January transfer window - looking for strikers - everyone is trying to fuck everyone else over though. You have to get your pieces in place and then start working down your list as each one you really want doesn't happen.
I imagine Benteke is somewhere quite far down the list at the moment.

I bet the nightmare is rapidly climbing the list. :nailbiting:

I honestly think we will either end up bringing Llorente back or nobody at all, The club are looking for the perfect loan deal & nobody will likely accept the terms

I find it extremely hard to believe DL wouldn't bring in a striker on loan. He will know there is still a chance of us nicking a Europa League spot, potentially winning the cup and at least getting through next round of the CL if we get somebody decent in. All that would bring in a fair wad of cash.

The quality of the striker is another matter but it would be even more negligent than the summer of 2018 for us to bring in nobody. Even knowing what Levy's like i'd still be shocked if we decided to do nothing.

I don’t know why we haven’t made a move for Mariano Diaz? Zidane wants shot of him and he did really well at Lyon. He’s big, strong and a decent finisher.

I love Poch to bits, but how the fuck did he let this happen under this watch?
It is dumbfounding at how disjointed this side actually is.
This could take years to get us to where we were two seasons ago.

It is not his fault. Nor is it Mourinho’s. There is a VERY good reason Poch is still wanted by the big clubs despite the failings of this club the last 12 months. Anyone who tries pinning this on Poch is deluded.

Mostly no, but not entirely without blame. Was it not Poch who supposedly didn’t fancy Tielemens or Maddison? Or who thought Foyth could do a job at RB? And presumably was ok with letting Llorente go without replacing him.

I agree the squad is shit, but I'm not sure how much he can be blamed. He said for 1.5yrs that a "painful" rebuild was in order. Everyone thought he was making excuses.

And before anyone brings it up, I know the general narrative is that he was too stubborn on transfer options, but you can't fault him for balking at bringing in N'ybody.

Disagree a bit, Tanganga's omission, the state of the youth teams, our fitness and his decisions on players we could have had have cost us just as much as Levy being the obvious tightwad and living up to that side of himself are factors - I blame Levy for sure, Poch is not blameless and you;re deluded for even thinking otherwise.

Nothing shocks me with Levy anymore after failing to sign a single soul in that infamous summer window, which is why I’m preparing myself for the worst this window.

We can’t afford to be too picky & wait to find the perfect fit, otherwise we’ll be left short again

Erling Haaland has just scored a hat-trick on his debut for Borussia Dortmund.

How do they manage to keep signing young talented players?

Probably because they identify players that are within their means, and then go all out for them without procrastinating forever like us.

Also helps I think that traditionally they face less competition from other Bundesliga teams ( apart from Bayern obviously).

Don't they also place (in Haalands case I think, could have misread that) a release clause? It didn't work even when Toby had one for us, but maybe it works with players other teams want ...

As embarrassing as it is I’d take Llorente rather than do nothing.

If we had Llorente today we would have won. We lacked a focal point, someone with some kind of presence particularly when you had Aurier in good positions to cross but couldnt. Even if the ball doesnt get cross to Llorente, the fact is the defences would be occupied by someone whoi is a thread in there

And anyone who blindly defends him in the face of the evidence that our squad is all over the place after he was in charge for 5 years is also deluded. It's not a binary choice, it's possible that Poch could be partially (more than partially imo) responsible. He should definitely take the blame for the state of this generation of once-promising academy products (Onomah, Edwards, KWP, etc).
