Do not get carried away thinking there will be three or four signings in Jan it’s highly unlikely and pay attention to Angie comments that nothing revolutionary will happen in Jan

there will be a center half and as I have said and that right now is looking like the Romanian boy , if there are additional deals they will have to be very favorable terms for the club like jota loan with option to purchase next summer and the same with kelvin Philips

Not massively surprised, but why does he keep calling him Angie?! Presumed first time was a typo.

Anyway, I've no idea how happy or sad I am about this news until we know more about our injury situation.

Hopefully some players are closer to coming back than we thought. If they are, we'll be fine. If they're not, then not dipping into the window seems a massive gamble (again)...

🤞🤞🤞

it's really tough to get things done early in the January transfer window. it looks like they have been working on the CB for a while now and given the situation it is presumable that they won't be pinching pennies to get things done but that is and can never be the norm in a remotely sustainably run club.

that said, even if we were looking into reinforcing other positions, things would likely only materialize past January 20, perhaps 25 and that roughly coincides with the timeline of the returning international players and the critical injured players.

I agree. Typically, for us, it's awkward as fuck with the timings and a win at Brighton would have probably made everyone fairly chilled.

Hopefully we somehow manage to walk the tightrope, however.

Centre back is essential and seems close anyway, so grand. 🙏😎

That sounds really weak.
I imagine the players we want are not available until summer unless we overpay. Todibo, for example.

January is the window you only get opportunistic signings that genuniely fit or players you see as absolute pivotal for the remainder of the season, in this case a CB.

Just gotta hope all of Romero, VdV, Bentancur, Maddison and a new CB are playing by the end of next month.

Then it'll be a case of upgrading fringe players and adding competition.

Dragon info sounds very Tottenhamesque.

We have to go big on a centre back.

We don't need a cm or winger on paper, just cover, so free and loans are the sensible options.

I suspect the kalvin Phillips link is based on if PEH moves on this window. If he goes it may be because we have a decent offer and KP comes in as a stop gap until the summer.

Not bad business

This feels right. We don't need to panic buy half a squad in January. We have a number of starters returning probably 2nd half of the month and then the AFCON/Asia Cup lads back Feb, and a long term CB is the utmost priority. We seem to be on top of two deals, one more likely than the other. If we also take Jota on loan then that seems a no-lose option as well.

I'm calm and actually really don't want us to overpay for a stop-gap to cover two or three PL games.

As long as we get a centre back I'm fine with nothing else happening.

Really feel we need another player with good end product in the final third now, even if it’s just a loan.

We are wasting too many chances, and with our style of play always giving the opposition a chance, we need to be more ruthless.

Whilst understandable & sensible, the Jan market is notoriously difficult so bargains are likely to be hard to come by, we really need at least 3 bodies to give us a realistic chance of pushing for top 4 this season

Trying to be realistic I'm hoping for Dragusin + say Tosin (on assumption Dier goes) & Jota on loan with option

If we had money to burn then Gallagher would be great but I'm not convinced he represents a wise way to spend our limited funds altho if we shift PEH & Lo Celso it would be great to get a youngster in but otherwise once our crisis is over we're pretty stacked in midfield

Tbh if we sell Hojbjerg then replacing him with Gallagher makes sense

if we end up with jota, Gallagher and dragusin we’ve done well
We’d be stronger in all departments and then my only worry would be an injury to Pedro Porro, or vicario

CB is good but Philips seems more like a Mourinho type player, feels more like a loan stop gap. Obviously it’s all pinch of salt but after we sold Kane, Sanchez and probably Hojbjerg off hoped for a little more quality in that spot as we need it. No issue with Gallagher link, I know he is divisive but I can see why we are going for him, less so Philips.

When you consider his role in that free flowing Bielsa system and it attracted Pep, I don’t necessarily see him being a Mourinho like signing.

My bigger issue with Phillips would be fitness. I think he would do a decent job if he was fit. I would be surprised if we signed though.

Agree the Leeds Utd Phillips would do a hell of a job at 6. The question is with injuries and lack of playing time over past year or so, is Phillips fit and ready to play. If he is he’d be a smart move and massive upgrade on PEH and Skipp.

Loan with option to buy, what's the downside? If Phillips provides an effective shield for our high line defence, get him in. Good to hear we're moving quickly for a centre back as well and we're prepared to move on if a deal for our first target is proving difficult.

I saw it suggested City wanted 7.5m loan fee.

We're averaging 2 goals per game with Madders and Soloman back soon. Not to mention Richarlison lookd better post surgery. Another attacker will be welcome but its not crucial this window.

Agree that Maddison backs obviously helps our end product.

I know we are still scoring goals, but I think that’s simply down to Ange and the way he gets us to play.

I look at it from the perspective of how many more goals would we score with more efficient attacking players with more consistent end product….. and I think this has cost us this season as much as the soft goals and poor discipline.
