Surely it still doesn't mean much if he's made his mind up about going to Brentford because of playing time

The best we can hope for now IMO is for him to stay in Belgium and do really well so that he is more assured of game time next season, while paying a somewhat higher fee than this window.

Be funny if that offer was completely fabricated by Brugge to try and get better offers from other teams. Stretch I know but something just doesn’t sit right about this deal.

So much of this deal, and the way it appears to have developed, makes zero sense. The quoted fee and sell-on is way too high, and if you are the player, why would you sign your future away to Brentford in January (with a loan back) instead of waiting to the end of the season. Has someone at the Brugge end been briefing nonsense and overplayed their hand? Everyone running away now?

How many CL minutes had Sarr played?

Anyone who watched his Norway debut could see he was a player. Including Haaland.

And if you don't want to take my word for it, Ange and the scouting structure identified him as one to go for.

Paratici has been putting in the ground work in the way he does for special talent.

Again it's not a total disaster, we're capable of getting someone good eventually, but it's a big miss.

Getting someone better will be much much more expensive imo.
In fairness, Haaland can see everything, given his height.

(post edit - @CorlukaModric and @Hertsspur10 - uh, you get I’m being facetious, yes? Not serious!)

I'm sure a lot of the people whinging that we didn't throw more money at Nusa are the same people saying we spent too much on Johnson...someone with considerably more experience.

Levy has earned his reputation for messing up transfer windows but this doesn't fall into this category and also comes off the back of a reasonable summer window and two good signings in January.

These complaints are clearly coming from people who will somehow find an issue with Levy even if we win the league.
Boom. Moosed.

I know absolutely nothing about this kid, I’ve never seen a match he has played in. Two weeks ago I didn’t know he existed but I’ve really taken my eye off European football particularly lower tier European league football. Is he worth £30m? Is he better than Bryan Gil who performs well in a top three European league, do we think?

105 pages of various opinions should give you the answer. 😜

I think we've done the right thing.

He's potential....and we had a valuation and have walked away.

I commend Levy and the recruitmemt team for that.

No more haggling for weeks on end trying to conclude on unrealistic terms.

Just move on. Good stuff.

If the situation changes and the financials make sense from our end then we revisit.

Sounds like Brugge getting greedy.
Could be another Gift Orban scenario.
Hope Brentford pull out and we don't go back in for him.

He only made his mind up with the team who agreed a deal for him. No doubt any team from a top league who agrees a deal he will likely sign for.

I won't say too much, we did lose to Brentford earlier this season, but they don't strike me as a smaller club on the up. Wolves, Bournemouth, and Brighton seem much better locations to land if you're looking for a PL. move with the chance to play/improve.

Not to pass judgment on any club, but if your mentality is "I want PL and a club where I can play," not all small clubs are created equally.
