After the Hennessey case where he claim he didn't know what a nazi salute was and got off the hook, I'm all for going for something that dumb.

Personally, i’d just go with the defence that Dier did the decent thing and stepped in to defend his younger brother when his brother was getting aggro. Take the moral high ground and paint the FA as mugs if they punish Dier for doing something that the majority of us would do in the same circumstances.

I just hope that the so called “supporter” who gave Diers brother abuse is banned from every stadium for life. Buying a ticket does not give you the right to hurl abuse at anyone.

I think this is going to endear him with the fans. Some of the memes I’ve seen today have been hilarious and mates who are fans of other clubs think he’s a legend for wading in. Fingers crossed he just gets a hefty fine and a couple of games ban. I’m going to cut him a break and he played well last night.

We seriously have one of the worst fanbases in the league.
Not as vile as West Ham and the Chavs, but a seriously dislikable fanbase nonetheless.
Obv a sweeping generalisation, and there are a lot of sound fans on here and at games, but we have an unbelievable number of fucking morons amongst us and they seem to be multiplying.
This place has been my favourite website for a good 15 years, but at the moment, fucking hell...

I hope I'm wrong but I honestly think he's potentially facing a Ginola-esque ban. Probably not to the full extent that Ginola received, but I'd be shocked if the FA didn't make an example out of him. There's simply no way that they can countenance players climbing into the stands to have a go at spectators. Unless there is some enormous mitigating circumstance approaching the level of the fan who abused Livermore on the basis of his dead child, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the ban were the rest of the season plus international duty over the summer.

Incredibly ironic that it comes just as he was finally being given a run in his natural position and beginning to thrive after years of being set up for failure by his managers selecting him in a role which doomed him to failure. The fucking luck this club has, over and over and over again, is just fucking unbelievable.
Ginolaesque? You mean when he went for the 4th official after his ridiculous sending off for giving Dennis Wise his just desserts?

Whoops, you're absolutely right, I'm under a heavy workload at the moment, my brain is fried and I meant to say Cantona-esque.

No point showing such fight after the game. Did that in my section and he’d have got switched off the fat entitled ****. Championship player

This is kind of my view. If your brother is in a section with quite a lot of drunk idiots that probably can give or take Spurs then after a performance and result like that plenty of stuff will be said

If you don’t get that you don’t know football. If his brother or Eric was easily offended he needed to be in a different section, a proper box away from the 'mob'. Maybe somewhere reserved for players families etc. It’s not like they can’t afford it

As for his performance on the pitch I’m reading what a great game he had. Who was he up against ffs. Even Pukki wasn’t playing. They were even more pathetic infront of goal than we were!

He was decent in a back 3. Not good in a back 4. Was very good in midfield for a season or 2

Still looks miles off it for me but looked better due to Norwich's such blunt attack

"Thank you to the incident review board for letting me explain myself.
Yeah, after the match against Norwich, the player's tunnel was jammed, we all just wanted to get home.
I saw in front of me a clearing in the stadium due to empty seats, and plotted a quicker escape out of the stadium
That's it, I was just heading home. Then the media has blown this out of proportion. I'm a white, heterosexual meat-eating man of privilege and some brain since I speak two languages. As such I belong to a threatened group subject to constant scrutiny these days. It's not easy being a white man. The pain is real. And the media picked me as an easy target this week. Next week it will be Prince Harry again, God save him."

This is a decent take on the events

There are lines and there are plenty of fucking idiots who cross them

His brother should not have been in that decrying he’s going to react and Eric cannot go into the crowd

Morons crossing the line need to be identified and pulled out by stewards

The big problem is where do we draw the line?

New supporters to the game will probably have completely different lines to those brought up going back to the 70's etc

I have no problem if someone calls Dier a useless fat **** or words to that effect all game (not my style but I can understand it, like booing) but my line is drawn with bringing other family members into it and wishing illness etc on them + other shit

apparently the dude giving him grief ran like a pussy. that alone is worth any ban he gets. who here could tolerate someone heckling you at work for 90 minutes?

Comes as part of the job though. Hes a professional abs should act like one.

If this is okay would it be okay for a lineman to jump in and have a punch up every time someone shouts at them?

like that matters. you might bail on your brother thats your choice
So Dier’s brother caused the confrontation then Eric himself made the situation worst but he’s in the right?

The “fan” was obviously being a complete twat but it’s the stewards job to sort it out not Eric’s brother.

Eric has let the club down and I expect a massive ban and more bad headlines that wasn’t needed.
