If a Klopp or a Guardiola (or a number of younger, more radical managers we could list) had replaced Poch, you would have seen something more by now in terms of how they wanted us to play. It may have been a very incomplete jigsaw puzzle, with just as many mistakes (if not more) but I believe we would be seeing more green shoots by now.
I disagree completely. Arteta wants arsenal to play a certain, and they are, they've won 1 game under him!

Mourinho is a pragmatist. He has somehow managed to get a squad with players wanting to leave, low in confidence, riddled with injury, lacking direction and in horrific form, and get them to win games. We're unbeaten in 7 and have won our last 3. Still in the FA cup, champions league and the hunt for top 4(5).

For me, while the style of play is not what I like, he has performed miracles so far! You can also see the beginnings of a pattern of play.

Another solid display from Bergwijn and a good cameo from Gedson. The January window keeps looking better

Yep, Jose's been running around putting out fires, having zero opportunity to work with what he has as the games keep coming. Not ideal.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as it's early days and we have both injury and squad issues in key areas, but extolling the virtues of winning while playing shit is a dangerous game. There are very fine margins on here between everyone saying Jose is a genius and teaching us to grind out wins and being a past-it negative shitmonger.

It was exactly the same under Poch in the first half of last season. We went on a miraculous run of winning games we had no right to win yet you couldn't say a bad word about Poch on here because, despite our shitness, we were still winning. Unsurprisingly our luck finally turned and the 2nd half of the season was far more representative of our true form.

Yes, winning is great and yes I'm fucking overjoyed we've won these past 3 games but we shouldn't get too carried away as we won't keep winning if we keep playing like this.

I'm now watching the game as been at work but I sneakily saw first 15min. 4 stand out seriously wtf moments.
Aurier, first foul on edge of box when the ball is on the oyher side of the pitch. You fkin twat.
Aurier, second foul 10 secs after the first one. Seriously guy wtf are you trying to do here?
Dier, no pressure sjicide pass straight to a Villa player halfway inside our half. Are you fkin blind? Did you not see him?
And finally the first Villa goal. Blaming Lloris for this one. Started to come and should have but stopped and left Alderweireld up shit creek. Toby still should have dealt with it better but it was a calamitous fk up between them.
That was all in first 10min!
Gonna wait for your full report, like my 19 year old said today, everyone jumps on Aurier when he makes a mistake but never compliments him when he does something good. At the beginning of the second half a villa defender committed the same tackle on Son that Aurier committed on Grealish but the pull was considered to light to warrant Sons response to it,

I was very impressed by Grealish, he isn’t content to just aimlessly put ball in the box, he waits and looks to actually pass it to someone. We really need someone with that composure and awareness.

He’s scored 6 goals in our last 5 games.

We’ve won four of them, and drawn one.

What the fuck are you talking about

He went a bit over the top but Son hasn’t been good for a few months, he should’ve had way more than 2 today. Kane would’ve got at least a hattrick playing in a wheelchair that game. Son and Dele’s finishing was awful and nearly cost us a vital 3 points, a late goal shouldn’t stop criticism of them.

Yes, but the second half of last season still resulted in us finishing 4th and getting to the champions league final.

Obviously if were a year in and still playing like this it would be a serious concern, but as it stands we are playing relatively poorly and winning. The supposition is that as we get used to what he wants, our new players settle, we will play better.

7 unbeaten is 7 unbeaten now matter how you are playing. You dont get lucky 7 consecutive times. We are clearly doing at least some things right.

I'm a naturally optimistic person so I guess I want to see the cup as being half full.

That's not what happened. He decided to stay and signed a new contract. Fuck all to do with us or with Levy.
That's not what happened either. The only bit of ITK I'll ever have is that Grealish thought he was a Spurs player. It was the Villa takeover that put the definitive end to that deal.

He ain't a speedster, but he used his smarts on the turn to leave our defenders exposed a few times, and showed enough pace to worry us in those situations. He reads the game well, exploits spaces and defensive vulnerabilities. Think the only reason he couldn't punish us was because of the players around him.

Don't know about the overhype stuff, but he's definitely developed his game. I was impressed. Reminds me of a stronger, more durable and likeable Jack Wilshire!

You should have left it at "likeable". I threw up in my mouth reading Jack Wilshire. :spitoutdummy:

I mean it's an undeniable truth but both were also miraculous in different ways. Arsenal and Utd both somehow went on runs of form even worse than ours and the Ajax and City games...they were some of my favourite moments as a Spurs fan but we rode our luck an unbelievable amount in those ties.

I'd say I'm more cautiously optimistic. I completely agree that we should improve once the team settles and Jose brings in more players. However based on what I'm watching week in week out I can't pretend that everything is great and I don't have some serious concerns too.

D'you get the impression that some people disagree? :sneaky:

I knew exactly what I was setting myself up for, given this forum’s ability to deify any player we miss out on. He was decent but gives the ball away consistently and goes to ground far too easily, and in the return fixture at the Lane he was a shambles, got totally outplayed by our midfield.

With the possible exception of Dele, I don’t see who he replaces in our team. He’s not a CM as some people seem to think, and he’s not the first 11 upgrade some people are imagining. As soon as he played for us all his faults would be not only recognised but in the usual style, they’d be magnified beyond belief into reasons why he needs “replacing” or “upgrading”.

Still, best thing about that post was that it only mainly got hit with a ton of Disagrees and generally sensible replies from people with different opinions - which is exactly what the forum is for. Don’t mind that at all.
