Popped over to some Celtic forums because I have no life.

A lot of them thought there was a good chance he’d be off after their UCL elimination and his agent gave some lukewarm quotes about how UCL wasn’t everything for Edouard and he likes Celtic but you never know what will happen.

They laughed at the stories about Arsenal offering 20m ish and think they won’t sell for less than 35-40m.

Then in their Wednesday fixture this week, he was apparently quite poor, bad body language, and missed a penalty that was pretty lazy (a la Eriksen against Bayern last season). So Celtic fans were not thrilled about that.

Today he was on the bench and didn’t come on. Apparently he told Lennon at the last minute he didn’t feel fully fit to play, which seems to have led to the questioning of Lennon about the situation that is included above.

Celtic fans seems slightly concerned that his bad body language and average recent performances are an indication that his head might be turned. They were none too convinced by Lennon’s post game denials.

It does appear that PSG has a significant sell on clause, though based on the way Celtic fans were talking about it, it doesn’t appear to be publicly known? They were speculating that it is around 40% and there was debate whether it was 40% total or 40% of the profit. Also, Edouard’s contract is up in 2022 and there had been previous speculation going back awhile that he wanted a raise up to 50 or 60k/week and Celtic were considering doing it so they don’t lose leverage next summer with his contract having only one year left.

So overall, maybe there’s something in him leaving but they also might just be overreacting a bit to some poor performances. Hard to imagine them coming down too far off that 40m tag if PSG is in line for 40% of it.

IF that's all true then it's really poor form. What's to stop him doing that to us?

I’m sure its a bit of fan exaggeration. You know how it gets when a player could potentially leave.

For what it’s worth, most massively rate him and think he’s up with there with Larsson as the best Celtic striker of all time.

Agree, obviously we can only speculate as fans and have no idea as to if it's true or not, but shit attitudes like that are a big red flag for me.

Interesting comments. It’s clear not playing your star then downplaying it with vague comments such as these is textbook “unsettled player” situation, though I doubt this is due to our interest.

Well he would say that, wouldn’t he?

Maybe, but saying to his boss the day before the match he is not feeling up to it sounds a bit dodgy.

I'd be questioning his professionalism at the very least. The last thing we need is more half assed moody players.

Especially at 30-40m

He’ll move. To who? I do not know. Would love it to be us but we’ll have to pay alot of money as Celtic will likely want 25-30m for themselves so the fee will likely be 40-50m and we dont have the loan + option route to get around the sell on.

It’s no different than any player who’s ever tried to force a move. Bergwijn forced his way out of PSV and Lo Celso didn’t train with Betis after returning from Copa America last summer, but no one questions their commitment here at Spurs. Bale and Modric stood firm in their desire to move to Madrid and became two of their most decorated players ever.

I wish it weren’t so commonplace but players forcing their clubs’ hand on a transfer is basically standard operating procedure.

I know what you're saying and you're probably right, I just dislike it. It's tactics, but with those two examples (Bergwijn and lo celso) think the club's were looking to cash in rather than one sided.

Look at zaha, he wants to leave, he has made it clear but he has still given his all, if a player doesn't do that I wouldn't sign him, but I think I am in the minority.

Mourinho talks alot about mentality and I question quite a few of our players for this and I wouldn't risk anymore.

I’ve never really watched Edouard at Celtic but he does look like a cracking striker. Nice calm finishing, nothing fancy. Gets a lot of space in Scotland though so difficult to tell how he’ll fare but probably the best of the options we’ve been linked with.

Why would we not be able to repeat what we did when signing GLC from Betis? Or are PSG contractually entitled to their cut regardless of whether Celtic receives a loan fee or a transfer fee?

I think the point being made is that we currently have Gedson and Bale on loan

Bale - told Zidane he didn't want to be part of a Real Madrid squad away at City because he wouldn't get on. He held a flag up putting golf ahead of his club yet we still took him back, how a footballer acts at a former club has no bearing on what they will be like at another. They are human and it would be very easy to have their head turned when a bigger club comes in and potentially triples your wages and gives you a bigger stage to play on and the club you are at are potentially blocking it. Most people say to act professional however it's a 2 way street - when a club doesn't want a player, they will do everything they can to force the move such as training on own, no squad number etc (such as we are doing with rose) - that doesn't stop players signing for a club.

I think there'd be an element of succession planning for losing Kane if we signed Edouard which is not necessarily a bad thing. If we signed Weghorst I think he'd play well with Kane as well as being an able deputy who could possibly help us win something here and persuade Kane to stick around. Not sure how I want this to pan out but I do think Kane needs more competition for his place at this precise moment.
