As much as one can ever tell with these things, this does feel like typical deal about to be done posturing from both sides. Brentford leak that Chelsea are interested (which is an easy leak as Chelsea are interested in every single player on the planet) and we leak that we're also looking at other options.

Both clubs know they want the deal to happen, in our case we want the player but there are other (probably less good) options out there. Brentford want the deal to happen but feel if they apply a bit of pressure they'll get a bit more money.

Unless Chelsea actually come with a serious bid within a day or two then clearly Brentford will need to close out negotiations with us.

I reckon this gets announced as a funtime Friday deal.

It is partly for optics, partly improving relationships but most importantly because we have a lot of fucking work to do this window and we need to get deals done so we can get on and do the next one.
