We need to get him signed ASAP. Conte is going to be fuming if we don't get him a RWB for the tour.

Spence is the best option available this summer and homegrown. More importantly, with Conte's coaching he could develop in to a top player with his attributes.

He will definitely usurp Doherty this season if he signs, even if it takes a couple of months. The drive, speed and dribbling skills he possesses are simply unmatched by any of our other RWB options.

The Boro forum are posting regurgitations of the Percy piece thinking it will get done.....tempted to sign up and update them!
Have we ever been in a situation where the selling club's fans are confident and we're the ones full of doubt?

Normally the other club's fans are in denial and we're the ones frothing at the mouth with excitement due to the ITK.

Maybe Conte has had a close look at Tanganga and has thought, with him being HG too, that he can understudy Doherty.

I love his spirit and tenacity but Tanganga is in no way whatsoever a RWB, especially not in a Conte style system. RCB, sure but can’t see him getting many minutes there for obvious reasons

I posted a couple of weeks back that boro wanted 25m. Seemed steep to me back then but glad you've backed it up.

Hopefully we see a conclusion to this over the next 48 hours.

Busy week ?
This is very pricey but if we pass up on it only to sign a cheap second rate alternative or square peg then it's a complete false economy. Very worried about the links to Di Lorenzo. We either need to get Spence in, find an alternative that is actually a good fit or stick with Doherty and Royal who can be coached.

You can’t replace Dembele.
Thing is we never replaced Carrick but we did get Modric soon after, we couldn't replace Modric but then Dembele came good. Its never really been a matter of replacing like for like.

Yes way.

In terms of giving us someone who fits most of the key base attributes criteria of a top wingback:

Fast
Tall and Powerful
Strong Dribbler, capable of beating players on the run or from a standing start
Quick Feet
Consistently driving forward at high intensity

There are quite a few players out there for wing back who struggle to beat a man on the outside, just like Doherty and Emerson. We need someone who can burst past their man on the outside down the flanks, which Spence is probably the best at, along with Frimpong.

He has the height, pace and the strength to become dominant down the flank too, which hardly any of the available options have.

Name an alternative who has all of the attributes I listed and is tall, very quick and powerful?

The only potential option would be Singo and he's actually a lot more raw than Spence in terms of his touch and finesse.
I think Molina is an interesting option. Very productive in the final third although he's not explosive.

Yeah, I would have to agree that Spence is probably the best option at RWB for us.

He's homegrown which also helps massively.

There's just such a shortage of top-class RWBs.

If you have ever followed Conte's career, it doesn't take much working out to know he will be fuming.
I think you only have to go back to january and see that this could very likely not be as dramatic as you are making out. We made no signings until the end of the window and conte kept on saying he understands as its very difficult. When we looked weaker in terms of numbers but bought in kulu and bentancur there were talks he would he so upset at the window he could walk and he came out and said he felt the squad was actually stronger, which was proved right.

we are almost 2 mths from the window closing and made 4 signings which are top class and spent almost £100million and we are actively pushing for more. I think conte will be happy with our ambition and understand why we arent being held to ransom for a kid who has had a good season but is still a gamble of sorts if we expect him to he a first team player. Yes he would like him in for saturday but at the end of the day he a few more days here or there aren't the end of the world, or if we are being screwed we move on.

I am really happy with the business we have done so far but Conte is a very hard man to please and at the end of the day, we still haven't addressed the two starting 11 positions which were the most urgent going in to this window, LCB and RWB.

If we get them in for the tour then that's fine but if we don't, I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear talk that Conte isn't too happy.

Nick is just projecting what he thinks and wants, into what Conte thinks and wants. Nothing to worry about at all as things stand.
