Everton away next week for them, now actually looks like a very tough game, which a month ago was a different story. Hopefully Big Dunc can keep them fired up.

Oooh. He's certainly made Everton more combative.

Yeah exactly, it’s basically impossible to do down if you have a 20 goal striker. Arsenal have 2, and there is loads of dross in the division. I’d be amazed if they aren’t top half
We can hope a bottom half finish for them this season would be magic

If they got Arteta would he be good for them? I think he will be a good coach for sure, certainly after learning from Pep... obviously unproven though...

It does beat getting in Allegri or Ancelotti i think...

they continue to get worse but let's not pretend we're streets ahead

a couple of quality signings and Saliba coming will see them back in the pack where we are

They won't end up in a relegation battle but at this rate, may well struggle to get into Europe.
With their current finances, that will be a massive kick in the stones. They're currently running a loss and I'm pretty sure I've read that they're close to the ffp lines.
Considering the likes of Pepe and Saliba are being paid in installments over the next few years, they've really got themselves into a bit of a pickle.
They need major investment into their squad - although they don't seem to understand which areas need improving - and they just aren't going to have the funds available

The current ostracisation of Lacazette suggests to me that he'd be top of their get rid list, they could receive a good fee for him. I can't understand why he isn't playing if that isn't the reason, he's a all-round quality footballer. Not as rapid and predatory as Aubameyang but certainly has more to his game.

If I were boss there (God forbid) I'd be so tempted to try out a Liverpool-like front three with Lacazette in the Firmino role and Aubameyang and A.N. other rapid forward (Pepe, Martinelli, Saka) either side. That leaves no space for Özil in the midfield but honestly, he's such a lost cause it surely wouldn't matter.

Aubameyang only wants to play centrally though, and he's also their best player. It makes no sense to shift him out wide to accomodate Lazazette, as good as a player as he is.

It's symptomatic of the shambles that Arsenal are that they signed two top class No. 9s, despite the rest of their squad being utterly fucked and their budget being pretty limited.

I'd argue that Aubameyang would only nominally play on the flank and would be as central as Lacazette most of the time in such a system. It would require Lacazette to play a bit deeper than as a true 9 but he has the skillset to do it.

Absolutely agree that it's a shambles that they spent so much money on those two and none of the managers they've had since their signings want to play a two striker system.

Maybe this was his way of getting out of Arsenal. The chaos caused by the NBA over China served as an example, so out of the blue he drops some bombs and waits for the shit to hit the fan. Game removed from the schedule, his fan club closed, social media profiles (weibo and such) taken away and mentions of him removed. He is invisible.

If Arsenal want to play him, they lose the Chinese broadcasters - for the timebeing, at least. Might be fun to see how it plays out.

I just love how poorly they've handled the whole managerial situation. Rather than lining someone up in advance like we did, they rashly pulled the trigger and managed to bring in an even worse caretaker (for all his failings, Sherwood did actually win a lot of games).

It's been a few weeks now so their first choice is clearly either unavailable or has rejected them, so they either have to see out the season with Funtime Freddie or rush in someone risky like Arteta.

What a time to be alive.
