Its not the technology, its the incompetence of the officials in determining intent
Said this for years.

Technology means nothing until you have people that are capable of making the right decisions. The standard of officiating in today's game is absolute toilet.

Fucking referees. There needs to be such a massive overhaul of refereeing that I don't think it can ever be fixed.

Incompetent from top to bottom. It has to be Incompetence or its corruption plain and simple.

It isnt corruption but purely incompetence.

What im slightly confused by is it was VAR that said 'hey ref - you may want to look at that, we think it is handball' - like what was VAR themselves doing.

Halfway through now and I'm still not hugely intimidated by the competition. There's matchwinners for Brazil and France but the former struggled today and the latter are missing key players (particularly in centre mid IMO). Argentina have looked so poor, I like the Dutch but they're proper odd, Portugal are not going far unless they get more dodgy decisions. The best two teams I've seen are Morocco and Spain and realistically only Spain will challenge. They're the favourites now IMO,

From the law makers own presentation.

This subjectivity is bordering on the ridiculous if that's a penalty, where the hell is he supposed to put his hand ? If he doesn't put his hand down to break his fall the player sustains an injury.
Dont disagree mate. As others have said 'The law (is still) an ass.'
But it is the law. And these Refs know that if they dont follow the letter of the law, no matter how mad and insane it may be, they'll be dragged over the coals for it.

By some accounts, it's not actually the "law" though. In fact, according to many, it's completely opposite.

It seems like its up for grabs alright. Brazil and France look in control and have some flair in attack. But the tournament is still there for an England or Germany to get stuck into and write their own story. Honestly, if England's players could realise the solid structure and baseline competence that Southgate has installed is a *floor* and not a ceiling, then they could really go far. That front 3 or 4 of England's need to stop hiding behind the wall of criticism that inevitably comes for Southgate (when the team is stodgy and gets beaten) and step into a once in a lifetime opportunity.

It’s not the law.
the image above published by ifab shows the exact situation for “what is not handball”
So how the officials were able to justify the decision needs investigation.
Those that don’t want to see corruption need to provide a bit more evidence I feel because you cannot explain that decision away

Selfishly, I'm hoping Ghana beat Uruguay in the next round of games, which will mean both Bentancur and Sonny get 3 weeks of rest before our next game on 26th Dec.
Same story with Australia- Denmark in Group D, anything other than a Denmark win = 3 weeks off for PEH

Hehe are you hoping for extra rest for Dier and Kane too?

Bentancur is suspended against Brentford (yellow cards accumulation) so will get an extra week anyway. Bissouma should be nicely rested and hopefully he can prove that he can work well in a midfield two.

Ronaldo "charming" as always... still claiming he touched the ball for the first goal although Adidas can prove he didn't. With the build in chip in the ball. ?‍♂️? ...

Its there up for grabs but I do think Southgate also needs to let go of the leash. To be honest players are also partly to blame because sometimes they need to take it upon themselves to go you know what - push up 20 yards higher. So I take the point its also the players.

France and Brazil are the favourites but we are not that far behind and if we can have Kane more in the box coupled with Southgate growing a pair - we can win this.

Hojberg? You can't be seriously thinking Australia will get a result against Denmark!
After seeing Denmark struggle to score against Tunisia I wouldn’t put it past the Aussies getting the draw they need to go through

Kicking myself for not being more ambitious and saying they could beat them rather than just get a draw

Last night I was about to bet for both Australia and Tunez, and at the last minute I decided against it. So I get you?

This third match drama we've been getting has livened up this tournament. Hopefully more of the same tomorrow with this group and the other one having all three teams still in with a decent chance.

I think it's incredible that Suarez is starting today. Not just for 2010 but he hasn't been any good for any team in the last 18 months and has looked lost in the first two WC games.
