"It is a blow the doctors have to see. I hope it doesn't get complicated".

Luis Enrique just said this

Just had a look: "Reguilón we have to wait. It is nothing serious, it is a blow that the doctors have to see. I hope it does not get complicated," acknowledged Luis Enrique. Phew!

Thanks for adding that bit!! I already think he's a really important player for us.

The injury didn’t look too serious watching live. Something he might be sore from for a few days.

To be frank, he was having a poor game. A couple of rash challenges which led to Portugal having some fk’s in dangerous areas and a really poor clearance that he got bailed out on by a mistaken handball by Ronaldo.

He is going to be one of the best LB’s in the world. We have to win something. We have to make sure he plays alot. We have to shower him with love. Have to do all of it in the hopes he rejects Madrid when they inevitably come back in for him either summer 2021 or 2022.

I honestly don’t think Madrid will be back in for him so long as Zidane is coach for the next two years. Don’t think he was his kind of player. He’s also very attached to his veterans. So despite Marcelo being 32 I can see him and Mendy remaining as their options for the next couple years at least. He’s also let Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez leave the club without blinking an eye. The standards and expectations at Real Madrid are just on a different planet.

Headline says that he is a doubt for the Switzerland game (on Saturday). If it was a serious injury, he would be ruled out of the Switzerland game altogether.

"Golpe" is hit in Spanish so it's a collision injury - dead leg, bruising etc. - rather than muscle or ligament tear.

How the fuck is Marcelo only 32? My first memory of him predates that of my grandfather.

That was Roberto Carlos.

Marcelo made his Real debut in 2007. I'd seen him then but didn't know that was the beginning of his career. So it seems longer after 14 years.

Still, it's weird that Bale made his Spurs debut in the same year. It feels like the latter was much much later.

Though tbf Marcelo and Roberto Carlos look so much alike that they're impossible to tell apart. Especially the hair

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion they'll come back for him. They're hardly flushed with cash these days, and it's going to cost them £45 million to bring him back. That's £45 million they could put towards Mbappe, or whatever galactico it is they'll trying to sign in '21 and '22.

Maybe this is why they let us twist a bit with Skriniar. :cautious:
