People saying they’d rather have a project manager. Poch is the definition of a project manager. I agree that if we depart with Conte, we will finally have to rebuild. I’d appoint Poch for that.

We absolutely should just back Conte, but if we part ways with him I’d like to see a new generation under Poch. Kane probably wants out anyways so we’ll likely sell him and bring in a new young forward to play Poch’s brand of football. Don’t forget we were reportedly chasing him in Summer 2021 alongside Conte

Also - we just need to back Conte

Sorry for the bump.

I do feel it is a mater of time though so may need to get use to the idea of his return.

I was thinking about players who were here that have improved since he left and under which coach they improved under. Only going to focus on ones who played relatively frequently.

Lloris = Regressed gradually.
Gazzanigga = Regressed or found his level.
Walker = Improved under Pep.
Trippier = Improved his defensive game under Simeone.
Vertonghen = Regressed but probably age.
Toby = Regressed.
Sanchez = Stagnated and never kicked on.
Dier = Regressed.
Rose = Regressed massively.
Davies = More or less the same.
Tanganga = Regressed.
Walker-Peters = Improved slightly.
Foyth = Improved under Emery.
Dembele = Retired
Wanyama = perma-crocked
Sissoko = Regressed.
Alli = Regressed majorly.
Skipp = Stagnated (lads not had much chance to be fair)
Ndombele = Did not live up to expectation so hard to state.
Winks = Regressed.
Eriksen = Regressed whilst Poch was here, stagnated and then returned to his level slightly elsewhere.
Kane = Improved - adapted
Son = Improved - adapted
Lamela = Regressed

Why did I do this?

Well, I wanted to get an idea of how many players went on to a better career post-Poch.

I'd say that Kane and Son stand out as they took their game to another level as they either adapted their game or just got better.

Walker got better under Pep, although I wouldn't say it was a major improvement. Trip too under Simeone.

Foyth and Eriksen went on to win and still perform at a high level.

But the rest kind of either stagnate, regress or drop down to a smaller club.

Therefore, if we are going back to Poch, we need to be well-prepared for a drop off after 4/5 years and ensure that the squad is consistently refreshed whilst being prepared to sell some players.

For example, rumours were United wanted Dier, Jose tapped him up. Dier was never a key ingredient to how well we played. He was simply a cog in the machine, if United were prepared to pay 50m then you have to consider how that can improve the team, we could have easily replaced him AND brought in Dembele's successor.

I'd hope that if Poch returns and he says, for example, "Bissouma has reached his limit, we can sell" that Levy listens to him and brings in the new blood.

Selling an important but not vital player every 2 years or so whilst ensuring successors are already in the door or are lined up is healthy to freshen things up and ensure things don't get stale.

Hmmm see I think Poch back makes sense under a new regime with a new set of players.

Going back to the squad of players who gave up on him and got the sack, players like Dier and Davies who are somehow starters now but were on the bench when he left. Not forgetting the likes of Winks, Ndombele, Lo Celso will all be back and be treated like "new signings". A recipe for disaster.

Having a manger who loves this club feels good enough for me to get behind it. It’s a massive out for levy and I hate it but I need something to like about this club right now.

I do think it is too soon personally. Love the man and think too many are writing him off overall but I do think there needs to be more than sentiment to our next appointment.

With that being said, if he is the man who's coming in and there is no recruitment process needed. Just bring him in now, use this season to adjust to the change in system/style. I do think it will be a lift to the club and arguably our best chance of CL qualification. Also means we are not using the summer and next season to evaluate the squad.

When he doesn't use pressing style it doesn't look good. Can't see him dropping Son for Danjuma or pushing Kane deeper (who wants Shearer's record). Deki and Richy paired with one or two attackers that press would be fun to watch though.

We forgetting him lifting his skirt up for United and Madrid whilst he was with us?

I’m ready for him to come back
I’m not. We need a coach, not a trainer. The only skill Poch has ever shown is the ability to get a young squad working at intensity levels that other teams can’t match, and using that to promote a high press. But even then, other teams worked it out years ago, and our squad burned out, so fuck knows what anyone thinks he’d bring to us now. We need a coach who’ll bring us the new paradigm before the rest of the league catches on. A tough ask, best we can do is toss a coin.

The problem with Poch coming back is when it doesn't work it will be the manager who gets the blame again and SC will be full of posts like "I knew he should never have come back" and the real culprits - those in charge of recruitment will be let of the hook again. Woolwich backed a bloke who had won something like 1 in ten games a couple of season's back - we rinse and repeat managers.
