Thanks for posting.

I do think we've got a bargain here. The only question for me is how well he deals with pressing teams when sitting in that deep position.
He seems to have a good enough combination of skill, strength and knowing how to use his body. He also seems to make quick decisions when it comes to passing. Needs the movement from his teammates to be on point too, but I think he’ll be at ease receiving the ball from defence under pressure, even if sometimes he takes a no nonsense option afterwards.

Lucky for him, the movement from our attacking players is second to none.

Sadly until our entire team starts moving properly and being open to receive a pass in the right places, we could have prime Hoddle in midfield and our transition play would still be ponderous. Under Pochettino this was less exposed because our press ensured teams were on the back foot the moment we won it, it would almost be impossible to screw up our attacks, but really it’s been an issue as long as I can remember.

I like his aggression. We missed someone like that in midfield. Winks and Sissoko were hiding too much.

I've probably said this 10 times in this thread, but god, after 2 years of Sissoko in CM it's refreshing to have a midfielder who can actually win the ball and provide cover while also doing simple things on the ball well. He's not a world beater but he's miles better than what we've had for the past 2 years.

After watching the documentary it is clear, and probably has been for a number of seasons that we lack leadership and strong players that can keep the momentum of a game going. Hugo clearly has it, he is also the captain of the world cup holders so will have the respect of everyone. It seems Hojbjerg has this same quality and I for one think it will make a difference to us once he gets settled in.

These were the comments on Hojbjerg from the Southampton keeper, Gunn, at the time (2019).

“He is a great leader. If I didn’t know how old he was, I definitely wouldn’t say he is 23-years-old," admitted the shot-stopper in April 2019 (via Southern Daily Echo).

“He is one of the older heads in the dressing room if you like and, obviously, he has been around the block.

“He’s played for Bayern Munich, which is a massive club. He has been there and done it. He is a great player to have in the dressing room.”

Glad to see him starting. Hope he has an awesome game, owns that position and bosses the midfield.

Looks like the fans who watched him every week for 3 years might have known what they were talking about when they said he was bang average.

Who knew?

I didn't think he was that bad but at one point he was our most creative midfielder and that's where the issue lies. I saw him give it to Winks on the edge of the box, who played it sideways to Sissoko, who then gave it back to Winks, who then gave it back to Hojbjerg where it started.

If you are going to play midfielders like him you need creativity around him. A midfield 3 of Winks, Sissoko and Hojbjerg is probably the least creative midfield in Europe.

Cant fault his effort (unlike some), but did look distinctly slow with poor passing ability, compared to someone like Gomez or Allen, is light years behind, but guess that's what you also get for 13 mill

Southampton fans said he was average and was not as good as Wanyama....but yet because he is signing for spurs, fans on this board disregard fans who have watched a player for a few seasons because it doesn't fit their agenda which is Spurs would never sign a bad player.
