Like others have said, I believe if we can choose between a top class centre back or a top class centre forward, I’d rather take the good Cb and I’d be happy with a cheaper striker. Obviously if we can only have one position though, striker is an absolute must.

Dias profiles athletically and physically very very similar to dier. Both a good height, both really good in the air, both very strong, both with good pace in a straight line, but both lacking a little bit in agility. Both very aggressive as well as good communicators. The difference is class on the ball and defensive ability and awareness. Dias’ long passing and passing in general is up there with Toby. He reads the game really well, but his preference is to try to win the ball on the front foot. He goes to ground a fair amount, but he is generally calculated and assured in the tackle. He wins the ball at a very good rate. He’s well worth the high price tag, especially considering he’s young (23?). Note, he has just come off of a *slightly* down/disappointing season compared to 18/19, but the whole Benfica squad struggled at times, a lot more than they historically have, as Porto took the domestic trophies. Still, a great young defender highly rated by the fans. I do think I’d rather a more athletic and pacy cb, someone more in line with Sanchez in terms of physical attributes, but there’s no way I’d say no to Dias. Top talent and top player. I’d take him in a heartbeat.

It seems to me that the deals we’ve done so far have been contingent on minimal up front payments with a long term payment structure.

Apparently Benfica need money, I don't know if that means they would need more upfront or just have the guarantee of it coming in. But with Mendes potentially involved on our side, you’d think we’d be in a decent position to work something out. Apparently the reason why the Jota (another Mendes client) deal came together so quickly for Liverpool was because Wolves were very flexible on payment structure.

No idea if that could be replicated with Benfica, but I think it’d be a prerequisite for this to even be a discussion.

United are bloody clueless from the boardroom to the touchline, they don’t worry me in any capacity.

They got very fortunate last season to catch a good run of form after the restart that corresponded with Leicester’s total collapse. They’ll achieve nothing with Woodward and Ole at the wheel.

I worry that their woeful display today will force them to splash some cash. If there's one thing they are good at, it's splurging money on panic signings.

Poch will be at United by Christmas, it'll be big trouble then.

I do like Dias but the defender I'd love to get partnered with Sanchez is Mattijs de Ligt

That ship has sailed, IMO. Just like De Jong. Would love, but would be shocked if they moved anytime soon.

To be fair, if they do somehow end up with Sancho and Dias by the end of this window, we should be a bit worried.
Should we? I cannot see Sancho going anywhere. He is happy and settled in Dortmund. In the Champions League, in the England squad (nailed on starter too), potential to win the Bundesliga. I'm really not afraid of United even if they did sign those two. My initial point was that we signed two players they supposedly were after. I'm not afraid if they come in at all.
