I don't think we're selling Dele.

If this is true and we're actually looking sign Skriniar or Dias, we'll need to clear out a currently occupied non-HG spot [Foyth has already been dropped from the squad]. If we have buyers, the fees we're quoting for Aurier and Foyth should get us around what we'd need to pay for one of them [my guess is around 40m]. If we sign Milik, we'll need another non-HG spot — and I think Gazzaniga could also be next the chopping block.

The sale of Rose & CCV as well as loans for Sess & Clarke will likely also be additional sources of funding for these acquisitions.

A lot of if’s there, and Aurier leaving seems to have gone quiet. Not sure we should even sell him really this window.

I agree, and it's personally why I don't see us bringing in a foreign CB this window. But if this does go through, I'm guessing we'll have found suitors for the mentioned players.

The problem with selling Dele is he raises the funds, but he doesn't clear a roster spot and he creates another need in the squad: another creative midfielder.

Signing one of our reported striker targets has sounded like it is independent of outgoings, while signing a new CB is.

Totally agree with you there and reasons why I don’t want us to sell him. I’m just speculating on how we’re most likely to facilitate possibly spending big on a CB and striker.

I might be too optimistic here but doesnt it make sense that club uses one of the most connected journalists to put out an article that they really like him but cant afford him at current price as part of negotiating tactic? Unsettle player with interest - citing specifically Jose loves him while telling the club that the price needs to come down.
That's exactly the kind of negotiating tactics big clubs have been using for years. Jose told the players they need to be ****s...maybe he told Levy the same.

I just watched his highlights reel, which as we all know is the best way to scout players and he has a bit of a Sergio Ramos about him.
So I am all for him signing up, Levy get it done

Jorge Jesus has also opened up the door to his departure during today's press conference. shocking for me, said it here before, never thought Benfica would let him go this season. still not official but this is the first time there's a reason to think it will materialize onto something.

If that's 60m + Otamendi you can see why. Benfica were only going to sell for a huge fee but if City are giving them a defender who should do well there I can see how his arm was twisted in letting him leave.

Like yourself, I never felt we would get close to buying him though.

and that;s the difference in being owned by a country, hope he flops. ****s!
Sadly he'll do well there and offers City some aggression to go with the more technical Ake and Lenglet.

I'm happy with Skriniar as I think he's just as decent as Dias, although maybe not as high ceiling and if a new coach wants to play a high line it could be an issue later.

But yeah, hard to compete with City

Interesting. May very well be true but could possible be a way to try and force Sevilla's hand with Kounde? Although the way it's breaking in Portugal, may very well be City have simply moved on and decided to go for Dias.

even with a CB going the other way I didn't think Benfica would budge. so either Benfica is struggling to move players out and/or the CL failure is taking it's toll on the finances and/or Jorge Jesus doesn't really fancy Dias (there are rumors/occurrences that satisfy this criteria).

but yea, seems out of the price range Spurs are willing to go.
