It’s sounding very much like that, complete rebuild. Agreed.

I can see why that didn’t sit well with the board, and I can imagine had it happened, there’d be a large portion of the fan base up in arms about it too.
This. The truth is that we're not oil-rich. While the stadium was being built, we could only spend what we earnt in sales. In hindsight, the likes of Eriksen and Rose at least should have been sold much sooner - but that would've been massively unpopular with the fanbase at the time. Poch got plenty wrong, but he was right that we needed a painful rebuild, and if he'd been listened to on that by both the board and the fans we might have been doing it from a position of greater strength than where we find ourselves now.

Diplomatic as ever from Poche.

I'd love to know what his vision was though. Part of me thinks that he wanted to take a few steps back and rebuild again with younger players that he could mould in the same way he did before and that's what "the club" disagreed with. For him to suddenly be demanding £70m superstar signings seems too much of a departure from his history to me.

Exactly as you said. From Ornstein one month before his sacking

Looking at the players Poch wanted to bring in and those being signed during his tenure I’m not sure I’d want him to be in charge of any rebuilding. His transfer market nous left a lot to be desired.

Quotes from the Mirror report

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/mauricio-pochettino-admits-expected-more-22457292

"Only the one who wins or the one who exceeds expectations? After the Champions League final, four years in the top four, two years without signings ... a different management strategy was needed.

"Sometimes the vision of a coaching staff is not accepted by the club management. We knew what could happen.

"You need to fall, be down to then go up, but Tottenham made the decision to separate us after five and a half years. I understand that it is a long time."

Sounds like Poch was thinking of a complete rebuild from scratch as he believe he had gone as far as he can with this bunch and a few years out of the title or CL picture . This did not sit well with the board I guess given we just build a new stadium and had loans to pay off.

Probably also because the board would have rated 2018/19 as a pretty satisfactory season. We made the Champions League Final and ensured our first season at the new stadium would have Champions League football again by getting Top 4. If Poch told them that actually this team needed major rebuild because there are big problems, the board I suspect didn't share that view. The fact that it overlapped into the new season, and the new manager bounce hardly changed things much should make them clear they were wrong.

We didn't fix the roof when the sun was shining. Our squad stayed the same, we had starting line-ups that were virtually the same from five years ago. Just older and injury prone. The fact that certain players who clearly overstayed their welcome were the ones getting injured was a double whammy as in our signing policy if we can't offload deadwood then we weren't going to push the envelope in getting upgrades.

He backtracked recently and gave a mumbly excuse as to why he wouldn't actually, definitely, turn them down if they asked.
What would he do if Poch was asked to manage Arsenal? Thank goodness it will not happen as Arteta will stay.

This one has the quotes:

"You have to explain it properly. I was in Barcelona that year and I found myself with Bartomeu in a bar. We said hello to each other because we took the kids to the same school and we chatted for five minutes. That caused a rumour that set alarm bells ringing because more clubs wanted us. When I asked, I wanted to end it there and then; I did not want to disrespect Barcelona."

"Things can be said in a different way. Espanyol have helped me become well known. But I'm not arrogant and I didn't like making a comment like that. Maybe now I wouldn't say that as you never know what can happen in life,"

I think it’s a bit different with Barca because they are the biggest club in the world. Totally not the case with Arsenal.

Imagine if Poch became Juventus manager and tapped up Kane.

Would be beautiful revenge on Levy.

Why on earth would any Spurs fan want to fantasise about something like that, let alone describe it as "beautiful"?

No matter how much we love(d) Poch, we are Spurs fans first and foremost. Aren't we?

Hope Juve snap him up, he'll win things easy in Italy, he can grow as a manager over there, become a bit more tactical and learn to adapt against team in the CL, then he can come back in a few years.

Needs to get some silverware and this could be the perfect place, won’t be easy though with Napoli and inter looking like they’re going to spend serious money also considering they sacked Sarri after they won the league

Ballbag's on 5Live talking about this at the moment but because it's Ballbag, I've stopped listening. That man grinds my gears.
