This guy is perfect for the adage:

"Better to let people think you're a fool, than speak and remove all doubt."

You have to admit he has a point though.

Otherwise how do you account for the fact that, if you ignore how many goals are scored, Arsenal have been scientifically proven with graphs to have won every game they have ever played?

There’s a Tarquin on the watch-a-long YT clips. He took his shirt off when the goons scored….still had it waving around in the air when Son got his second.

  • Looking forward to the North London derby today. I thought Spurs were at home for some reason, which would have probably been better for the neutral, but it should be an interesting game with Spurs starting better than many anticipated.
It probably is the best derby in the country in terms of obvious rival and things at stake. Arsenal have had the better of the most recent fixtures, but over the past 20 matches and 9 years they have both won 7 times with 6 draws.
  • If the country is the UK then naah, Celtic-Rangers. In terms of deep-seated local intertwined enmity in England - maybe
  • The North London Derby was amazing when Adebayour and Sol Campbell crossed enemy lines. Proper spicy back then.
    [emoji38]

Doubt we’ll ever see anything like that again
  • definitely think it’s one of the better ones in terms of quality, usually guarantees goals at either end and they’re generally cracking games.
but in terms of hatred/spicyness I wouldn’t put it up there with us and Sunderland, midlands derby etc. just a load of tories in the crowd chanting “Arsen-aww” or “come on you spurssss” with the occasional wanker sign chucked in.
  • Campbell was labeled “Judas” and got death threats, hatred to this day. It’s obviously fizzled since then, but there was nastiness from both sets of supporters.
  • None of them carried out the death threats though so they’re all talk imo.
  • I mean, I grew up with it here, from the late 70s. Choosing my words carefully…I think you’re wrong. For a lot of reasons - but firstly, it’s very much not just about what happens in the ground, and even on the day.
When I was a kid it was truly, truly nasty - in the ground, around the ground, everywhere. We’ve all seen a lot of people priced out of the game since Hillsborough…but we’re all still here. Just not necessarily sitting in a plastic seat singing “Guantanamera”.
It’s nasty and spicy. And the closer we are in standard the nastier and spicier it will get. You just might not see it on the Sky cameras.
  • Looking forward to this game, easily the most entertaining derby, the games tend to always be really good, especially from a neutral point of view*
Despite the good start from Spurs I can't look past an Arsenal win, at home their record against Spurs is excellent
*watch it be a 0-0 borefest after I've said this
  • What's with this North London forever shit,it's like singing Merseyside or South Yorkshire forever
  • Udogie is having a nightmare here

I’d haul him off if I was in charge
  • Arsenal have probably deserved that
  • That Saka celebration, haha
  • Spurs play so high risk man, people pressing everywhere leaving massive gaps.
  • Ange getting a lot of credit so far as a manager. But you can’t leave Saka 1v1 against a fullback that is not elite defensive. He is inevitable
  • Maddison has been a right prick so far
  • Viera with two fouls and mysteriously two injuries.
  • They had the easiest start iirc, the wankfest should have held up until they played someone of equal stature
  • Udogie again there, he won’t come out second half if he makes it that far without a red.
  • Should be 2, Maddison having a mare and Spurs look awful.
  • Maddison being class against the easier teams but going missing in the games that matter, shock that
  • Typical Spurs player in that regard
  • Spurs are a bit naive defensively but they are brave on the ball. Goal. Maddison and Son with that bit of quality.
  • Quality from Maddison
  • Brilliant from Madison
  • Sooner or later Maddison makes something significant happen
  • So wish we'd went back in for Maddison. Can turn a game on its head
  • He’s such a talented player
  • Spurs doing a good job of pushing him back the last 20 mins
  • Watching Arsenal-Tottenham. Gutted Maddison didn’t want to come here (or whatever the reason was). Tomy eye he is basically doing exactly what we are missing
  • That bit of class in the final 3rd
  • Agree with what we need but his ego is massive
  • Is that a bad thing? We need some swagger at the top end of the pitch
  • Spurs spent a lot of money too tbf. 5 new signings that are starting. Cheapest was £18mSpurs spent a lot of money too tbf.
  • Spurs got 100m for Kane. Spurs are interesting because they spent a lot on Johnson which I imagine is because they couldn’t get a striker in
  • Yes, he’s so effective in the tight spaces around the box. So often he seems to find a killer ball—often against the odds. Great engine too.
  • it's accidental but it stops a goal so has to be a pen
  • 2-1
  • Hahaha get in
  • Great game this
  • Maddison and Son link up again.I need one of these in my FPL team man
  • Maddison again
  • Maddison has completely transformed these lot. Baffled some on here were turning their nose up at him. He's exactly what we need.
  • Or maybe the manager has?
  • Really hope spurs bag a controversial winner.
  • Maddison's been good, but this is mainly down to Postecoglu
  • Maddison down with a bad one. That's why we didn't sign him
  • The North London Derby is always so good because it's the battle of the legends tbh, there's something in the water in North London.
  • Spurs looking good, I was hoping there position in the league was down to playing championship fodder like Sheffield United and Burnley but they are matching Arsenal today
  • That van den Ven is quality. Smooth, calm defender.
  • unfortunately looks like we’re going to have to accept spurs are good this season
  • Impressed with spurs there
  • They went out and bought a world class player and identified a manager who’d bring something different. Can’t begrudge them that. They figured out what was missing and changed it
  • Spurs looked they had a bit of backbone and courage there
  • Spurs look the real deal
  • Easy to forget that Spurs were in the top four at the time when Conte threw his tantrum and put their season on the skids. They do have some good players, and Maddison is a good buy for them
  • Bissouma coming in has made the biggest difference to me
  • Redknapp saying Maddison was like a hyena pounhing on Jorginho every time he got the ball

"just a load of tories in the crowd chanting"

Mate, it was you and your rivals up there who were dumb enough to vote Tory at the last election, not us and Asna.

But I'm loving that the consensus is the NLD is the best English derby out there. We should encourage that along with the other lot.

  • Ange Postecoglou oozes class and it's a real pity there are not more managers like him.
The more you read about him, the more you warm to him. With a likeable manager and the diving, cheating Kane gone, I'm scratching around for reasons to still loathe them. The Pigeon is an obvious one but given his recent mental health difficulties, he's off-limits at the moment (likely to be temporary). I guess there's Maddison. Have never liked him but I'd probably say different if he was one of us. That leaves the media - especially The BBC - who have fawned over Spurs for years when it was wholly unjustified. We'll never hear the end of it if they start being successful
  • James Maddison has been banned from driving his “red” car into the training ground.
    Theyre very evertonish sometimes
  • Most articles seem to be reporting it as a joke about the derby, long way to go before they reach everton levels of even having blue cones because orange is too close to the colour that must not be named.
  • I still remember an everton fan on radio saying he doesnt eat tomatoes
  • I like Ange
  • Hearing about him speak about his journey to Tottingham it made me bloody cry mate, you big great big galaahhhh … his dad was a blaaaaaaaaady unskilled labourer mate, they ate dandelions and baked beans as a kid mate
  • Hard not to like him, he comes across well. Being a massive red helps obviously
  • Normal service resumed. Still, I would like for Arsenal and Tottenham to finish 3rd/4th
  • Normal service being resumed at Tottenham would have had us losing that game as our record there is appalling.
6 games in and unbeaten whilst playing a decent brand of football.
  • Spurs will be more than happy with a draw against us and that’s what I feel like will happen
  • I don't think Ange will play for a draw, they will come at us, no reason not to with the confidence flowing.
  • It must be exciting being a Spurs fan right now- new manager, new direction with Kane gone, new attitude (those goals after Arsenal scored today seems to be a new thing for you). The manager seems to genuinely care and the players look rejuvenated, when it would've been easy to blame Kane's departure for any problems. I see them finishing top 4, and you know something... maybe even 3rd. I'm still not convinced Arsenal will have the legs to do both the league and the CL, where Spurs really look up for it this year.
  • Agreed --this is going to be a tricky one for us away. Spurs looking awfully strong right now. we need to break this pattern of starting slowly and giving the opposition an early advantage.
  • The mighty reds will end that excitement with a bump.
Reckon it's time for a vvd special.
  • The mighty reds will end that excitement with a bump.
Reckon it's time for a vvd special.
  • But the excitement isn't about the results, or at least the results are only topping up the excitement. They style of play, the attitude of the team and of the manager
  • That Brennan Johnson kid looks pretty decent
  • It must be exciting for you to see your team playing some nice football, after that shite served to you by Mourinho and Conte.
  • They have Bissouma, Son, Maddison who are as good as nearly any player in their position in the league, a couple good youngsters like Udogie and Sarr, and a manager who looks like is about to take his place as the best coach in the league outside Guardiola and Klopp alongside De Zerbi and Arteta, this isn't like Spurs under Conte or Mourinho, this is looking more akin to their time under Pochettino.
  • I like their gaffer as well - pretty soon, there aren't going to many interesting people left in football. Keeping an eye on these lot
  • It's annoying how much I like Ange, it clashes with my general disdain for all things Spurs
  • Same. Very hard to dislike him atm. The way he conducts himself is very different to most managers
  • I still want to dismiss Spurs as a flash in the pan. Guess next week will tell us quite a bit more about them as well as us. If we get through with a win it’ll answer a lot of questions about can we play without a ‘proper’ DM in the bigger away games. And we can call them all the usual names.
If they can play through us and cause some damage then maybe people will take them more seriously this season. Should be a good game.
  • Reckon once Maddison exits his little purple patch they might start to slide down that table...
  • Hard to call it a purple patch when he's been in excellent form for 18+ months now!
  • Yeah, he's been so excellent that his previous club got relegated. Haggis36 is right. Maddison will dissappear pretty soon ...
  • You’re normally right about a lot of things, and you’re generally correct and take sound positions, but this is just wrong …
  • This North London Forever song that they've suddenly decided to do is awful.
Who is behind Arsenal trying to reinvent themselves over the last few years?
  • Arsenal are battering Spurs here.
  • Saka celebrating like a lunatic just for Spurs to go down the other end and score straight away
    :lmao

Also Saka goes into the crowd exactly like Elliott did last week, no yellow
  • Bissouma was an absolute machine in the second half. No idea what the hell Conte was thinking leaving him out.
  • Was gutted we didn't go for Bissouma, although there was off field issues which might have stopped us going for him he's a top midfield player.
  • Bissouma is easily one of the best midfielders in the league, has everything you want from a DM

(Ange Thread)

  • Annoyingly seems like a decent bloke as well. Don't think I'm yet to disagree with a take of his.
Every manager is a great guy when the team is winning
  • I mean more his demeanor in press conferences. I think he handled the Harry Kane situation really well, the concussion topic with Romero well and other bits unrelated to performances on the pitch
  • Love the fact Big Ange is a football manager but also wouldn't look out of place working in a traditional barbers. Love this guy.
  • Great manager who gets his team to play very attractive football. Very likeable fella too, sadly. Feck him though, fecking Spurs ****
  • He’s very likeable ….a rare quality for a prem manager.
  • He's some man for one man
  • Despite being a Rangers fan I thought he was brilliant at Celtic and a class act too.
Annoyingly from a United PoV he has got Spurs playing some cracking football already. I think he will do mint there and rooting for him tbh, I really like him.
  • I really wanted him instead of Dyche. Looking like he will be an excellent appointment.
  • Very likeable. The bastard.

  • Yeah it's way too early to say anything definite about him. I think he's a good manager but he's proved nothing yet at Spurs. It'll be interesting to see how he does when he gets a few bad results.
However it must be an exciting time to be a Spurs manager. You know Ange will play attractive positive football and you no longer have the Kane saga in the background.
  • Class act.
  • What a great bloke
  • While he may seem like a good bloke, if you listen carefully you'll realise he's actually Australian
  • He is so different than any other manager I have ever seen, just seems so genuine
  • He's had a good 2 months at Spurs. Media love him, Fans love him.
Nice for the Spurs fans to have some positivity after the doom and gloom of Conte.
Enjoy it while it lasts, as in football it's always very fragile
  • Really mad that nowadays the framing is ‘Isn’t it shit that another team has got a manager I really like’.
  • I think Ange will do some great things in the game. He’s a really good bloke, and is clearly a decent tactician.
  • He’ll be gone by next Christmas but it’s nice that there’s someone likeable in the PL again
  • Ange has proved himself where ever he has managed and wants to play good attacking football, as an Aussie it is always good to see one of us perform on the wold stage.
He got Australia playing some good football and won us an Asian cup.
Only flaw I see with Ange is that he supports Carlton.
  • This.
He is a straight talker and Spurs and tbh the PL have needed that for some time. He has set expectations right from the off, and doesn't seem to be fazed by pressure.
They will have a bad run of form but key is whether Levy trusts him. The players have bought into his philosophy but I guess that's not tricky when you are used to uber defensive football. Spurs probably would've lost this game last season.
  • Really good start after losing Kane. I think avoiding that distraction which Harry Kane became on a yearly basis has been good for him to really set about making his mark on the squad. He's won wherever he's been so we'll see, but it's a very good beginning. I think it'll be quite hard for the whole season due to a lack of depth of quality options but you never know, they could ride the wave if they avoid injuries to guys like Son, Maddison, Bissouma.
  • Best manager in the world at the moment
  • Couldn’t tell if you was sarcastic or not but I wouldn’t go that far. Not even the best in the league. He’s doing a great job though and he’s another example of another manager that’s made their mark a lot quicker than ours has.
  • Once Bentancur is back the midfield will look a lot better for depth, was Spurs best player behind Kane when he got injured. If they lose Son or Maddison for any length of time they are cooked.
I don't understand how they got so much money for Kane and their bench is so so bad.
  • He places a lot of pressure on the front 3 to press relentlessly and as seen in Japan and in Scotland, he will generally take the front 3 off or at least 2 of the front 3.
His problem at the moment is the subs are nowhere near the level of what’s on the pitch. Going from Son to Richarlison is like going from Nesta to Maguire.
There is good enough options at full back.
They need another CB, Bentancur to return and another striker and wide forward. I’m afraid they will end up really good. I knew he would succeed but I didn’t think he would have this current squad playing anywhere near the level they are.
  • Elite coach.
  • Yet another evidence that you don't need years and tons of money to put together a side that plays good coherent football.
  • Very impressive manager and man. Would absolutely love to see him at Liverpool one day.
  • Grew up a Liverpool supporter as he's said in a number of interviews.
Still has a poster of Kenny Dalglish on his wall (probably).
  • If they're still up there and playing like this well into the New Year then maybe it'll be worth taking a bit of notice of them.
  • I've seen Spurs, and I'm impressed, but I've also seen it all before, so it's just a bit much hearing how great he is so early on.m I'd be excited if I was a Spurs fan, but I'm not, and so I am just seeing it with a more matter of fact way for where things are likely to end up
  • We are well off the pace so hope you lot check Klopp's momentum next Saturday
  • The thing is he has been doing this for decades.
Everywhere he has gone he has made a positive impact. Thats the thing people cant understand, he has been doing this a long time, he isnt some sort of overnight fad. Every single time he has stepped up a level he has made a positive difference
  • Quite refreshing as a manager (dunno if that actually makes sense). The contrast between him (cool, calm, collected) and Arteta (who looked like a monkey on steroids jumping about) on the touchline was hilarious.
There's also something about a fat manager in a suit that's an endearing throwback to yesteryear.
  • He was quite funny, then he took it upon his self to try and intimidate Kulu when he was going down the wing. Refs need to really start sending managers who can’t control himself off the pitch, there is no other profession where it is acceptable for a manager to act like that.
  • I was fairly impressed with how Spurs moved the ball around and played their way out of Arsenals pressure yesterday. Good stuff. They could be a real top four contender, which I certainly didn't expect.
  • Was looking forward to Ange vs Arteta, and the game didn't disappoint. Now looking forward to De Zerbi vs Ange
  • I believe every single player used by Ange against Arsenal had a different nationality, representing 14 different nationalities, 15 counting Ange himself.
Funny how there were times when people would say you need a team with a British core to build an identity. If there was even need to prove otherwise I believe the game yesterday did. Half of the team he used have even been new signings this season (7/14). That’s very impressive gelling over such a short time period.
  • Every Spurs manager starts off like this. Hugging ball boys and the like. Plus it’s always a new manager bounce by 6 games for feck sake
  • The new manager bounce theory would make sense if he was getting these performances from the likes of Lloris/Dier/Emerson Royal/Hoibjerg and the rest of the dross spurs have fielded for the past few seasons.
The fact that it's almost a completely new starting 11 tells me it's no fluke, Spurs despite their failings have been a better run club than united for almost a decade now.
  • True. I really like what has Postecoglou done with this Tottenham team so far. Maddison looks to me like signing of the season(in the PL, at least). Your players(midfielders, especially) are so much comfortable, better with the ball at their feet and are much more physical than ours. I was really envious watching Bissouma driving(carrying) with the ball through the pitch against Arsenal yesterday and just nonchalantly beating the press. I've been crying for a player like that at United for a long time - failure to recruit Frenkie de Jong really was a blow. And we still don't have that archetype of a player, which we so obviously, desperately need. Hope we will one day and I will be alive to witness it.
Instead of your technical midfield, we have what I call a hot potato midfield. They receive the ball and just release it immediately, like it's burning lava, often sending it long in search for Rashford. I would take Maddison over Bruno easily(they're gonna ban me on this forum potentially for saying that).
  • Been brilliant, loved his approach but I think they are getting a free hit at mo.

(Bissouma Thread)
  • He’s been imperious this season
  • Just saw the Spurs-Arsenal derby. Fantastic performance.
And it hurts to say it’s exactly
    What we lack in midfield
  • Roy Keane territory.
  • The new, old Caicedo. Impressive player.
  • Back to what he was like at Brighton originally to be honest. Taken it to another level though.
  • Best midfield performance I've seen in a long time. It was crazy that he wasn't starting last season.
  • Definitely looks like what we need. Physicality and passing ability, solid core together with Sarr for Spurs - we could do with a semblance of that to aid our pressing game..
  • His passing could be a little iffy while he was at Brighton, but he looks far more comfortable in that aspect now.
He reminds me a lot of Dembele at Spurs, the same ability to carry the ball through the press, good consistent passing, and defensively aware.
  • He’s so comfortable on the ball. Really fun to watch
  • Pure class today...
  • Closest to FdJ in term of press resistant. Feels like with him being PL proven, and actually a DM, we could have taken our chances. Shame we're too much an Image FC to actually make some controversial decision for football reason.
  • What on earth did Conte do to him?
  • His idiot manager last season didn’t play him. He is a better player than Caicedo
  • Hes a very good player. Of course you want to see how he would handle being at a big club, but he isnt at one yet
  • Said last summer that I think he’s a better player than Tchouameni when both were on the market and I stand by that. Bissouma for £25m was an incredible open goal for any team. Early last summer I had dreams of a Bissouma/De Jong partnership.
  • If Bentancur gets back to the form he had before his injury (Big if) that Spurs midfield suddenly looks top class.
  • Very much so. Bissouma, Bentacur and Madders is on paper a very balanced MF
  • The 25m or whatever he went for was always going to be a bargain. The 25m or whatever he went for was always going to be a bargain.
  • He's a cracking player
  • Brilliant footballer. Showing everyone how good he is now. Clear to see at Brighton.
  • I forgot where it was, but there was a random interview where Declan Rice named him in his Top 5 hardest premier league midfielders to play against, even over his boy Mason Mount (the interviewer explicitly asked about this exclusion).
If he continues on like this, it looks like this opinion will become more widespread.
  • You guys understand ball. Bissouma next to Casemiro would transform our midfield. Our recruiting needs to get better.
  • How long before one of the big clubs come calling if he maintains the kind of form he has at the moment?
A midfield of Bentancur, Bissouma, Maddison looks very solid.

I hate giving this guy airtime but fuck me, he watches football with his eyes closed.

What in the fuck is this, why do these little Twitter/youtube tactician virgins get air time ANYWHERE? probably think cos he’s won the league on football manager he’s the second coming of pep! Also, if he’s (I’m guessing a gooner) why has he got pep as his pic, absolute melt! Fuck me!

He forgot about Bristol Rovers vs City, Didcot Town vs Oxford City, and the Millwall vs Hank's American Car Wash XI derbies.

All widely acknowledged to be bigger than the NLD.
Not even Didcots biggest rivals.

Wantage and Didcot boys are raised to hate the other. The backstory rivals some real footballing derbies.
When Brunel was building the great Western Railway he wanted to go through Wantage. Lord Wantage didn’t want dirty stinky noisy trains spoiling his view so used his stroke to send it through Didcot.
subsequently they also build a dirty great power station in Didcot as well so they could get coal to it and all the residents turned into orks. Wantage, being in the shire remained lovely and rural (till recently having millions of houses built on it and filled with townies). It all became the inspiration for Tolkien to write lord of the rings.

@Jgplk1 thanks for that. Great read.

I know Ange is likeable but to read those words from a Rangers/United fan is just mind blowing.
Red Cafe is so popular, there's a good mix of fans on there. Those comments were from Utd mostly, but also Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle, Villa, and Liverpool.

Haha, fantastic opinion on what counts as nastiness. Players have to actually get murdered for it to deserve the label.
