Lucky, or clever? He was actually lucky at first but then was excellent after he turned on it. If he loses that there they're in on goal. Good job it came off.
Risky for sure. I'm just not sure it's clever to take the risk at 2-0. It came off and we get a goal at the end but could just have been 2-1 with 10 mins to go. Not wanting to sound too critical but just saying it's only good when it comes off.Lucky, or clever?
That's the joy of football but it turned out to be a great bit of play so I'm going to give him credit for it.
I have a feeling that he's already been replaced, just that his replacement is finishing his season before joining us.When he's on the pitch these days he's usually one of our more progressive passers. He clearly buys into Ange's ideas. If we're going to move him on, we need to be bloody sure it'll be an actual upgrade.
I get your point but it does seem a tad critical to me.Risky for sure. I'm just not sure it's clever to take the risk at 2-0. It came off and we get a goal at the end but could just have been 2-1 with 10 mins to go. Not wanting to sound too critical but just saying it's only good when it comes off.
Most of football is reacting to the opposition. He gave the ball enough of a touch inside to react to being closed down and turn his marker. The real silky move for me is the dropped shoulder that sends the defender somewhere down the roadYou sense that the first touch wasn't entirely intentional but that he used it brilliantly and the drive forward, feint and pass were all beautiful.
Either way, nice one.
The turn was good but looked better than it was because the Villa player did what all players are told not to do and that is dive in. The feint to beat the man in midfield though was fantastic, and the Villa player completely fell for it hook line and sinker. You sense that the first touch wasn't entirely intentional but that he used it brilliantly and the drive forward, feint and pass were all beautiful.
Either way, nice one.
Have some of that you villa slags
100%. he fakes a long field-switch pass, which the defender leaps into try to block and then just calmly dribbles past. so effortless! Most of football is reacting to the opposition. As much as I respect him as a person and think he’s a good player, I think many players can only be happy as bit part for so long.An outstanding pro and very, very good footballer.
I'd gladly give him a beefy contract extension just to be a fringe first-teamer & basically continue doing what he's doing. Still only 28. But because of his mentality, he almost certainly wouldn't agree to that, given he'd be a starter for many (most?) CL clubs. Almost impossible to replace his level of quality for the job we need from his spot in the squad. Will be sorry to see him go.
