All of that would be great with Conte if he didn't set us up on the pitch to sit back and let teams bully us.

I'm not saying we should, or even could go out and pass teams off the park or swashbuckle our way around the pitch for 90 minutes.

But the timid way he sets us up week-in-week-out isn't the hallmark of an ambitious winner for me.
Spot on.

Tbh football is always changing and even since Poch was our manager the game has evolved a lot and now in football and in most other sports it very much pays to be proactive and assertive.

The tactical and technical and fitness and analytical levels of teams and athletes is so high now that the days of sitting back and counter punching to exploit the opponents mistakes or space are gone, if you do that these days you’re just asking to be beaten.

Trix do you think it’s come to the point where even if he is backed to the extent he himself requires, people (match-day going fans) won’t tolerate his idea of football anyway?

It really is a dismal day out at the moment.
Think this question is the crux of some of it tbh.

m the style isn’t the easiest on the eye, so when we don’t win, it’s looks even worse.

mid we are winning, and challenging for titles (semi-finals and pushing the top of the league), it’s more tolerable I guess

They not normal employees tho.

Everyone, no matter what industry they are in, wants to think that their company/ employer has their back. if levy doesn't sack Conte and instead keeps him on knowing that he won't be staying past the summer then it would hardly be a big jump to think that a number of players will see it as the club not protecting them.
Regardless of whether someone thinks Conte is right or not, it's a terrible move potentially pissing off your most valuable employees.

Jack Pitt Brooke from Athletic is firmly of opinion that he's gone. Obviously he's just a journo etc etc but imo he is a good one and has some knowledge of the club.

He clearly stated that his views are based on “speculation” and not rooted in any “knowledge”

but football has changed whether you like or not winning the League Cup or FA Cup is nice and a decent day out for us all but the emphasis is on finishing top 4 thats where football has gone not just Tottenham how we all celebrated beating the lot down the road just last season to qualify that was supposed to have been the biggest North London derby since the Gazza game - I agree we ought to be making more of an effort in the cups and not sending weakened side sides but that's modern football the cups don't have the same meaning anymore so being a cup side soon loses its appeal -

Firstly look at playing decent front foot posession based football that entertains people
Great post and I agree with all of this but to add to it cup wins are still important because sport will always be about winning and the longer we as a ‘big 6’ club don’t win a trophy the more it will be used as a stick to beat us with.

Top4 is likely more the focus from our owners which then unfortunately filters down to the manager and squad but the fans will always be extremely disappointed when we lose and go out of any cups so they should still always be taken seriously and if we have a big enough squad we should be able to regularly make QF’s SF’s and some finals in the domestic cups, no excuse not to.

We finished 4th last season and we are 4th now so in tennis we’d be 4th seeds at Wimbledon, we’ll the 4th seed player should be regularly making the semi finals of not occasionally going one better and making the final.

Contrasting views coming out now with trusted people who definitely would know certain things.

We’ve got Trix and Fabrizio Romano saying he could very well stay and then on the other hand people like Jack Pitt Brooke and Paul O’ Keefe suggesting the writings on the wall and are fully expecting him to go this international break.

What a mess and complete shambles we’re in, don’t know our arse from our elbow.

We literally are the laughing stock of English football .

Mate I don't know. I think a winning team is easier to like and we were far from boring back end of last season.

I genuinely don't know how this ends up. Saturday evening I thought he was gone. Sunday morning he met with Levy and he wasn't going.

I expected the players to pile in on him and some have gotten behind him. I've then(and I know this as fact) heard a prominent figure with Daniels ear has told him to ignore the media and get behind him fully, as this cycle needs to be broken.
I want to believe. I want to believe that "this time" DL and the board would decide to stay the course andstop dicking around and back (not just with money but intent, change their lastminutedotcom random punts etc) the guy they chose. Then we can see where we are in another 18 months.

But my heart is too shriveled and blackened for hope anymore.

Be nice if it happens. If not, see you all back here in 2 years when the next guy gets yeeted.

EDIT: I can understand people being unsure that Conte is the one to break the cycle with. He's hardly a long-term prospect at the cubs in which he has had a large amount of control after all.

Brilliant idea mate 😂👏 would love to see this.

Right lads so Tuchel won 2 but lost his 3rd game and so for the next match we are flying Romero’s crazy uncle over to give it a go, once he runs out of wins we’re going to try and tempt that football manager kid managing in France to see if he fancies a go, after that I think Ben Davies mum said she’ll take the next match etc 😂

Would probably be more effective that the strategy Levy has come up with or not come up with since he fired Poch.

Ardiles go at it better be the TV game, biggest ratings of the season, "We don't need defenders at Tottingham"

Klopp has spent more than we have too. He got what he needed and they won things as a result. His squad was as bad if not worse than ours was when Conte arrived but they backed him. We're in the top 10 wealthiest clubs and we still don't splash in the window. Every window doing the minimum and looking for the best bargains. We have the resources but we don't have the ambition to use them to win titles.
For Liverpool to “back” Klopp they had to sell their star player.

Agree mate so even if we do back him significantly, how he makes it from now until the end of the season with the toxic cloud that has been created will be astonishing, the fans absolutely hate going to watch us play at the moment as you say it’s a dismal day out.

It’s just all so messed up isn’t it.

If we were serious about Conte the last summer or this Jan we should’ve signed him a top top CB or 2 and we should’ve tied him down to a contract extension, if we now suddenly do this next summer it’s all a bit too little too late isn’t it, any momentum that was built up at the end of last season has well and truly been extinguished.

Isn't every view this? Unless you're Levy or sit on the board you're only getting second and above hand info and the more hands it exchanges the less accurate it becomes

Very true.

So if this summer we somehow still have Conte in charge and we sell Kane for £100mil, we bring in Bastoni, Gravadiol and a half decent striker (Toney, Watkins etc) and play Richy as our starting n.o9, do we think we’d be better overall next season and would that be enough along with Udogie coming back for Conte to have what he needs to consistently get us playing watchable football next season and challenging for the league?

I just can’t see it personally unfortunately

I don’t disagree. But most employees aren’t assets worth multi multi millions. Sad and True.

To be fair to Perisic he usually has Sonny of the left side who is also required to track back for defensive duties when opposition are attacking but hasn't made a tackle since November 2019.
The flip side is Perisic takes so long to get the ball to Son and get forward to support that Son end up losing the ball because he had no overlap. That's honestly not a dig at Perisic, just the ridiculous importance his role has and how difficult it is.

Son needs a proper DM to help cover him. That's when you get the best of Son.

It will be like selling Keane and Benatov

We will have sold our best players and gone backwards

None of these people work at the clubb or have direct involvement in the decision making process though so of course it's all over the place

It sounds like I'm standing up for the board and Enic but I'm not and want them gone. But let's criticise the actual things we have evidence of as there's plenty.
