Messi literally said that the president didn't keep his word about letting him leave if he wants to, and the only reason he's staying is to avoid a court battle against the club he loves.

Sad really. City would have paid £80m or whatever, Messi would have a new challenge, and Barca would be saving £100m+ a year on wages. Instead he's reluctantly staying, and I can't see City buying him when he's nearly 35. Shame, I would love to see him in the PL.

Meh, I’d rather not see the greatest player ever playing for those sports-washing financial dopers. Would seriously taint his reputation imo.

Gutted if he doesn't make it to the prem, surely city will swoop in at the end of his contract if he is free though

Baffles me how desperate some of you weirdos are for Messi to sign for one of our rivals. It’s like wanting the best looking woman in the world to marry your neighbour so that you can watch her hanging her knickers out on the line.

No kink-shaming please.

3? Didn’t they buy Kovacic for £40m last summer.

Edit: they also bought Pulisic the January before so In reality they didn’t buy anyone for 1 January (2020) transfer window.
Yeah you're right but as @Sweech says they've brought in loads of money so they are nowhere near breaking FFP.

how does Chelsea concern us i don't know
Think the point is that we're in danger of being left behind when our direct rivals are massively investing. We were consistently ahead of Chelsea 2 seasons ago. Even the skuzzers - finished ahead of them for how long? So they buy a much sought after CB in Gabriel. God help us if they manage to get Aouar and Partey.

Chelsea have always been able to outspend us.

I do think Arsenal could be a dark horse, but I said that last year (I know they won the FA Cup, but I'll put that down to the bastard football gods rather than the team they were.)

We had a number of massive under performers last year though and a disjointed team.

If José can find the right buttons and balance I'm pretty sure we'll be there or thereabouts in the top 4 again.

Could do with a little more depth still, obviously.

In fairness they had plenty of cash following the Hazard and Morata sales.

Fair, I forgot about Hazard. Still given income clubs have lost recently, mixed with their big money signings, with a fair few of their outgoings being frees. Havertz and Werner alone above most clubs capabilities.

Maybe it is just frustration watching rivals strengthen.
