So we have room for Mckennie when we still have Sarr to arrive? What happened to him? I assume he's still coming?

Nobody is expecting Sarr to be challenging for the CM spots this season as he was a longer term transfer.

If he does then it's all gravy. Can you have too many good CM options?

Lolz. You can understand people getting a bit carried away as we could have four signings sorted mid-June. It’s unprecedented in recent times - and whilst it’s not the end of our business that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve credit to be given where it is due.
This is gonna sound like I'm knocking our business and it's not meant to come across that way...... we doing business.. great... we not waiting until the last weeks....great

For me it's 3 players north of 30 and a prospect for the future. The window has juuuuust opened and I'll get excited when I see quality that's long term. Once again I'm not knocking our business.....I'm more circumspect at this moment in time.... not excited not disappointed etc.

Can still get a few years out of players like that, it’s not like it was 10-20 years ago, they have elite training and health facilities now and they are being brought in for a title challenge next season.

We are doing this to back a proven manager while our chips are at the highest it have been in 3 years. It indeed is good to build for the future but the present will ALWAYS be limited by the amount of "immediate impact" players we have. You know what happened to the young and raw squad we built with Pochettino. Yes they tried to challenge for half a decade but inevitably fell short due to tha lack of experienced winners and impact players.

We have an elite manager who wants to win NOW. We're getting the players he feels are ready for it NOW.

OK. I think you're in the minority, and that's obviously absolutely fine. But the strong majority in here - and on Twitter - are super excited. We've had enough false dawns in recent times and promises of big windows. It looks like we're delivering. That's certainly the messaging stronger than ever.

Those 3 players north of 30 have, like Bentancur, all won a league title in the last couple of years. That's absolutely invaluable for a team that doesn't have that collective experience. I'd love us to win a Cup next year, but I think Conte's going all out for the League and these purchases show that.

On the front page of the transfer rumours forum, how many of the players that we're interested in are over the age of 25?

We already brought in a 21 year old Kulusevski and 24 year old Bentancur in January to go along with 23 year old Romero to take their place in the first time and bring the first XI's average age down.

We've signed one of the best wing backs in the world on a free transfer, who hasn't shown any signs of slowing down in the near future.

We've signed a back up goalkeeper who will barely play.

And we're looking to bring back one of the best Premier League playmakers of the last 10-15 years.

We're clearly predominantly aiming for younger players, but with the sprinkle of experience where necessary.

Everything points to us spending big on a CB and a CM both of which will likely be players in their mid-20s who will go straight into the first team.

Supplementing the squad with 2 very experienced, top class pros like Eriksen and Perisic who have won stuff is something to be excited about IMO. That's the kind of things teams who win trophies do that we've neglected in the past.

I’ll be surprised if, based on what I’m hearing on here, we spend big on a CM. Not sure we will.

I also don’t think we need to spend all our money just cause we have it. Think the squad is shaping up nicely, and a few years with experienced pros will be useful in bedding in some younger players, of which we have quite a few, and we can take our time targeting the right players when they become available

Lol....league...naaah...a cup yes. League we were 30 points off it. Maybe the season after with more squad building.... love your optimism and hope you right.... after all I didn't expect 4th when the season began..... so who knows.

Okay peeps I've derailed this thread long enough and the mods have been fair and endulging. Rather pm of you want to engage further.

If we want, say, Mckennie, that's bound to be 40m or so. As would the likes of JWP who we have also been linked to. Given we're getting frees and bargains in other positions I think it's fairly likely we spend a chunk on a CM.

I suppose an expensive forward instead would be another option if we didn't spend much on a CM.

I think @Nine while nine is right, Conte wants to go for the league and history pretty much shows us that it's what he does.
We might not win it but I reckon we're going to give it a bloody good go.

And I like the older, experienced players to add in here and there. It gives me the Naybet vibes who, by all accounts, was massively important behind the scenes for our up and coming defenders, teaching them so much.

I think there are enough signs for it to be an exciting summer ahead. It definitely feels a lot different this time:

- The £150m cash injection is factual, not rumoured.
- The fact we've signed three over 30s shows how much Levy is backing Conte as it's against his MO.
- No talk of sell before we buy yet.
- If Conte's top target played for a club that wasn't a basket case to deal with he'd probably be here already.

I agree we probably need to wait for us to land a big money deal before cracking the champagne but it certainly feels like a much different Spurs.

I hope Levy and Paratici deliver this summer.

He didn't say we'd win the league, just that Conte's ambition is to challenge for it and so it should be.

The 150m has to be spent by the end of this year.
I don’t think this is true. The investment can be drawn in tranches until the end of the year. That doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be spent on transfers by the end of the year. The investment could be drawn and sit in an account as cash or cash equivalents until such time as we wish to use it.

I think this is the first 'agree' rating I've ever given you- usually 'funny' ratings; but I can't agree with you more than on this point.

I think you are getting carried away with the £150m figure. Yes they've invested it in the club, but it's also for non first team things, like capital projects like the hotel and infrastructure. It's not a ring fenced spend on the first team. We may spend more than this on transfers, or with outgoings as well and all the free transfers we are doing, we may even turn a profit. I don't really care how much we spend, as long as we get the right players that Conte wants for his system. The money is obviously there, but doesn't mean they will spend it all on transfers (or limit it to 150m).
