The thing that concerns me is the lack of a plan for some of our players. I actually think Sessegnon has good potential but I just don't see where he fits into our team.

He's not aggressive enough to be a defender. If he replaces Son when he leaves then we are losing a fair amount of goals.

Imagine if we’d of put that £20 million towards a right back or defensive midfielder last summer. We’d be in a much better place now.

I don’t want to lose him but mentally it must be very tough for him. From going to play every game to not getting a look in all season. I really wonder what he was sold upon joining us.

If he's seen as a future LB I'd have no problem with him being loaned out to a PL club, maybe even back to Fulham if they come back up. Both Rose and Walker had loan spells at PL clubs before establishing themselves as out first choice fullbacks.

If he's seen as more of a LM/LW I'd prefer if if he stayed with us next season and tried to work his way in to the team by being given chances in cups and some PL games. I feel like his game as a winger is more compete, as has already been mentioned his finishing isn't too bad, he definitely has pace to burn, he just needs to work on taking on his man and delivering a final ball. Adama has shown this season what really focusing on improving end product can do for a wingers game, so no reason why Sessegnon can't look at that and do the same. He doesn't quite have the raw pace or physicality of Adama, but a year ago I know who I would have chosen. It's up to him to push on.

You make a very valid point..what is he?
As mentioned in a previous post, i think he would be best off on the left side of midfield in a 4-4-2 similar to McNeil at Burnley. Problem is how many teams play 4-4-2 these days?

People say play him as a LWF but the way that position plays allows for a right footed player or at least a two footed player with either the trickery or ability to beat someone. Sess is a pass and move player. I have never seen him roast a right back once as he is not a very good dribbler.

I don't see him as an attacking player at all. He doesn't have the type of ability to beat a man, his crossing isn't particularly noteworthy that would mean he could get away without having the trickery to dribble past people. Like for instance McNeil whose crossing film anywhere is fantastic.

I'd say RS either learns to defend and plays left back or nothing. Worryingly, he's looked profoundly out of his depth when he has played there.

I think people need to realise just because he isn’t playing doesn’t mean Jose doesn’t rate him. Think a good loan next season might be the best thing for him.

I hate the way everybody thinks any player who's not starting regularly 'needs a loan'.

And then what? Sign another LB? Madness.

Pretty sure Sess knew that he wouldn't just walk in over seasoned Internationals like Rose, Davies, and Verts.

His time is coming.

He is 20. He is essentially a youth player. He almost certainly knew the situation when he came in. This season is all about development and adjustment. He will take a few seasons more before he can truly expect to be knocking on the first team door.

He has been playing first time football since he was 16. He is not going to accept waiting around a few seasons as a back up.

People focus on a players age like it is the yard stick of their standing within the game. He is the same age as Foden and Sancho and they will be playing for England next summer barring injuries. Sess is so far off that yet he was the big name in their age group at 16. He hasn't developed as a player in the last two years. Can he get better of course and he will, but he needs to play first team football regularly especially in a position he is not used to playing.

Well I hope to sign a better left back then Ben Davies. I like Ben..he is dependable but bloody hell he has his limits.

He does but with Jose those limitis arent going to be exploited. He’s defensively solid and that is all he needs to be as only one FB(Serge) is given the license to go forward in this system.

I would hope to see some evolution to that system depending on future signings; otherwise it could make us very predictable.

As it's always the case with Jose (and the way it should be) he's focusing on the pieces that fit his system....for now.

Sess will get his chance, we just need to be patient.

Well if he can't accept that then get rid. Would show a poor mentality not ready to prove himself valuable to the club.

I don't always buy 'they need to play football' stuff or they get bad stuff. Loans can be advantageous but can also be not good, it depends on the player. Sess has so much experience already he might be better of listening to the managers needs. I'm not against a loan, but for now he should be spending time adjusting to the position and the level while getting the odd minutes.

He is a kid whose change of position was probably a bad long term move if he wants to make it to the top. The problem is with him is his attributes are clearly not of a winger. Maybe a fullback, or even playing as a number 10 and this is what held him back. He has to bide his time, at Fulham he was a starting player, here he is just a very talented young player. If he can't cope with that. bye bye.

I get why Sess is at the moment maybe not an option as LB.
But honestly not give him a single minute as a winger is a bit pathetic. Not to mention he can not get on a 9 man bench.

His self confidence must be shred to pieces.

I do not get it though. He was so promising against Bayern...

Sess always looks like a deer in the headlights, when I've seen him play this season. I'm not surprised Cirkin has stepped up, as poor Sess seems to have very little confidence. And if that is also impacting the effort he puts into training... then, yeah he's gonna get dropped.

Seems now that the most he can hope is a season long loan to a promoted PL club, or the equivalent. He needs to be playing every week to try and gain some level of confidence and experience. As I've not seen enough from him at this stage to suggest he is our future LB.

He should never have been bought with him playing 'leftback' in mind. Another rudderless transfer.

If he’s not ready come next season, he should be a player in high demand for a loan. Maybe use it to our advantage to secure a player we feel can help us. Sell KWP and loan Sessegnon to Soton in a deal for PEH?
