In a normal window I'd agree with you. But I think to sign the players of the quality we need, I think we are going to need funds beyond which we'd raise by selling the likes of Winks or Sissoko. I suspect it's all irrelevant and that we'll end up with PEH, who is far from bad. But if we do want a DM that has truly top class potential and we've got limited funds, then we are going to have to sell players who have value, though haven't made an impact. The way I see it, if it's true that Barca or PSG would give us our money back for NDombele and we can then sign Luis, I think we've got little choice. I just don' think we are going to get too many big money offers for Lamela or even Ali. I wouldn't consider selling Gio, Kane or Son. Other than that, if you look at our squad, it's not it's all it's cracked up to be and I think people would be shocked at the lack of interest in our players. 3 years ago virtually every club in the Prem would have liked Dembele, Rose, Walker, Verts, Toby, Eriksen and so on. Now, despite continually being told how good our squad is by the pundits, it really doesn't have much to tempt the clubs with big pockets.
Good post lots of truth in there

Just a quick one on Lo Celso, of his 16 goals last season only 2 were penalties mate, so no real skewing of stats.

I also think he will create a lot more in a better side with good movement. Give him attacking fullbacks and wing forwards in patterns of play and he will be able to play a David Silva type role for us.

We definitely need a mobile DM to provide a platform though.
We’re about 5-6 pieces away from a nice looking puzzle

Lloris

Aarons
Toby
Dier
Casagne

Hoyjberg
Sissoko

Coutiniho/Willian
Lo Celso
Son

Kane + back up to kane

I genuinely don’t see the Aarons thing as it stands with the kid. Clearly he’s a prospect but surely there are RBs at other clubs that are better and just as gettable who will be safer bets for the here and now.

Castagne, Mukiele, Celik seem like smarter plays than Aarons, who is maybe a move to Newcastle etc away from getting the starter minutes he’d want at this stage in his career.

Castagne as a versatile option for both LB and RB, as you’ve highlighted I like, Aarons I’m not sold on completely just yet, he’s aggressive, a talented and enthusiastic young player before but I’d like him only if we have another in that position to offer us the kind of depth we’d need to get back to where we want to see the club.

Lot of talking about his passing. Scott Parker never did more than 3 yard pass. And I think no one would complain about having Scotty back.

I'm not convinced by quotes from Saints fans who say how he's not that good, they are invariably in response to another fan who has praised him but which you never see, you don't know his form at the time or even when it was very often, but most of all I could gather together a fine old crop of negative posts off SC about Luca Modric.
What I will say about him is that from not even knowing his name going into a game against Southampton I have come out from the game having noticed him, I place a lot of faith in that upon which to base my opinion.
I'm good with this signing if it happens.

Forget stats. If Mourinho has picked out a gettable player who wants to come in a desperately needed position, we should 100% do everything we can to bring him in.

JM has worked with quite a few of the very best DM's the world has seen. I think that is enough reason to trust his judgement if this is who he wants. Especially when it's not going to be breaking the bank to do so.
Yes but Trix you don’t understand. He plays for Southampton which isn’t sexy, is Danish which isn’t sexy and looks like a star from a GTA game which isn’t sexy.

Give these guys little knowm nation Brangentineroonaly U21 capped 19 year old reserve from Fusbal Club di Bayelonermainbach with his long flowing dyed pink locks and beard waxed to look like a dolphin any day, he’s got potential 198 on football manager and has made three appearances in the Liga Tres.

Lets keep it simple...

Age : 24✅ :Still can be moulded & room for improvement

PL Experience : 4 Years ✅ No need for getting up to speed

Leadership : Club Captain ✅ Hassenhuttl, walks into job with club in relegation fight - 2nd game, picks 22 yr old Hojbjerg as club captain

International : Danish International from 2014. Already has 33 caps.

Youth Pedigree : Bayern Academy ✅. Should dispense any thought that he is not good on ball. Bayern doesnt give senior contract in 10months of joining, to youth players who aren't good on ball.

Managers Played under : Pep & Hassenhuttl.✅ Pep wrote about him on his book, saying he wanted to train Hojbjerg to take up the role like Busquets. Played under Pep more than a year and Pep gave him the senior cap ahead of other promising youth players. Came into the DFB Pokkal cup finals, played in a unfamilar RB role & eventually lifted the cup. Tactically, I bet, he should be well aware and able to understand and execute. Otherwise Pep isnt playing him.

Transfer Fee : On last year of his contract ✅. We should be able to get him for a considerably low fee.

It is going to be damn hard to get a player with such qualities, given our situation.

We have done so many risk transfers in the past. This, am very certain, won't be a failure.
Hojbjerg is an upgrade on what we have in squad for the position and can improve under Mourinho given age is on his side.

Great post, he really ticks a load of the boxes Jose will be looking for, and you can add decent physicality to that too. Just over 6ft and energetic. I remember thinking he was a real pain in recent games against them. Seems extremely keen and motivated to come here too which can only be a good thing.

I get the desire for a traditional DM (shame Zakaria trail has seemed to go cold) and the concerns that PEH might not be up to it, but the info about Pep above hopefully suggests he has scope to be the kind of midfielder we need. A bit of bite and leadership in midfield would certainly be useful right now.

Hopefully now City have CL again they won't get involved in this, feels like we are banking on getting this one over the line cheaply for Jose.

Spectacular effort.
Really that bad lol? I'm genuinely suprised, Aarons and Casagne are good full backs, upgrades on our current two, Hoyjberg gives us balance to the midfield, Sissoko is the power, Coutiniho/Willian give us quality and experience, lo celso n.o10, son, kane + back-up, whats not to like?

Sissoko starting. I will weep 24/7 if he is still starting every match next season. Good squad player but we need much better.

Ah yea fair enough not really sure why i put him in, i thought his energy would go nicely with PEH's defensive capabilities but yea mabye Winks would be better or Ndombele or a new CM if Ndombele is getting moved on.
