Was out for dinner with a pal last night. Yes, I have at least one of them. We were discussing The Mighty Spurs at great length, to the point of having a condiment based formation on the table.

Anyway, long story not so short, we came up with the idea of giving Lamela a go at DM. I was sober. He wasn’t. Thoughts?

Def no. Do you guys love to suffer ?

Sissoko and Winks weren't already painful enough to watch ?

Neither of us were that drunk.

But on Lamela, he covers a lot of grass, fit as a butchers dog when he isn’t getting a hip replacement, loves a tackle, good passer, plays with his head up to see what’s going on ahead of him.

With the “slight” exception of him never having played there before, I’m struggling to see the downside.

This isn't bring your fucking kid to work day and let him have a play with your pens. The amount of times he fails to release the ball tells you all you need to know.

I like Lamela no one works harder for the squad and his skinny ass doesn’t have a prob fucking with anyone. He can be improved on tho. I like him as a squad player, game changing substitute. Just so indecisive make the pass man and I will never understand how a professional player is so incredibly one footed.

There are times when his left foot is sublime, but this tends to be on to few occasions. He works hard & he's been quite useful from the bench since Jose has taken over, but I still want to see more from him.

He can beat a man and make a pass but he tends to hold onto the ball and u can see the confusion on his face. Has the attributes to be a #10 (he’s better centrally imo) but just can’t make it happen

He is a great 20-30 minute sub player and Europa league. Perfect for the squad if his injuries calm down.

He has much greater impact from the bench with his energy and demanding of the ball. If we utilise him like that next season i'd be happy to keep him. One of the very few players we have that really has that 'win at all costs' attitude. That's worth a lot on the training ground and in the changing room.

He's probably thinking I wish someone, anyone would make a fucking decent run so I can play a through pass instead of hiding or jogging next to several opposition defenders

Never fulfilled his potential and never will at Spurs given the (utterly ridiculous) expectation back then. That injury did for him in terms of development.

A decentish La Liga or Seria A team is his level.

Great attitude though.

I totally agree with @kaz Hirai
I don't see it as "confusion", the lack of movement up front causes his hesitation.
It is even more evident when Kane is off the pitch or out of the lineup as there's even less movement. Kane's the only one making intelligent runs.
Lamela knows how to pick a pass & that's one of his strongest attributes.
Just needs more players with vision on his level.

Chronic lack of pace will prevent him from being a top class player.

If you don’t like Lamela then I’m sorry because it indicates a lack of appreciation for the finer things in life. This man will give everything for Tottenham.

Then ask Del Ali! You would not be saying that if Lamela was right footed or else you would also put the same criticism to Dele and other right foot only players, unless you are blinkered or selective in your bias off course!

I think that he was releasing the ball a lot earlier and passing better when we had better more intelligent players in our team such as Eriksen and Dembele. Not it looks like his dribbling has come on in bounds but his passing is a weakness, perhaps this is due to having to play with winks and sissoko rather than Eriksen, Dembele and Wanywama. I also feel he looks his best with another intelligent player like lo Celso, but recently they have been subs for each other rather than played together and that is why at the tail end of the season he hasn't looked as good as he did earlier.
