One down, twenty five to go!

One of the very few Premier League games that we played from start to finish this season, except for the last 10 minutes or so where you could see that the old defensive uncertainty had crept back in.

Our Captain stood up and was counted, but I will vote team effort as oppose to an individual

(I must say it really looked surreal seeing Mourinho on the lines coaching on our behalf)

Dele looking a bit more like his old self. Davies too slow. Deep inside Aurier there might be a player.
We badly need to fix the defence, the last half hour was looking a bit too Spursy for my liking.
I gave it to Dele.

The starters were all good, Dier grew into the game, the subs well not so much
Agree got nothing out of the subs. Dele transformed, Son and Kane put in great shifts. Much maligned FBs Davies and Aurier both did well. It’s an away win what more can you say!

Davies too slow? He spent all game prior to his injury pretty much playing alongside Toby and Sanchez, he had a very good game. It was clearly tactical from Mourinho to keep Davies back and allow Aurier to push forward.

Gazza - not much he could do on the goals, please with some quick kick outs
Aurier - took assist well, some good turns but still a rash moment early on could have cost a penalty
Alder - Not the miraculous return to his best some were expecting, antonio did well to sell him down the river for their 1st
Sanchez - had a decent game, lots to improve on and looking forward to Jose developing him
Davies - Pretty average, did well as an outlet through first half
Dier - Reminded me of the players who's dad used to coach my sunday league teams with his performance, lots to improve on but got to give him time to get up to speed
Winks - pretty average performance, few good moments, his corners showed why we need a Lo Celso/Lamela/Eriksen/Bruno Fernandes type
Dele - MOTM for me, great flicks, great tenacity, very happy with his performance and in a position I'm thrilled about
Moura - took goal well, few bright moments, turned himself into danger a lot, I hope that eventually we can work out how to replace him with Lo Celso in a similar 11
Son - Great goal, was dangerous, happy with him
Kane - Top marks for shithousing, looks like he was making a point to day to show he's gonna do what it takes to get where he wants to me, was nice to see how happy he was with our 2nd goal.

I think gotta be taken into account it was at spammers home ground, they always raise game against us (Antonio in particular), we haven’t won away for donkeys in league and haven’t built up that winning mentality / arrogance again yet.

We’ll perhaps need to tweek squad as that first 11 was very good early on but as I’ve said Sissoko was awful and is a limited footballer who we should not be relying on - yes i know he’s had a good patch in recent times but we need better than him although I can see why Mourinho put him on for Moura to try and help defend lead.

Spammers seemed to be getting shitloads of space down right side too so Aurier still scares me, wonder if Foyth will get a chance with perhaps right back prioritised hopefully.

A much needed win but still need to shake off that soft spurs underbelly that has been coming back in recent times.

Gazzaniga - let in two goals, bit disappointing although a team effort to defend also. Antonios goals was quality but the second one they got a bit meek...

Aurier - they seemed to have a lot of space down right side second half, he still scares me and I wonder if Foyth will get opportunity. Defo need to look for a new right back though, I just don’t feel Aurier has the right mentality.

Sanchez - looked very good to me and won a lot of aerial battles.

Alderweireld - didn’t really notice him much although could be a good thing?

Davies - solid enough for me, prefer over Rose these days.

Dier / Winks - didn’t notice either much and control was lacking in second half so have to think should have done better to protect defence. Central midfield is one of the most important areas of the pitch and can be the major difference so Mourinho has work to do there getting the balance.

Dele - first half outstanding, faded second half but he’s coming back and building up fitness, plus always been a hot and cold. Can’t fault him though after that first half, wow!

Moura - lovely goal and looked lively but dat miss oh Lordy...

Son - pure sex wee

Kane - glad he took his goal, got kicked about a bit and Snodgrass should have been off for me for his petulance against him late game. Led line well.

Subs

Sissoko - oh dear me...

Rose - stupidly shoved over one of their players in our penalty box, totally stupid thing to do and lucky wasn’t penalised for that. Having been one of his biggest fans he worries me big time now and we need to upgrade left back options (depending on what happens with Sessegnon). Like Aurier he doesn’t seem to have right mentality for me as just does stupid things like that.

Eriksen - didn’t really notice him, was too busy shitting myself that we were gonna chuck this away lol

I was happy with the majority in many ways. Most players put in a real shift and whilst I nearly ticked team effort I went Kane in the end - was a real captains performance and loved the physicality. Son, Dele and Davies were all great too though. As others have said I also thought aurier had good game.

Gazzaniga - 6 - ok, but will be disappointed to concede twice

Aurier - 7.5 - thought he was excellent apart from a couple of blips (clumsy challenge in box in first half, poor positioning behind Sissoko in build-up to corner before WH second)

Davinson - 7 - good but lost his man (and concentration) for WH second

Toby - 7.5 - v good, could maybe have closed down better for Antonio goal

Davies - 7.5 - quite effective as deep full-back, lack of pace evident in build-up to WH’s first

Dier - 6.5 - rusty first half, but you can see he will be very important player for JM

Winks - 8 - I thought he was very effective today, first half particularly

Moura - 8 - very good, constant threat, ran hard

Dele - 8.5 (MotM) - really excellent first half, you can see how he benefits from trying to find the killer pass earlier, rather than slow, patient build-up

Son - 8 - as per Moura, constant threat

Kane - 8 - I felt he really tried to lead in second half (including with some classic Mourinho shithousing)

Dele MOM by a country mile. Was involved in everything good going forward.
Dier was dreadful especially in the first half. Moura looked better because he was plying his natural position out wide so he wasn’t getting in Kane’s way.
JM stopped us putting our defense under needless pressure by doing away with the macho BS of playing out from the back. He had the FBs(especially Davies) playing much more conservatively and got the ball quickly up to the front 4 to cause their defense problems. Which they did all 3 forwards scored and Dele was involved in 2 of the 3 goals. The game is was too easy for us which made us switch off for the last half hour allowing WHU back in the game. In sone ways that is a good thing as allows JM to show them how and why they are conceding goals so easily. Mourinho teams don’t give up 2 goals in the last third of games. Normally 2-0 and games are over with his teams. A lot of work to do.

Dier wasn’t dreadful, he was just a bit sloppy as hasn’t played that position for over a year.
he grew into the game and will be very important under Jose.
