We could really use a direct replacement, but ultimately if no-one is available or we can't get top quality for the right price this window, I'd prefer we saved our money and waited rather than signing someone for the sake of it. Unlike Hojbjerg, Hart and Doherty which were fairly opportunistic, cheap, functional signings, if we're looking to spend a lot of money on an Ndombele replacement it's important that we get it right and don't make the same mistake again.

That said, if we could somehow get either Sabitzer or Grealish I'd be 100% in favour.
A semi-realistic dream window would be to shift Sissoko and replace with Sangare, and replace Ndombele with Grealish as well as getting in that somehow elusive back up striker.

Sangare is apparently available for €10m. We should be all over that regardless of selling Sissoko. There’s little risk at that price.

Anybody mention Aouar if we sell Tanguy? Rumored to have same price tag as Tanguy did last year.

This would be my hope too. Plays both CM and 10, every club in the world seems to be after him but nobody's number 1 priority so we could get him at a good price. He'd be excellent.

He looks great but I’d be amazed if we went back and spent big on another Lyon CM a year after Ndombele has seemingly flopped. It shouldn’t matter and they’re very different just think Levy will be put off. Actually think Caqueret from there has higher ceiling though. I’d have both them two and Cherki at spurs now if we had spare £100m+.

I won't be at all sad to see him leave.

His tenure with us is fast becoming a saga, and frankly he hasn't earned one of those.

Two managers in a row have failed to give him regular starts, which would suggest there are issues which go way beyond match fitness.

He's not being used, there are no signs that he's going to be used any time soon, and he's costing us £200k a week in wages while his sell-on value depletes. Sooner he goes, the better.

If we've found a buyer then it's got to be Inter I reckon. With the news that Kante isn't going anywhere for a sensible fee then Ndombele for around £45m seems like a good deal, especially for the Italian league where he'd seemingly fit in better.

I don't see the point in selling Sissoko though, he looked bad last season largely because he was made to play out of his natural role and given his impact in the dressing room I don't think we'll find a better squad player than him to replace him with.

I'd much rather we reinvest the majority / all of the Ndombele money on a replacement - Grealish would be ideal but I don't think he'll be within budget.

"Ibrahim Sangaré is an Ivorian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for French club Toulouse FC. "

"Damien Comolli appointed Toulouse FC chairman."

Something tells me a deal for Sangare wouldn't be that straightforward for us.

I just don't see Conte wanting him. If he doesn't even want to put the hard work in for Mourinho he will have a big shock under Conte who by all accounts is even more of a taskmaster.

Comoli and Levy get on very well, that would surely be a positive for us if we were interested

Cant believe we gave him such a massive contract. He’s had one good season of top flight football, and we went and gave him a pay packet equal to the England Captain.

Easy to say now, but it was our attempt at being ambitious for a change. I don't blame the board because his potential is unquestionable, sadly his committment isn't quite at the same level.

If we hadn't offered a big contract (hind site, unfortunately) can you imagine the furore on here if he went somewhere else in the PL and started ripping every one to bits.

Yep, we didn't learn after Janssen, who too had only one season of top flight football before we spent a load on him and gave him a huge contract. Took us years to get him off the books despite a load of (failed) loans. We then did the same with Ndombele. Obviously we didn't look into his personality. The club have to learn from this episode, but I expect they won't.

Ndombele on loan would be immensely poor decision from the club — especially if we’re giving them an option to buy him at loss. With likely little financial outlay from the buying club this window we won’t be signing a replacement for him this window. We’d be better off keeping him, especially in such a watershed season for club, player, and manager. We need as much talent as possible!

He’d be Dele’s backup, so there wouldn’t be as much pressure for him to be firing right away and he could be coached / trained back into the side. Not buying the loan rumors at all, a sale is a different story.

Best we can hope for is:

Skriniar -> PSG
Ndombele -> Inter
New Midfielder -> Spurs

Inter have thrown money around recently and are clearly desperate to please Conte who is playing hardball. We've just got to pray they decide to use the Skriniar money on Ndombele (or at least take him on loan with an obligation to buy) as I really can't see any other clubs paying the kind of money we're looking for.

I'm confident Levy would only let him go out on loan if there was an obligation to buy for the exact reasons you've stated. While this means we wouldn't get much cash for him up front, it might be the best way to get his wages off our books and get rid of his presence around the club. Would also at least guarantee that we got a decent fee for him long term as another year on our bench with little to no playing time would only see his value drop further.

I'd certain prefer we loaned him to Inter with an obligation to buy for £42M rather than having him fester on the bench for another season.

Best we can hope for is Ndombele stays and it works out and he's the player we all know he can be.
