Just a slight update on my post last night regarding Perisic and Bastoni. I said we believed we had gotten both so I'll clarify a little bit now I've actually spoken to my guy. Perisic is already out there and it's all pretty much on the money.

Bastoni has personally told Conte he wants to come, just need to sort out the fee etc with Inter. We believe there is a deal to be done but Inter need to sort replacement first which they are currently working on.

?
Just to say, thanks so much for the info, as always. Really hope the positive mood around the club right now continues to be reflected on this forum, and that we don't have any of the toxic nonsense from last summer.

Getting Bastoni to say yes is a big step. Difficult to get italians out of Seria A
Shows the lure of Conte more than ever aswell. Champions league football is massive of course but without Conte I'm pretty certain that Bastoni wouldn't entertain it.

I can reiterate this firmly: the #Tottenham is working on the hips for #Bastoni , Conte wants to transfer the left chain of the #Inter to London and is making a personal commitment.

Tier one for inter news

Regarding the Guarro tweet, 'Lavorare ai fianchi' is a boxing term. Basically, it's means to 'work the sides', that is to throw some punches into the body. In other words, we're softening up the opponent (Inter) and we're doing this, I guess, by having Conte speak to Bastoni to sell the project, having Paratici discuss a fee that Inter's board can accept, doing what we can to help the Bremer deal (perhaps by agreeing payment terms that help Inter secure him), sweetening the deal with Bastoni's agent and family etc. Whatever it takes basically.

As per the metaphor, all this isn't done for the sake of it. It's done so that the opponent's defences are weakened and you can apply the knockout blow i.e. sign him from Inter.

A fair ways from last year when we were bidding for CBs who didn't want to join.

Need to make those numbers work, but this is much more exciting

I'm not convinced he will be, so we'll see.
Defensively, you might have a point. We can’t yet say how well Bastoni will cope with the requirements of defending in the Premier League.

But what is beyond doubt is that Bastoni would help us to be far better in possession; and far better equipped both to resist the press and to break down a stubborn deep block.

Not quite sure what's funny about what I wrote, our defence has been really really good with Ben and Eric, and either Dav or Cuti.
Still each to their own ?
No way I'm losing my temper, just continue to put the people who doubt Ben on my ignore list, and wait to be proved right as I have been time and again ?
Nobody's doubting Ben Davies, Bastoni is just a transformative talent. Without Inter's financial problems the only chance they'd have of losing him would be a super club bidding 100m+.

We're just very lucky that no super clubs need a LCB this window and that Inzaghi is in love with Lautaro.

Quite lucky that bringing in Paratici has coincided with a rise in the overall quality of Serie A. Was always going to be our preferred market to shop in and there seems to be a load of talent in that league at the moment!

That'll do for me, I tend to think that's how Italian clubs work, it's probably how all clubs work but I get the impression they are up front about it, everyone appreciates business is done a certain way.
Maybe I'm naive,

The exciting thing for me here is that (a) Bastoni wants to come (b) Inter seem willing to negotiate.

We often don't have a or b with top players we're linked with. See Pau Torres or Kounde, for example.

Thanks Trix. Always a concern when the player Inter want to sign is probably our first alternative to Bastoni!

Guess we will need to keep everything crossed

If we could get Barella, that would make us contenders next season. Unfortunately, very little chance that happens.

I could be off base here but curious from anyone who remembers the Inter games vs Liverpool.

I just watched the highlights to see how he stuck out in chances Liverpool had. It almost looks like they targeted him a little bit on set pieces.

He got loose on Mane for a header in the first game, was loose on Firmino for a goal off a corner in game 1.

In game 2 they set up a pick play on him, he fell over and got a free header for Van Dijk. Game 2 he also got loose on Salah for a chance he hit the bar on and picked up a yellow diving in on him.

Just some observations.
I don't really know anything about him but fair to say he was 22 when Inter played Liverpool and it's not unusual for defenders to have a sticky time aginst the best team in the competition this season with two strikers vying for the ballon d'or as well as possibly the best CB around when in the opponents box at a corner.
I guess what I am saying is it's probably unfair to judge someone on their game against Liverpool, unless he had them in his pocket of course. :)

We have to remember he is still a young defender, he's definitely not the finished product yet, however he is at an elite level already. He may have struggled against Liverpool, but let's be honest, most defenders would struggle against Liverpools forward line.

He will only get better and go to the next level reuniting with Conte, as well as playing with Romero and Dier. Those 2 will bring out the best in him. All 3 together have a really nice blend of aggression, control, and calmness, as well as being a perfect foil for each other.

Romeros aggression is more than enough to cover for Bastonis lack of it, and Bastonis ability to pick out a pass and progress with the ball is better than Romeros and Diers.

We are going to have the most offensive minded defense in the league, and I kind of like the idea of what Conte is trying to do. We are going to be attacking back to front quite literally.

City love to play with inverted full backs and dominate games with those extra runners. We are going to have at times 7 players attacking with Dier and the 2 CMs sitting back.

We will suffocate teams with pure numbers and overloads, and I for one can't wait.

To dare is to do after all, or can I say... DARE, DREAM, DO!

Thanks for the info as ever Trix.

Guess we now wait on Inter's movements. Just really really hope this comes off.

Have we thought to offer them Rodon? :cautious:

I'm not convinced he will be, so we'll see.
You're mad if you think that Conte's top target and a player who will cost 50m+ will not be his first choice
Davies has been solid but nothing like the attacking threat that Bastoni is. This is one of them type of players that adds a new dynamic to attack and can turn those frustrating games where we struggle to score into wins.

Playing Davies over Bastoni would be like playing Friedel over Lloris.

Friedel was actually really solid for us and had a great season previously IIRC but that doesn't mean Lloris wasn't a massive upgrade and capable of a lot of things Fridel simply couldn't do.
