I like the idea of signing Raphinha, but I think a lot of folks are really overrating him/underrating Kulu.

Last season Deki had 13 goal contributions in 18 games (5 g +8 a). Raphinha had 14 in 35 games (11 g + 3 a). Sure Deki played in a better squad with better players, but his contribution last year was immense. For context: Son - 0.91 g+a/game, Kane - 0.7 g+a/game, Deki - 0.72 g+a/game, and Raphinha - 0.4 g+a/game. Deki's stats put him up there with Kane and Son. Raphinha will have to be incredible to do better than that.

At the end of the day, we need depth. We need to get out of the starting 11 mindset and into the squad mindset. We need the ability to rotate players without losing a step. Raphinha will help with that. But Deki was pretty darn irreplacable last season.
I mean no one here started the debate saying we need to upgrade on Kulusevski. We are only excited for a potentially class addition to the forward line. Some posters seems to completely ignore this and makes it a Kulusevski vs Raphinha thing.

So? It's not enough. Hojbjerg is still probably a starting 11 player right now, he's nowhere near good enough for a team challenging for titles.

What the hell is with our fan base bashing Hojbjerg? Not for this thread, but the dude has played nearly every premier league minute under multiple managers and was the joint most assist at the Euros or something?

Are you looking for an upgrade on Bentancur or a better cover than Hojberg here ?
Hojbjerg absolutely HAS to be upgraded.
Bentancur is a player I'm still unconvinced on. Has some nice qualities, but he a bit flakey. He's currently playing a role that demands strong defensive output, especially in the context of challenging for titles.

As I said in my original post, signing a high quality, all-round midfielder like a Ruben Neves or Milinkovic-Savic would move us much closer to potentially winning a title than spending a whopping £60m+ on competition for Kulusevski.

Why all the doom and gloom! We are gonna see a lot of movement in the next week or so with various deadlines coming up! We have been told we are in a good place let’s just take it as it comes.

Quite a lot in this thread have been manipulated to believe we are only allowed 11 players of first team quality.

When Conte said the attitude of the club needs to change I genuinely believe he was referring to fan attitudes too.

I have nothing against him personally, he's a fine player for a top-4 challenging team, but you are kidding yourself if you think he is a title/UCL-winning level midfielder. That's just reality.

What good are his assists in the Euros to us? He only managed 2 assists for us in a full season and barely missing any minutes. You might say it's because he plays DM or whatever, but I can recall several occasions where he's struggled to keep up defensively too. He's simply a player we need an upgrade on if we want to get real about challenging.

IMO, I would rather see that we buy cheaper talent as deph/potential competition (charles the kettle) and focus the big bucks for clear upgrades at LCB (bastoni/leipzig guy) and RWB (hakimi?). Also, I think that Raphina might be slightly overrated. Just my cents!

Well back to Raphinha. We'll find out soon enough whether he is overrated because he is going to move to a bigger club. I think it is hard to be overrated playing for Leeds United, but whatever. I personally would love to have him and hate to see him go elsewhere. But we can take comfort we'll actually get someone who has a great chance of improving the squad which is cheers all 'round.

Your not convinced by bentancar?? The guy has been outstanding since he joined . He’s the player that winks should but never will be .
Do you think we would have got top 4 without him ?? And played winks from January? Not a chance. Adapted brilliantly to the premier league . Great positional sense . Good on the ball and gets out of very tight situations with skill and calmness.

and will only get better
