But why now? Why not the summer, i.e. what has changed? Is this Levy panicking and feeling forced to spend what he wasn't willing to spend originally?
I mean I wanted Conte from the off, but IF IF IF IF we did sign Conte for a ton of cash and offer him what he is after project wise, I would still be F'ing annoyed at Levy for not having the balls to do that in the summer and instead f up again hoping to keep it cheap. More wasted time and money, rather than being decisive in the first place.

Still, I would be obviously happy at Conte and I think Levy is concerned that he might need to twist rather than stick sooner due to Man United and Newcastle circling.

"We tried" won't reflect well on Levy at all, not the way this is being reported. DiMarzio is saying that Conte is willing to come and it's up to the club to commit to investing what it will take to be successful. If it doesn't come off it will only confirm that Levy lacks ambition, which will hardly stem the tide of the criticism he's been getting.
A time travel post. you could have written that in the early summer…Levy didn’t commit then, Levy, once again, revealed the lack of ambition.

I doubt Conte sees himself as some kind of international save us from relegation Sam allardyce

Dragon1 has just posted this on COYS forum about Conte

It wasn’t just that he demanded a 100 million net spend by the fourth or fifth day of negotiations we thought he was a lunatic and would be incredibly difficult to work with , there would hsve to be a humungous turn around for him to come

potter rejected us twice , Rodgers the same and gerrard once , god knows what happens this time

Daniel does not like nuno they know they made a mistake but he was always short term until Poch could escape Paris but the crowds reaction yesterday shocked the board and many of the senior players do not like nuno

Dragon1's follow up posts
Thanks dragon. Nuno's time is up and the next appointment must be the right one.

You do know who is running our club don’t you
I'm hoping Paratici can convince Conte to come and put out this tyre fire!

Enic would have to guarantee him substantial funds in Jan

the latter paragraph is what annoys me most; such a loser mentality - employ a stop gap in the hope that your prized target, that you won’t stump up the compensation for, might be get sacked and become available some way down the line vs. Building for the now and future by employing a coach who embodies our footballing philosophy (EtH).

If Utd really wanted Conte I think they would have appointed him by now.

They're obviously not 100% sold on him for whatever reason.
Utd can't sack Ole until the fans have fully turned. The Utd fans are unhappy with how things are going but at the moment they still pretty much prefer Ole to the Glazers.

Possibly but Utd won't just sack Ole now because we're kicking Conte's tyres.

The Paratici link is what makes this interesting, as well as Levy potentially more desperate and willing to give him what he's asking for.

That said I do think the appointment is very unlikely. Would be a major coup even if he'd be a ticking time bomb.

I think conte and his team are waiting for next saturdays early kick off when City spank Manure, but might aswell get the ball rolling with the Media RE: Spurs, keeping Manure on a hook becuase they still have Wally, then when they torn a new one by City, they'll have Manure over a barrel, wont offer lube and strike a fantastic deal for Conte

If we get Conte, a big if, he might be able to get us stable and playing some better football. But as with any other manager we've had, he won't get the players he want whatever is promised to him upon signing. Goalposts will move, it will always be the selling clubs fault etc etc and we will end up with 4th choice or none at all. We were extremely lucky under Poch when everything seemed to click like a perfect storm without major investment and therefore Levy expects this to be possible again and there will never be a big investment in the squad aslong as Levy is in charge.

That said I will take the months of better football under Conte over the shit currently being served up any day of the week, even if it's destined to crash and burn come February.

Yeah it's incredibly frustrating.

I imagine Levy liked the idea, spoke to Conte, received demands, and with the club not seeing the fruits from the stadium, they probably felt they couldn't meet them. Maybe now they feel it's more possible?

Also, Mourinho told Levy what he wanted to hear - Mourinho is just as good at spinning as Levy when he's promoting himself - Conte would have been frank from the very first interaction.

Levy doesnt like that. He needs people to fall in line a bit.

We can't even manage to buy a second striker so not sure why Conte would believe we'll be up for spending millions on making the squad competitive anytime soon tbh. Still just not buying it.

Hunch is that it'll be another random, attainable, cheapish stopgap until Poch is available, as Levy seems to have decided he's the only guy in world football capable of turning around this shitshow. Which speaks volumes as to Levy's lack of creativity and knowledge anyway.

Entirely possible and will likely become apparent pretty quickly. Paratici would likely try to move fast on this one and any stalling would hopefully be a massive red flag.

For some reason it feels like the Utd board really don't want to get rid of OGS until the end of the season to me however. He always pulls a big result out of the bag when things look bleak.

We’re going to wake up to several news reports dismissing the possibility of his appointment, aren’t we..?

If it is Conte then Levy must have promised him an overhauled squad. What Conte doesn't know is that squad will all be loans to buy.
