He’s young and of course you can’t write him off so early. But let’s be honest, he’s been a disappointment so far.
But surely that depends on your expectations. My take on it is from watching more closely and more often is that he's a better fit for what we are trying to do than I originally expected. I never expect players to be brilliant of the rip, if they are it's a bonus. Some will pick things up quicker than others and some never will but 6 months in is far too early to tell.

He looks to me like a player who's got the tools but who hasn't completely figured out what to do with them yet. That's where our coaches earn their money.

Fans seem to have given Ange a "free pass" this season, but not Johnson, very poor individual performances or lack of application then fair enough, criticism is valid, but the judgement of him compared to our coach seems very contradictory.

He's just been pushed into the spotlight with our injuries and suspensions. If Maddison was fit I doubt we'd have seen half as much of Johnson so far. He'd gain a lot more confidence coming off the bench and running at tired legs but we can't do that as things stand.

I think his football IQ isn't that high currently, or should I say I think he's playing by numbers and he lacks a bit of spontaneity which may well come in time, or a good pre season with a good coach and a potential lightbulb moment.

I thought I was very clear in saying you can’t write him off this early and putting “so far” at the end. He’s had PL experience and maybe my expectations are too high but I had hope for a little more from him and like all spurs players he has my support and I hope he comes good.

Two of Richarlison's last three goals are goals where Johnson has zipped toward the byline and fired in a low cross for him.

He has had a few poor games, maybe United especially, but fucking hell some arseholes have forced him to limit his instagram comments and are hounding him on Twitter and I absolutely cannot even begin to understand where they're coming from.

Have to wonder about the mentality of some of our fans really. Fucking cretins.

Such short termism on here its ridiculous, Richarlison is shit and then he's a world beater and after a game he's shit again.

Kulusevski is a world beater and then too slow and one footed and then a world beater once more.

Now it's Johnson, who has had a very promising start, yet one bad game away to United and suddenly the usual crowd come out.

We need to remember that he's adapting to Spurs, London etc...

He's not had the chance to adapt yet, he's had one loan at Lincoln and apart from that he's been at Forest. It takes time.

What I've seen from him so far as been very promising, his control is immaculate, his touch is very good and his finishing and decisions has also looked calm and controlled if unlucky. His pace threatens without being as effective as it could be.

He has all the attributes to be an absoloute star with us. But it takes time, we've been spoilt by players coming in an bossing it (but not always).

Bissouma and Richarlison have taken a season to settle in, other players have hit the ground running.

I was very critical of Porro early doors with his defensive abilities and he has been generally excellent this season. My reason (him being a defender) I thought was a valid one, but he was adapting and he has learned. Order tha Johnson as well, who is still just 22.

We could talk about Emerson as well, who took a while before showing how good he is.

The United game was disappointing, but I still see the talent there (in bundles). If he's still playing at this level in a year then perhaps we have to start asking questions, but after one poor game, it's silly. So far a very promising signing.

As a side note, if I was a winger, I'd 100 percent rather be up against Dalot (poor defensively in my book) than AWB who is one of the best man markers around.

Watched the vid of him rating other players outfits. Seems like a really good lad. Smart, humble and funny. Wish him the best. Needs a bit of coaching work to be more clinical but has the fundamentals to be a success here.

Is the correct answer.

Far too early to write Johnson off. He has played far more than envisaged due to necessity.

That’s so true…I refuse to criticise Brennan. I see a lot of quality there. He needs time. Personally think he’s better on the left than right

I’ve said it before but I don’t see people writing him off - I don’t know why people keep saying this.

I think he has good potential, but probably doesn’t get it out first XI at this point. Which is fine, but this whole ‘our fans are shit, no point observing areas he can improve’ is bizarre

Because people are just being overly critical (nit picky) too early with him.

You can feel an unecessary cloud building over him aleedy.

Just give the lad some time.

No one is writing him off, but you can feel the knives sharpening....put it like that.

Some people can only look at the price tag, and if the performances don’t match that then they go directly to “he’s shit”

I’d love for Ange to come out and say something about these idiots - attacking a young player in his first season, it’s not on.

He does come across as smart, intelligent and humble lad. I think what most fans are frustrated by is his timid nature shown on the pitch. He seems to be playing within himself. There maybe a lack of self belief, but to abuse him on social media is not going to help him with his lack of confidence.

I'm not on any social media so have no idea what's being said. I can only judge what's being said on here and I've seen nothing bad at all (again, just on this forum)

People seem split in their opinion of Johnson which is totally fine. The problem is, like with many other topics in life that divide opinion, so many people take issue with opinions that don't match theirs.

So far, I don't particularly rate Johnson. I think he's like a rabbit in the headlights. Very similar to Sessegnon in that regard. Now he might come good but in my opinion I don't see a good, technical, intelligent footballer in there.

However, there's plenty on here who have said they think he'll be a 'star' for us. Whilst I couldn't disagree more, I completely respect that view and also acknowledge that those views may turn out right and my opinion may turn out wrong.

I suppose the long winded point I'm trying to make is it's completely fine as fans of the same team to have different opinions.

Which is all fine.

I think the most important factor here is its just too early to have a strong opinion formed one way another.

He's a young player who has a got a big move, and lets see how he develops under Ange.

I think he's talented and will produce consistently given time when his confidence grows.
