pace when needed. Saw him many times at WHL and what a pleasure it was to watch one of the great goalscorers of all time! RIP Jimmy Greaves - you were unique and we'll never see the likes of you again!

I live abroad now, so don't get to many games, but so wish I was in the stadium for this one.
Jimmy holds the record for most goals in a season with both clubs. What a day to commemorate the great man, who made goalscoring look a lot more easy than it is.

The greatest. The man is surely finishing off a 6 yard tap in from a Maradona cut back in the Heaven XI.

Massive atmosphere expected at the game today.

RIP.

I had the pleasure to see Jimmy play many times and the reason I started to go white hart lane and follow spurs home and away.
The greatest goal scorer I had the honour to witness. So many goals to reminisce about. Truly sad day.

So come on Harry, you're the man following in Jimmy's footsteps. Put one in the net for us, preferably three including the winner

So upset about this, in part because of losing him but also in part knowing how this will wipe my dad out when he sees the news. Selfishly I hope he finds out before I get to his in a bit so that I don’t have to tell him ?

The reason I have been a Tottenham fan for 55* years

*Edit
3/9/1966 was my 1st game but I was a fan for a few years before that.

RIP JPG. Thanks again for the memories ?

The favourite (non family) person of my seventy year life has gone. A bit hard to deal with. For those interested, it might be worth looking out for Norman Giller’s next blog on Spurs Odyssey.

Many great memories of Jimmy , the day he danced around Nobby Stiles & the United defence at The Lane just one of them. Always seem to remember his pinpoint corner taking , could do with some of that these days or perhaps I only remember the good ones.

From Eduardo Galeano's "Football in Sun and Shadow":
In a Western he would have been the fastest foot in the West. On the football field he scored a hundred goals before he was twenty, and by the time he was twenty-five they still hadn’t invented a lightning rod that could ground him. More than run, he exploded: Jimmy Greaves pushed off so fast, the referees used to call him offside by mistake, because they could not figure out where his sudden stabs and bull’s-eye shots came from. They would see him land, but they never saw him take off. ‘I want to score so badly,’ he said, ‘it hurts.’

I cried as a young lad when he left Spurs. I cried again this morning hearing the news. Absolutely gutted. Simply the best ever and so happy I was around to see him play.

Sadly, when Sir Bill died, we were home to Bolton, and expecting a big response from the team, we witnessed an abject surrender, losing 0-2. You'd like to think our team would give absolutely everything today, but somehow I doubt it.

R.I.P. Jim. Thanks for the memories.

Very sad news

I had the pleasure to see him play many times.

Along with Hoddle, my favourite Spurs' player.
