It depends how desperate they are to avoid the FFP penalty. If they were willing to sell Reece James to someone like PSG for a discounted but decent fee then all of a sudden they've only got to sell a couple more players to be ok.

If it was any other club I'd say they were screwed, but they seem to land on their feet every time. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go the Barca route of selling future TV rights either.

This was precisely how Leeds fell apart. Selling future revenues then missing out on CL.

Barca negotiate their own TV contracts independently I believe.

Chelsea's centralised PL revenues are conditional on being in the PL, and most investors would look at that and say "if your TV money barely covers your wage bill then how are you going to have either the cash or FFP room to buy players and ensure PL survival?"

They will have a new £105m , but the other issue is because they've amortised sales over 6-8 years, and leveraged that allowance to the max, it will take a long long time for the burden of these annual write downs to be off their books.

in other words, even after this cycle they'll could still have no wiggle room to buy players.

Wha happens if they continue to miss out on Europe?

When do their sponsorships come up for renewal?

What are their star players saying about not playing Europe for 3 seasons on the trot?

Which top tier coach after Poch is going to have this on their CV?

There is no easy fix here. They assumed CL revenue was a given and didn't budget for falling short.

yeah its a soft cap, you breach it and you get fined/lose draft picks, thing is with baseball and their scouting they find gems in the later rounds and develop them into stars along with nabbing up a lot of foreign players at 16 from the DR and other countries.
And also moneyball, which works in sports like baseball, "he always gets on base"! 😂

Tbh I think they’ll do it. Or they sell Colwill and Gallagher and then they pretty much there no?
I agree this can be done, but they’ll only have until the end of June to get both deals done and only clubs which themselves aren’t skirting the edges of FFP this season will be able to buy either of them. Those two players aren’t going to agree moves to any team and will both be looking for CL football IMO. That really only then means us, Liverpool or City as possible destinations. Clubs abroad are more skint and are not going to pay a HG premium.

It does feel like they’ve been pushing Connor Gallagher, and other candy players outdoor, by not offering contracts. Bizarre way to run a football club

Yeah and now Gallagher holds all the cards.

Either they agree a reasonable fee with a club that Gallagher wants to go in the summer or he goes for free 12 months later.

If Beohly and Co had been patient and delayed spending their money, they’d now be in a position to absolutely clean up given how FFP restrictions have led to a general reduction in transfer market valuations.

Sweet isn’t it?

As much as I love the prospect of a Chelsea FFP-meltdown, I fear their Saudi sponsors will organise another bailout.
Last year they flogged several surplus players like Koulibali, Mendy and Kanté for vastly inflated transfer fees. What's to stop them selling 10 random substandard youth players at 10m apiece to the Saudi pro league?

I'm not sure if it's so much a reduction in market valuations as it is...this is just the market without Chelsea in it who are usually available to spend 40-100m on literally every player they sign, pumping the prices for everyone else. Or even without the PL clubs in it in general pumping the prices. We've only got to this mental situation where to buy top players costs 60m+ every time because of the shit they and their doped up mates have done, and it's crippled European football in trying to keep up. Hopefully this is all a reversion to the mean to some extent.

The ages of the players you mentioned are 32, 31 & 32.

It has happened that younger players go there but it is still heavily tilted towards players at the end of their career.

The players have to want to go there. I could see Lukaku going for sure, but going home grown player, throwing their careers down the toilet? Nah.

Kante went on a free and the other two went for 40m euro combined.

Yep. Mendy was the only one they would have made profit on and even he was sold for less than he was bought for. They sold koulibaly at a 15m loss after one season

The Premier League teams are meeting to discuss changes to the profit and sustainability rules.

Have a horrible feeling they will make changes and it will save Chelsea from proper punishment.

I expect they’re all getting nervous they won’t make it.

They spent similar amount on Nunez. Palmer is HG and proven in the league. Someone will have to replace some of Salah's contributions when he leaves.
Nunez was 75m Euros (65m pounds), which is quite a way short of 90m. Liverpool are also fine from a HG perspective, so don't need to overpay.
