January is always a struggle, we might find some Deki/Bentancur value somewhere perhaps, but I think the one thing we need is CB cover. I think as above Lloyd Kelly is probably the most likely, but we really need some quality, as if we lost VDV or Romero for any period there’s definitely a drop off in quality.

I think jan will hopefully present a time to carry on clearing out where we need to as well however, personally I’d still be moving on Dier, Sess and Lo Celso. See if we can get some money ready to press the button early or wait till summer.

Im not expecting an all action window with lots of signings though, totally get we need things, but the leagues can change so quickly, teams know selling a couple of their better players can start off a fall down the league with no time to replace quality.

Because even when Rodri is not playing he still doesn’t make the City team. At Spurs he’s going to get more chances with Bissouma needing rests, picking up cards and with ACN, possibly. Then next season we’ll very likely have European football and as such will need him to play most weeks.

Also his agent will be having a word in his ear no doubt, his agent being CAA.

I agree that he’ll play more for us then City but staying at City means he’ll win more trophies this season and Southgate doesn’t appear to mind him not playing so can’t see how it will negatively affect his chances of getting in the England squad. I think he stays until the summer and then leaves.

I hope I’m wrong and he comes to Spurs this January though.

It’s clear he has an issue not playing - stated it on national telly!

Who could we buy if not Philips who is a press resistant 6 who would come knowing they won’t start? It’s tough.
If we are still in the title race in jan I would just love levy to defy rhetoric and go big in jan.
Romano saying hojberg changed agents and has a lot of interest.
If we could move on Lloris, dier (I know we won’t), hojberg, maybe even Richie and go big getting in Kelly as Rotation, a 6 (open to suggestions if not Phillips), Neto/nico Williams and a striker like sesko, osimhen (I know it won’t happen but imagine swapping richie and money for him). Just push hard for the title

If we bought 1 more hybrid 6/8 like Bissouma and Bentancur it could work with the extra minutes we will have available next season with European football? Off the top of my head I can think of players like Bennacer, Anguisa and Lobotka who would fit that mould of a very press resistant midfielder who can play as a 6 or 8. All play in Italy, maybe the Don Fabio could work some magic again? I’d love Bennacer personally.

You don’t honestly think all that is a possibility in January?

iirc we were interest in Lobotka before he joined Napoli, but not sure if it was under Paratici

Personally feel he has the same limitations as Hojbjerg not really a 6 or 8. offers moments however, properly not even at Hojbjerg level so I hope we aim higher if Hojbjerg does want to go.

Yeah we were. I’m sure we’ve been credited with an interest in Bennacer in the past too but I can’t recall when exactly. Those 3 are the kind of midfielder I think we need. If we had Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr and Lobotka for example to cover 6 and 8 across 4 comps next season I think all of them would get plenty of minutes as Ange likes to make a lot of substitutions and you could play any combination of those 4 in the two positions in any competition and be confident there is enough quality.

Yeah agreed. I think one of those works perfectly then in an ideal world eze in in summer to rotate with maddison and sell
Gio.
Must be some talents in France that can do a job always is like fofana,
Kone in Germany looks good too

Safe to say we are going to be linked in January to some players who aren’t pulling up trees, out of favor, or who have some apparent faults to their game. It’s how we got Deki and Lolo. We are going to need to “hit” on at least one, if not two, transfers to sustain any fight for the top we may still be in.

I’m for sure interested from now until the end of the Jan window to see how these questions are answered:
-Does Bryan Gil seize his chance and show his talent and fit into Ange’s plans?
-Will Gio Lo Celso actually be useful?
-How do Richarlison and Brennan Johnson perform?
-Can we sustain the same performance level with Hojbjerg filling in for Bissouma now during the suspension(s) and then during AFCON? Will he stick around in January for us to really find out?
That doesn't even include new questions from possible injuries to the main spine of the team (the more irreplaceable players that are making our system really work): Vicario, Udogie, Romero, VDV, Porro, Maddison, Son.
The answers to these questions drastically shape the picture of our priorities in the window.

Let’s hope our recruitment team is all on the same page as Ange because I can’t imagine he can put the work in on recruitment he put in during the the summer. For some of these top shelf players we are going to have to be in a good position and pay some serious money to attract them away from their teams during the middle of the season. Have to always remember there are league positions and other people’s careers that depend on how the season finishes out.

I’m sceptical about the Phillips links. Is he that much different to hojbjerg? I’m not so sure. I think it’s obvious Ange wants ball carriers from midfield (even the defensive position) and so I wouldn’t be surprised to see bentancur share the Bissouma role. If we bring another midfielder in it will be more for the 8 position.

CB I think we will keep our options open. I am not convinced we will go back in for Kelly or chalobah who both seemed last minute window desperation bids. I suspect we will have another option lined up yet to be mentioned or go back in for Tosin from Fulham.

If Hojberg leaves I can see us moving for Douglas luiz especially now we have the ex villa sporting director at spurs .

he’s been linked before and is a proven premier league midfielder

would cost a lot though as his contract ends in 2026

I can remember the vast majority turning their nose up at this link in the past and saying Hojbjerg is better 😂 He’s absolute class.

I don’t think it’s outside the realms of possibility that Phillips could go to villa and luiz comes to us.
as you say, we’ve held an interest for a while and he also counts as hg I believe (from his time at city).
However if he did sign a new contract last summer this does make it less likely
