Interesting ITK from WLB considering we were linked with him (and Laporte) way before we appeared to settle on Ange. I like Maddison as a signing in a vacuum, but would want to know that he'd fit in Ange's system (as one of the more advanced 8s or on the wing that cuts inside).

My concern with being linked with the same targets is that it suggest we may have the same disjointed approach between manager and club that has caused us to allocate spend inefficiently over the last few windows.

19 goal involvements in 30 matches this season for a relegated Leicester. They scored a total of 51 goals so Maddison was involved in 37% of them. I honestly think the guy would be class for us under Ange. He would bring us some quality from set pieces if Perisic was to move on and he's someone very different to what we already have. From a brief chat the other day with my source, it seems a real possibility that this could happen. Maddison, Raya & Laporte would be fantastic business. But we have a lot of deadwood to shift so let's wait and see.
Id be really excited with those 3 signings, a new spine which would transform us.

Knowing us far too good to be true and we would be lucky to even get one of them.

I'm not even sure I'd be jealous if Newcastle got him, just a bit gutted. I definitely rate him as a decent player either way but I want us to get him because he provides what we've so sorely lacked for years.

Of course he's not the only player who can provide what we're missing, but like most transfers, especially outside of the Premier League, there's an element of how well and how quickly an acquisition may adapt, if at all. You wouldn't really have that doubt with Maddison and that's where I can see the value in paying a little bit more for him.
I think if we miss out on him there's practically zero chance we sign a player in his position with close to his output. He's top class in that regard.

However, I do think that it wouldn't be the end of the world as he's not exactly brilliant off the ball and with Kane and Son getting on, maybe what we actually need right now is someone more mobile and tenacious in that position. A player more in the mould of the peak Liverpool midfielders under Klopp, perhaps.

WLB’s info earlier today mentioned that Ange has approved our pursuit of Maddison.

ironically the biggest flops were the manager's top choices

Whoever signs him, hopefully us, but whoever….I just want the agreed price to be low enough to cause anger and frustration to the Leicester fans. Im delighted they’ve been relegated, this would be a tiny little cherry on top!

Unfortunately it won't though, he will go for at least £40 million and it won't be us who pay it, we will prevaricate, piss around and low ball them with a £25million offer and we will know exactly who is behind that stupid strategy.... Newcastle will stump up the readies no messing about and we will be left holding our todger saying we tried......

Advanced 8s that operate in half spaces and create/arrive late to score goals

Gutted to hear it won’t likely happen. He’s exactly what we need.
People moan we don’t sign prem proven yet everyone is clamouring for a kid who has no prem experience over maddison. If we go into next season with our current cms and no attacking 8s we will struggle. No doubt Scott is a great talent but I highly doubt he’s ready for the prem already.

We also have a manager who demands work rate and dedication, neither lol celso or ndumbelly will pass the test, both had their chances time to move on.

Can we cut it out with the name calling? We're not insecure kids in a schoolyard, are we? Let's talk about people with respect. It doesn't matter if you think he's lazy or whatever, you don't know the man and the reasons he is as he is. It's getting tiresome, really.

Who said it wont happen ?
Fact that national press is reporting we are negotiating this week, is good enough for me to be optimistic.

If we sign him, we are getting a huge upgrade in the XI. If we dont sign him, that sucks but atleast we can get 2 other bodies in, instead of just him. I prefer we sign him and make a statement in this market.

Why do we still have this narrative when we recently paid £60m for a back up striker and £45m for a right wing back?

We need to buy first to get our targets then work on selling who we don’t want.

Ridiculous the other way.

Also helps the players you sign get settled in and helps the show the ones you don’t want, they have been replaced and won’t get game time.

Its just a lazy narrative that we dont spend money.
Problem always been bad scouting & bad recruitment and not spending. Yes, Levy does lowball offers in some transfers but not all the time.

Because as far as I know Richarlison and Porro were not in the last year of their contracts and in the case of Porro, the selling club were in a strong bargaining position.

With Leicester being relegated and Maddison having only a year left, I have no doubts that Levy will smell blood.

It worked once upon a time with the likes of cherry picking players from Leeds etc, but those times are long gone.

I highly doubt Levy had moved on from that scenario in his mindset.

Surely the fact that Newcastle are interested will be enough to show he’s not going cheap.

The others are right that this is a lazy narrative that has become tedious.

Raya, Laporte, Hatate and Maddison would be fantastic business with also Udogie coming in.

We could then look to shift the large amount of players that no longer deserve to be part of the squad.

Dependant on how much we recover in sales we could then bring in another CB towards the end of the window.

Well I guess we’ll find out. If he really is the top target for that position then I hope are serious about it and don’t piss about.

If he chooses another team over us then fair enough.

I really hope they can get this over the line - fully understand why theyre reportedly asking for £60m. He’s an elite player and very astute - as Kane is - understands gaining the advantage in the prem, which someone like Lee Lang-In, may not immediately.

Would love to see Madders link up with Kane. If it doesn’t get done could it be the fee?
