Just watched the Rose part of the documentary - don’t have one issue with what he said until he stood up at the end. Then he got silly.

I've not watched any of this, but I saw the 2 min Danny Rose clip earlier. He perhaps seems to have a little bit of a chip on his folder, but I would disagree strongly with whoever claims he was being disrespectful. He was perfectly within his rights to ask the questions he did IMO. At the same time, Mourinho is also correct with his response. Rose is entitled to think other players have been shit, but his doing so doesn't make that a fact.

I don’t have a vendetta against Mourinho and I really want him to be a success but I just can’t buy into his management style.

To me, he comes across so fake. I understand what he is trying to achieve from everything he says, but it never comes across genuine to me. It comes across as him saying and acting exactly how he feels he needs to in order to provoke a response.

You can argue that makes him a good manager, which of course he has proven.

However, for me I would struggle to buy into it. I work best with people I feel are totally genuine and can get on an emotional level with. I think some players reactions show this. Some look at each other, some look uncomfortable and some almost cringe.

Let's not forget, this Rose meeting was just after Watford away.

Where Tanganga played defensive LB against Sarr who a) 6'1 b) very fast and strong c) LEFT FOOTED.

So IF the manager wants his LB to just defend then surely a taller, faster, stronger, righted footed, and more defensive minded player was a justifiable choice?

JM made the decision from the get go that we were only playing one small attacking full back, owing to our imbalance in midfield. So to get back in Danny had to outperform Serge.

If he'd taken his head out of his ass long enough, he might have listened to the coach, understood why he was out and knuckled down to get back in.

His behaviour and reaction were symptomatic of a toxic and entitled attitude, and I think once he briefed against JM to the Sun he was done at Spurs and sad as that may be rightly so.
Completely 100% agree with all this mate fantastic points.

Yeah that was that bit that sent alarm bells off for me - probably a poor choice of words from him, but saying you can’t plan for it (as head of recruitment) is ridiculous!
Judging the sunderland doc and others I think that's a widely held opinion. January is not a good window, either you sign players who are being pushed out or you overpay. It's very much based on circumstances. Ideally one shouldn't be using January to sign players at all, it's a pretty terrible buying market. But sometimes you need to, and then it's just seeing what is possible.

Really interesting points mate, I kind of see what you mean. Perhaps it’s a little due to the translation to English as it’s obvs not his natural language but what behaviours do you think he makes that aren’t genuine?

I think a good manager will say the right things to different players which gets the right response from them individually.

I was thinking about this today that all the top managers in the Prem are a little bit odd:
Pep
Klopp
Jose
Wenger

Fergie - was fairly ‘normal‘ tbh
Lampard seems to be pretty genuine and well balanced.

I feel like Jose is a bit hit and miss, sometimes his 1-2-1’s like with Dele have me thinking wow amazing manager very inspiring, same with some of his team talks but then I see some other ones and I’m not sure exactly what he’s trying to say and I’m wondering as amazing as his English is perhaps part of the issue is just how certain things he wants to say get translated?

I wasn’t a fan of when he took the p out of Sanchez about how he should have balls and his man.u team beat them minute one, that kind of thing can work for some people but for me Davison seems like quite a soft nice guy and he’d respond a bit better to an arm round the shoulder but at the end of the day Jose has won trophies everywhere he’s been time and time again so his collective managerial ability (man management, tactics, building a squad, motivation etc etc) must be pretty good otherwise he’d not have won so much.

Agree. Was going fine until he lost his head a bit at the end. Seems like a quite unpredictable difficult character as we thought he could be.

Actually think Steve Hitchen comes across worst from those episodes.

Head of recruitment but spends the time moaning at how hard it is to compete with United etc and emphasising again how difficult it is to get transfers done. Can see why Levy likes him but for me he came across pretty miserable for a guy whose job isn't to work the numbers but to unearth talents.
Could just be just personality and mannerisms, I’m sure he enjoys it really and is good at it but I suppose in such an intense and competitive role it can be good to be a bit hard nosed tbh.

But I know what you mean he wasn’t exactly inspiring but he came across as he knew what he was doing.

IMO, Mourinho was spot on. A defender like Sanchez should bully players from left to right. A good example is Koulibaly.

Sanchez is still young and he can develop into that. But clearly needs to be a big bully presence there on the pitch. He has all the tools to do that.

Nice I’m actually glad To hear others saw it in a more positive way than me and I get what you’re saying 100%, I suppose Jose likes his defenders to be hard as nails and intimate people not be nice guys as he keeps saying so perhaps even if it might have got under Davidson’s skin a bit with that comment mabye Longer term It will help towards changing the mentality of the players and club to being tougher.

it’s all so interesting!

I actually really like José.

I have to say that I think he has already identified what has held us back as a club, and it’s something that people on here have actually mentioned in seasons past. We are just too nice, too happy to play well and come second. Miss out on the titles and the trophies but be able to say we scored some nice goals and tried.

It’s the entire mentality of the club it would seem. We have a lot of players who are really likeable, nice, down to earth guys. There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of characters who are all about getting the win and willing to make sure others in the team are aware that they either believe in the same thing or miss out on playing time.

Hopefully, the players José is bringing in are more the kinds of players we need to instil more of a winning mentality in the club.

My tuppence worth on Danny Rose during that episode....
Respect him for speaking up, and being pissed off that he wasn't in the team (love the spirit), but...i think he came across as a bit of a spoilt brat, and disrespective to Jan and Japhet.
Peak Danny Rose from a few years back was when he was probably the best left back in the league. Sadly for various reasons he has been on the decline since then, and doesn't warrant his place in the team (in my opinion).
Yet in his mind he was still challenging for the England squad for Euros, and asking about if Milan were still interested in him - you have to admire the self confidence in some ways!
Thanks for the memories and effort over the years Danny, but I think its time to move on permanently now.

Few random musings from me:
● We have some decent blokes at the club (lucas, sonny, japhet, stevie all come across well).
● I know its nothing much, but I really like how everyone greets each other with a handshake, fistpump, hug etc, every day at training...even Daniel too.
● Hugo impressive skipper!
● As a welshie, it did make me laugh that Ben Davies had to have subtitles during episode 5, yet some of the foreign players don't. I know a few boys who know Ben and they all say he's a top boy. Comes across well and a good character around the squad.
● I had genuinely forgotten how many major injuries we had last season. You expect one or two, but the amount we had was ridiculous when you think about it.

Nothing groundbreaking, but nice to see how the club operates on a day to day basis behind the scenes.

It's not the questions he asked, it was the way he asked them.

Like a petulant child.

It’s just small bits from a documentary but I really didn’t get a good vibe from Hitchen. Thought he came across so ‘poor me’ and moaning. Making it seem it’s impossible to find players who aren’t already being signed by other top clubs is a lie and slightly embarrassing to suggest. Hating the window when his whole job should be to have already prepared a plethora of options for the club to decide on, so there’s not much pressure on him.
Quite uninspiring if we’re aiming to unearth gems and quite frankly confirms my belief that our whole scouting system is really poorly run.

Danny was right in pointing out that the defence was shit, but he's seemed oblivious to the possibility that putting himself in it would probably make it shitter.

I'm enjoying it far more than I thought I would. Levy is clearly a fan, a bit socially awkward but its clear he loves the club. I was surprised Rose was that in Jose's face, I get his frustration but damn that isn't the way to handle it. Loving the Tanganga bits, he really is one of our own. Bring on the new season.

Just watched episode 5. The best bit was when we signed Bergwijn and my wife who was sat next to me on the sofa said “that’s not the chubby one that doesn’t do anything is it?”.
