Looking at those players today - not 1 has progressed in a year. Not saying it’s all contes fault, but as one of the best paid managers in the world, he should be doing more with those players.

I can't take many of the comments in here seriously. At the start of the season dozens and dozens in here were highly satisfied that we had a top 3 squad....that Arsenal would be lucky if they got 6th.

Some said we hadnt done enough in the last window. I remember being underwhelmed. An attacking midfielder was a must then too. Well here we are with zero creativity and stubborn manager who can only play 343.... gosh we are as predictable as we were under Poch in his last 12-18 months.

I'd be shocked by that. First 11 when fit, agreed. But the squad was still severely unbalanced and light

But Dyche doesn't play a similar style and has different types of defenders.

They are "backs to the walls" players, if they played Conte's system they'd make even more errors than our current crop do.

Let's talk about Lloris, as well.

Lloris has ALWAYS had these mistakes in him. Every coach we've had hes made the same mistakes despite not being under pressure.

Dier too.

Every defence in this league makes mistakes - the issue is, we dont force these mistakes on teams before they force them on us.

Hugo - no excuses today, should have had that clearly. Did we have any shots, did we make any chances to force a defence that had their reserve keeper on show and their first choice right back on the bench?

Brentford? only at 2-0 did we cause them issues and them making mistakes...

Look at Arsenal yesterday - Saliba messed up, but they were 4-1 up by then.

Every team and defence makes a mistake, we just dont force and cause the other team to make them. So this whole our defence makes mistakes, yes they do and we need to improve the quality of that back line but lets not suggest that this is why we are constantly behind before we get started and that other teams have awesome defences. How many defences can we say are that good? not many.

This is the crux of it for me, it’s bad enough watching this negative shite we are served up week in week out. But the big shit sandwich galloping over the horizon into view is the cold hard fact that within maybe four or five years the premier league will be a two horse race between two foreign oil states with reprehensible human rights records. You list the other big clubs, but they don’t stand a chance either. This is chicken feed to the Saudi’s and UAE. They’ll want to make sure that they don’t lose out to one and other in the bragging rights.

What’s the point in anyone else bothering?
This is a great point. Why do you think the owners of Utd and Liverpool want to sell up. We don’t stand a chance under the present ownership. I’m nearly at the point of cancelling Sky. At least I would hope that Spurs would be entertaining. They’re not!

So what happens in this scenario.
Lose to Palace, Arsenal and the two City games in our next 5.

Would that be time up for Antonio?

I feel something has really gone wrong in dressing room of late.
I couldnt see Conte shouting instructions much either - its almost as if he is not bothered. So, are the players, played like they are not bothered.

With Conte’s blessing (I.e not Spence). I also doubt Royal and Gil would’ve been approved by Conte
I don't get why we spend money on these players. So many punts in the hope that something sticks.

And one that he apparently accepted as we needed home grown players
Did he have a choice then? The club knew it had an issue here long before Conte arrived.

My point still stands, I’d trust Conte to get the signings right over anyone else (in terms of signing off on them).
Our recruitment pre Conte & Paratici was woefully poor

The squad is not that bad. Not even close.

The number of jokers in this thread who are trying to say that it’s unreasonable to expect Conte to get more out of a team with Kane, Son, Hojberg, Bissouma, Peresic and Romero is unbelievable.

Can tell you for a fact that the people around me in the stadium today do not agree.

And even if you are someone who thinks the biggest issue right now is the squad, that sure as hell doesn’t mean Conte is the best person to try and rebuild it, unless we want constant tantrums about the fact he has to play some under the age of 40.

I’ve got no patience whatsoever to watch him continue this “will he, won’t he” bullshit, make a decision and get on with fixing the fact our system has been completely figured out after last season.

No idea. I can't imagine what Levy is thinking because even though he could perpetually ride out these failed appointments, it's pretty embarrassing if he does sack him.

Conte has to carry the can for the way we are playing at the moment…..yes the squad isn’t good enough but there’s no way those players should be putting in a performance/performances like they have been. If Levy wants him to stay then back him to the hilt and some, starting right now, if he doesn’t then say goodbye right now. And then, Mr Levy, if goodbye is the case go and stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself that you’ve done all you can and it’s time to go, enough is enough…..

But many of us aren't asking for that, we want to see ambition, so if we have to spend 80m on someone like Gvardiol because he's our no.1 choice, you do that.

You don't try to get to the next stage by signing the likes of Rodon at 14m or Lenglet on loan.
TBF, there is still a large proportion of the fan base, me included, can be quite against spending that sort of fee on one player, as we often think perhaps there can be 2 possibly great players we could get for that sum. But if our owner can have that kind of balls to do that, I'm sure we will slowly and happily accept that.

Ultimately what I'm saying is it's still a culture to be cultivated from the top down to the fans and its quite obvious under decades of ENIC, we have become very prudent in our requests - we really are not asking much if Maddison could be had for £45m last summer or Porro for ~£38m this winter.

Yes of course it is Palace is a must win now. Doesn't change the fact he isnt the problem with this football club

The record revenues the club are about to post. We arent in the old WHL anymore. This club is very rich and it can spend money if it chooses to do so.
Ahem! There’s also a huge stadium debt to service!

If we are that rich, why was a £150m cash injection required in the summer?

I’m not saying we don’t have money to spend, just not the bottomless pit a lot on here seem to think we have!

we're still a rich club with great infrastructure, there's no reason why we can't be "good" again.
The feeling I have now is similar to the end of AVB/Sherwood, possibly even the beginning of Poch (the Hull/Villa games we were dreadful.).

But somehow things came together and we quickly competed again.

Arsenal fans have been feeling the same these last few years. Miles off challenging, probbaly thought those days had gone.

It only takes a few things to come together.

The issue is ENIC and some of us fans are losing hunger to believe in the club.

They'll probably stumble on a good situation.

What is a major issue IMO is that the club have never stuck with similar coaches.

When Poch left, the club should have found a coach of a similar mould for continuation. Even if that appointment failed, we wouldn't have had to make major changes and wouldn't have been left with a mish mash of high intensity press/tactical players, we'd have continued bringing in young talent.
