Did well last night, kept the ball well and a few nice incisive passes.
Seems to slowly be getting physically a bit stronger also.

Yeah, the Brennan Johnson thread has been all positive since last night.Do the young weedy guys get an easier ride than the units by Spurs fans?
Are we expecting the units to be good from the get go but Gil, Reggie etc have a free pass for 3 seasons? That’s what it seems like to me. Gil is clearly not at the level we need him to be.
If he gets mins then I agree but I just don’t think he will even make the bench when we are fully fitHe's happy, he's working hard when he comes on and we keep getting injury problems; think it'd be daft to loan him out.
Sounds like you are flipping your negative view on "young weedy guys" around and projecting it on others here.Do the young weedy guys get an easier ride than the units by Spurs fans?

I'm confused.stop bullying me.

Bit of that, and that Eric Dier left. It's like a nature abhors a vacuum thing, There's always one player who is the negativity lightning rod, looks like the next one is BJ.to be fair, he is playing consecutive games and getting 90mins regularly. that makes him a target for the standard abuse all our starting 12 get.
I’m talking about the peripherals .
only because Sessegnon is never on the pitch long enough for people to remember he plays for usBit of that, and that Eric Dier left. It's like a nature abhors a vacuum thing, There's always one player who is the negativity lightning rod, looks like the next one is BJ.
I thought he did well yesterday, I like his confidence and how he wants to be involved.
Offered more as a sub than BJ did during his game.
Not that I'm writing BJ off, but he could do with more of the drive Gil has.
I suspect Gil was a signing made by the higher ups rather than anyone on the football side of things.I actually thought he looked good when he came on yesterday. Moved the ball around well, full of energy, didn’t try to over do it. In general it was a more calm performance.
The issue is tho that yesterday Werner was clearly not fully fit and Johnson wasn’t playing well yet Ange didn’t bring him on until 80th min. Really we should have made an attacking change 10 mins earlier. Considering Gil only got 10 mins plus stoppage in a match where our wing options were severely depleted and the players on the pitch were struggling for different reasons there is a good bet he will see little to no game time when the likes of Solomon, Kulu and Son return. I mean he probably won’t even be making the bench let alone getting any minutes.
There is zero point in keeping him here imo if he’s not going to be getting decent minutes. It will only further stunt his development and lower his value. I’ve said it before but in general i really feel we have handled Gil’s development incredibly poorly since he arrived. We really haven’t given him any real chance to adapt to the league or build up any consistency. I mean Johnson has been here half a season and has more PL starts for us then Gil has in three seasons by a significant margin. You can criticise Gil for being too lightweight, trying too hard or struggling to adapt but the kid has 4 PL starts in 3 seasons… realistically what can one expect.
Unfortunately he is somewhat a casualty of a prolonged period of upheaval at the club. What new manager wants to deal with a young Spanish player who although skilled clearly needs time and support. He was and still is a project.
Yes there is another debate to be had if he would or will ever have adapted to the league, some people just aren’t right for it physically or stylistically and Gil could well be one of them. But what is certain we didn’t have any plan as to how to get him to the required level and instead just loaned him back to Spain when we realised he wasn’t ready. Even a loan to a lower English league if no PL team wanted him would probably have been more beneficial to him. Helped toughen him up.
So yes, unless Ange is going to start giving him more significant minutes, which I doubt, he should be moved on this window. Even a loan without option, whilst no ideal, would benefit him and us significantly more than him yet again twiddling his thumbs on the sidelines for another half season.
I thought he was clearly signed by Paratici who had scouted him previously. You can see there's a player there but may never happen in this league. It happens and to be fair his hit rate has been excellent overall.I suspect Gil was a signing made by the higher ups rather than anyone on the football side of things.
We got him for a fairly decent price and he was young...effectively similar to the Spence signing.
He's not a bad player but he was a bad signing and as you say best for all concerned if he moves on now.
