Bournemouth will not let £30m Callum Wilson to leave for cut-price fee despite Tottenham interest in signing striker as Harry Kane understudy
  • Tottenham are keen to sign a back-up striker as understudy to Harry Kane
  • Callum Wilson in among handful of names but £30million valuation is problem
  • West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace are also interested in England forward
  • Bournemouth are unwilling to let Wilson leave the club for a cut price
Bournemouth will not let leave England international Callum Wilson leave on the cheap despite interest from Tottenham.

Spurs will turn their attentions to finally signing an understudy to Harry Kane after completing their swoop for keeper Joe Hart on Tuesday.

Wilson is among the names Spurs are considering in their search for a bona-fide back-up striker to Kane - though his £30million valuation could prove a stumbling block with Jose Mourinho working to a stringent budget

Mourinho wants to bolster his striking options this summer having watched his team's Champions League options flounder without Kane last season, who missed much of the campaign through injury.

West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace are also keen on the 28-year-old - and the fact those clubs could be willing to offer Wilson more regular first-team football may prove a factor.

Wilson is a proven top-flight goalscorer and has been a regular in the England squad, scoring once from his four caps.

Indeed, Bournemouth, having already sold Nathan Ake to Manchester City for £41million, are unwilling to allow one of their prized assets to leave for a cut-price fee - despite the player's obvious desire to continue playing top-flight football.

Classic Daily Mail bollocks. They are not paying £100,000-a-week plus to a striker in the championship next year, everyone knows it, so no sane club will pay more than 15mil for him.

They have a 16,000 seater stadium and everyone knows they’re not in the best financial nick. If they are taking that stance, it’s terrible posturing on their part.

In 2018/19 Bournemouth’s wage bill was £111m, the 12th highest in the Premier League.

Bournemouth’s recurring revenues (gate receipts,TV fees and parachute payment) next year will be a maximum of £50m.

They desperately need to sell off their higher earners.

Smacks of Bournemouth trying to bluff in the media. Just like Southampton did with Hojbjerg. Went from £35m to £25m to £15m.

Personally i hope we pass on him and find someone else but if push comes to shove he is better than nothing, providing his injury situation is ok.

Bournemouth can go fuck themselves giddy with a Dorset seagull if they really think they’re getting that kind of money for a player they can’t afford to keep anymore. It’s not 2019 you silly southern twatscapes

You are quite right. Herc has just completely poo-pooed this. Quite emotionally as well might I say. Check out the daily ITK thread. Daily fail rubbish.

Why do I feel like we’re going to end up with egg on our face & decide to not get a striker in because we ran out of options, just like in January

Nah we’ll get a rb and striker in for sure.

Just whether or not it’s to our liking will be the question.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we’re trying to make this a loan w/ option to buy. With an extra loan spot available you would think we would like to try to bring in at least one player on loan to delay payment until next summer [when we’re hopefully in a better economic situation].

Option to buy for a striker makes sense as well if Parrott happens to absolutely smash up the Championship and looks ready to deputize next season.

Can’t blame the club for wanting to make sure everything is A ok with his fitness. He’s had a couple of bad injuries recently, so it’s worth doing more than the usual once over. I wonder if this is why he was (supposedly) at the training ground the other day. Could have been there for part of a medical or something.

Been some more snippets this morning. Football insider saying Jose has spoken to him. Feels like it will start ramping up this week as hinted by the ITKs. Makes sense to do some medical checks before going through the hassle of fees and wages when there are pre-known issues to look at.

Look out for Newcastle/West Ham to have a 'bid accepted' in the next day or two at circa £25m a la Hojbjerg.

I read that Newcastle are prepared to offer Gayle and Ritchie but ultimately even if that's true, if Wilson doesn't want to go to Newcastle then they can offer whatever they want. Can't see Ashley wanting to fork out too much anyway given that he is still actively trying to sell the club.

Bournemouth spent 85% of their revenue on wages last season, highest in the PL.

They're fucked if they can't sell the big earners off and they know it.

Not only do they need to sell and recover their inevitable losses, they also need to bring in money that allows them to sign players too. It's not just about recouping for losses. So when people say they need 80m, it's likely they need much much more than that, as well as clearing the wage bill.

Exactly. If he's on £100k a week with a few years left, that's £15-16m in wages they can't afford to let him clock up.

My guess is he'll be available for between £10-15m with some add-ons. The nearer to £15m the fewer add-ons would be my assumption.

A number of clubs will be interested though, all comes down to where he wants to go. If it's us then we're in the driving seat like with Hojbjerg.

AFCB fan in peace.

I'd thought I'd correct a few misconceptions here.

Yes, our wage bill was £110m in the last accounts. There or thereabouts anyway. Lots owed on transfers as well.

However, since then we've been relegated and every player in the squad had a relegation reduction clause apart from Nathan Ake. And he has been sold. We don't know the level of the % as it seems it isn't a blanket number although The Guardian reported that Wilson's was set at 50%. So we won't be paying him £100k/week in the Championship, more like £50k. Still a chunky sum but depending what choices the manager makes it could maybe be justified for a season.

Meanwhile, from that wage bill as well as taking of those relegation reductions you can remove the wages of:

Ake, Fraser, Boruc, Defoe, Ibe, Brad Smith, Francis, Surman and Daniels. Daniels may yet be offered a new contract if he proves his fitness but is currently without a deal. All the others are definitely gone and that's a pretty significant saving.

Then factor in other savings that are pretty certain to come:
Begovic has 12 months left on his deal and will go on loan somewhere. It looks like AC Milan want him as their number 2 again so I guess he will end up there with them covering the salary.

Harry Arter is still in contract but the reason he left was to do with personal issues rather than ability so there isn't much chance he will come back since those same personal issues are still likely in play. There's a good chance his brother-in-law Scott Parker will take him to Fulham but something will happen with him moving on.

Josh King only has 12 months left on his contract and so will definitely be sold. We won't again risk letting another player act like a poisoned toe rag through the whole last year of their contract like Fraser. There seems to be a mass of clubs chasing him but I guess it'll only crystalise into one or two offers. He'll go though and again that's another higher earner off the bill.

The Ramsdale deal to Sheff Utd looks set. I'll be honest in I hoped that wouldn't happen but if it does a deal worth £21m (minus the Sheff Utd sell on making it worth £18.5m to us) is decent cash in the bank and another PL earner off the wage bill.

Then we come back the man you may be chasing, Callum.

He's said he wants to go as he has the idea he may get into the Euros squad next summer. I don't see it myself but you can't blame a guy for wanting to back himself. Not sure how that would tally with playing for you though where he would obviously have limited game time.

Anyway, with him on a long contract at a more affordable wage after the reduction and with £60m all but banked already and more likely to come we're in a position to hold for a price that we deem acceptable.

I doubt it will end up be £30m but £25m I can see. There are enough clubs in need of a proven striker that when it gets close to the window shutting, even if you've walked away, someone that has started the season badly will panic and bid for him. Or, if they don't, we keep him until January and then demand the full £30m then as we all know clubs are even more desperate then.

So yeah, on the surface we look to be in need of cash but actually a lot of steps have already been taken and others seem inevitable. Don't expect to get him on the cheap.

As for all the bitching from the AFCB fans about him last season, ignore them. He's still genuine PL quality. There was a whole host of bad things that hit at the same time to conspire to make our last season terrible and fans are fickle so lash out at everyone when that happens. The only one truly deserving of the bile is Fraser.

Since the ACL's, Wilson has been mostly fit so shouldn't really be an injury concern.

We'll see what happens but even if he wants to go to Spurs, I don't see us selling him unless you pay close to the full asking price.
