I still find it remarkable that Sanchez has been in our first team since pretty much the day he signed for us, when he was 21. I think that must be close to unprecedented in the PL (at least for a defender).

FB is such a technical position that I don't blame him for being overwhelmed today. Where you're supposed to be standing at any given moment, and the various angles you need to cover and worry about, must give you a total brain overload if you're not used to it.

Maybe you can argue he'll never be a FB - fair enough - but the idea of blaming him for today, or excessively berating him, seems wrong-headed to me.

People are battering him but I don't really see the point.

He had to play there in my opinion, correct call to put the one with more mobility and quicker out wider and your more experienced players with a bit more nous in the heart of the defence.

Yes he didn't look comfortable, it impacted his game and he had a tough afternoon, playing him at right back is clearly for an emergency scenario only. At least we learned something today. We move on.....

Yeah he’s clearly not a full back.

He wasn’t even that bad considering he didn’t get much help from the midfield
Was shaky at the start but improved as the game went on

Can't really fault him when he's forced to play out of position in an immensely difficult away match.

Yeah aint his fault that Poch decided he would be a better choice than our natural rb or instead choosing to go with a back 3. I eventually called my mates a bunch of ****s for calling him atrocious, literally first time for us playing RB and going against Aubamayeng ffs.

There must be something wrong with Aurier. Either nowhere near fit or heading out the door. How Sanchez could be preferred to him otherwise i'll never know.

Possibly, but I do think there was an option to stick Sissoko out there who's played there 2 or 3 times before and either play a back 5 or bring in Skipp alongside Winks. Don't think he would have been as easily skinned, he can compete for headers and at least offer a little bit of dynamism going forward.

Shouldn't be needed at RB, end of. And its hard to just come in play there, especially against the goons pace. But the amount of individual errors from him right now, is frightening. He's a good player, but looks like a liability at the moment.

Sissoko is still positionally awful whatever improvements he has made, his RB cameos from what I have watched have been some ok bursts forward with looking all at sea whenever the opposition have the ball. Plus we're so light in midfield currently I don't think that was an option.

A back 5 would have been shuffling more people about and just another person sinking into the backline.

Maybe Aurier could have been used, but he hasn't played a game for us since the Cretaceous Period it feels like, had no pre-season and who knows if he's actually fit and/or isn't lined up for a transfer. Sanchez pretty much had to play there.
