I’m not overreacting because we lost a pre season game, but our summer transfer window should’ve been better

RWB is crucial to Conte system, Spence is young has the potential but we should’ve splashed the cash on Hakimi

Lenglet can’t be our only CB signing. We need one more

We desperately need a creative midfielder, we all could see that last season but we haven’t solved that issue

Still days in the window so hopefully we address some of them

If this was true then you wouldn't have posted it literally seconds after we lost a match in pre-season

It’s something I’ve been thinking about and the season starts in a week. If I overreacted I would’ve said our window has been bad etc but our window has been good, I’m just saying it should be a bit better. Especially with all the warchest talk

Fair enough. Yes it could have been better but it's never going to be perfect and it also isn't over yet; the centre-back and creatively minded midfielder that we all agree we still need could - and I suspect will - come. It would've been nice to have them in already of course but we've signed 6 players already (more than anyone else, I think?) and I'd argue that the centre-back in particular isn't even a priority given it's a backup position to Dier, so really we're going into the season 99% there - in this summer of all summers I find it really difficult to complain.

Take yourself to bed mate. No point in continuing to embarrass yourself.

The window has been excellent and is still open. We have added quality in Perisic, Bissouma and Richarlson. Depth in Leglet and Forster. Not to mention talent in Spence.

there are still a couple of weeks left too ffs

Well, we’ve spent 100m and how much better is our preffered starting 11 over last seasons? We’ve improved our bench no doubt.
When we have everyone fit and everyone on form we have a team capable of beating any team in the world. Could we improve in certain positions? Yes we could.

However, our bigger problem arose when those 11 were not fit or not on form. The players we brought on were lower quality. So the signings we made were mainly strengthening our ability to maintain a high level regardless of who is out/dropped.

So have we improved our starting 11? yes we've improved our starting 11 for those matches when our first choice are unavailable.

I’d imagine we are waiting to offload a few now before we buy , I’m amazed the RWB issue hasn’t been addressed when u consider how important that role is in a Conte team . Perisic and bissouma will come into the team to improve our first 11 from last season but we lack a real creative player ( albeit Kane can drop deep and play it ) but I’m also disappointed we haven’t been linked with any strikers , at present our game changers on the bench are Lucas , richarlison and Gil . Still a month to go in the window and hoping for 2 more in those positions

Perisic alone improves the starting XI

But, you seem to overlook that the "Starting XI" can't start every PL match, let alone cups and CL matches. Because of the players we added this summer - our starting XI will be stronger for all the matches - by allowing rotation and competition.

Conte Post-Match Comments:

You've been unhappy with pre-seasons in the past, what did you change about this one to ensure you were happy with it?

First of all, the most important thing is that all the players, except Oliver Skipp, have trained and trained well. In this moment we have two players, Ivan Perisic and Doherty, they have to continue to work and reach the peak of fitness because after a long injury they are struggling a lot. We need to have patience.

But today it was positive to give them a lot of time to play again for Matthew and Ivan. Bissouma is also a player who has to come into our idea of football.

I’m happy for Lenglet, for Clement, because he came in with personality. We need a player to play, to play with personality, to have the quality to play football, also to attack. It was positive.

It’s positive that Ben Davies has recovered. I didn’t want to take a risk today because we have another week to work and to bring him in the best physical condition so he doesn’t feel pain in his ankle. Now he feels a bit of pain. He was ready to play today but I didn’t want to risk it.

Richarlison I liked a lot the way he impacted the game. We need this type of player. Richarlison to start the game or go into the game, he can have a big impact. For us it’s very important. We need him behind Sonny, also Kane and Kulusevski. He is an important player because we have a lot of games to play.

For sure to finish with a loss is not good but at the same time it can help us keep our feet on the ground for the environment, for the people inside and outside the club. Then to understand we have to be humble and to continue to work.

This season I think we can be competitive in every game to try to fight. You don’t know what will happen at the end of the game but we have to start the game with the hope to get three points.

How important was it getting Ivan Perisic in personally for you?

He's an important player because he's really good. He moves forward, good in one v ones, and then he can use both feet and he was before a winger which us why he's good in one v one.

But he has to continue to work because at this moment he's not the Ivan Perisic I know. That is normal though, but I'm happy because he reduced the time to recover from his injury.

It was the same for Matthew, for Doherty. I hope to see him like last season and now he's working and he's struggling. We need to have patience. We need to give time for these players to be really fit.

It will be very important for us, but then we have Sessegnon, that is a guarantee, also Emerson is good. There is the new player Spence. He is a guy who has to work a lot, because to go into Tottenham it's different in the Premier League with Tottenham but in the end I'm happy.

I'm happy because we've finished the pre-season and we want to start the season and have important games to get three points.

Yes we have.

You seem to think of starting 11 as a fixed set of players that will be the same from game 1 to game 38. Whereas it's not. A starting 11 will change throughout the season based on form, fitness, injuries, development, more signings and sales. It's not a fixed thing.

Compare the starting 11 at the start of last season to the end and you'll start to understand.

Every week our starting 11 is guaranteed to be stronger because of the signings we made.

Clearly, you're talking about the 11 players that you think should start every single game rather than our starting 11

Dude. I’m seriously not picking on you. But we all know our best starting line up!! Every team has one. Why you think we’re different is strange. Liverpool has a strongest line up as has city. Ours picks it self like it did the last 9 games last season. Simple as that. Only way it’s improved on is if any of those players fit better or are better. Keeper ain’t better. Back 3 ain’t better. Bissouma is better but it depends on who conte plays him with. Perisic is an upgrade. Everyone else is just a better back up option.

Dude. I'm seriously not picking on you. But you just acknowledged that two players in your starting XI are better this year than last.

So, by your own definition - Spurs improved.

But, you don't win championships or trophies with 11 players - it takes a squad, and we have unquestionably improved the squad - thus improving our chances at winning a trophy this year.
